  • Nathalie Emmanuel Struggled With Diversity In Her Acting Career After Landing Game Of Thrones Role as Missandei.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nathalie Emmanuel joined the cast of the Game of Thrones in season 3 and her character Missandei was a breath of fresh air. Not just for the viewers, but also for Daenerys, who appreciated her loyalty as much as the rest of us. But being on Game of Thrones made Nathalie realize that Hollywood TV shows and movies still struggle to accept an important topic into their storylines - diversity. In her interviews, Nathalie revealed how she struggled with diversity and representation throughout her career and was almost ready to leave the acting life all together. But it looks like Game of Thrones opened doors to other exciting projects such as Mindy Kaling’s modern adaptation of Four Weddings, as well as many others.
Keep on watching to find out what Nathalie has to say on the subject of diversity in Hollywood and how her own comments are supported by important movements that highlight the big issue.

I don't know why people are so obsessed with representation in Gow. The continent of Westeros is supposed to represent Medieval Europe, which was made up of mostly white people. So the mostly white cast makes a lot of sense.

While I certainly agree that there needs to be much more diversity in Hollywood, the issues with GoT are NOT on the part of the writers/directors. GoT is based upon a book series. A book series that outlines character descriptions in minute detail. Even minor characters who are seen for a single chapter are given excruciating monologues on their appearance. And, given that the GoT-verse is based largely upon Britain, they tend to be Anglo-Saxon based. The series stuck to the source material.
Anytime a region of the GoT-verse allowed for a group to be cast as anything other than Anglo-Saxon, it was. Look at the Dothraki, the Dornish, anyone from the Slaver's Bay region. They are all cast from other races, because the books describe them that way. Dornish are described as having one of three different appearances, depending on which region of Dorne someone is from.
And while I have to say that Nathalie was amazing in the role of Missandei, and I cannot imagine anyone else having played the part, don't forget that she's actually not the race that the character is described as being. The character is specifically written as a young girl with Asian features, like all those from Naath.

The writers, David and Dan, are misogynistic, xenophobic men who underrepresented many people. The Dornish were more Palestinian than Spanish/Hispanic (though its like a mix) and the way Missandei died was shock value and lacked emotion other than to anger and further depress Daenerys. We only meet Missandei in season 3 because Missandei in the books comes in around book 3 or 4. Because of the failure and disappointment of HBO's Game of Thrones, only the books are canon. Which means MISSANDEI IS ALIVE AND D&D CAN SUCK CACTUS. ✌️

Saying I can not tell my story is just as damaging!
So if I made a movie about the civil war in America do you honestly think Id do it justice?
If you want more diversity then more writers need to get the chip off there shoulders stop doing what they should and start showing who they are. So many people won't even try because they think it's stacked against them.... so fucking what?! DO YOU WANT IT OR NOT? ask yourselves that and understand the answer what it truly means... you will have to work hard and even then some people won't like you..... THATS LIFE. YOU CAN NOT CHANGE OTHER PEOPLE IT IS A WASTE OF TIME TRYING especially in just one lifetime if someone is racist then report them don't sit there and expect them to stop. If you chose to fill your lives with low-quality people like racists you are asking for low-quality life bitching about spilt milk that over 100 years old is not getting anything done its just keeping things the same. DIFFERENT IS GOOD DIFFERENT IS WHAT MAKES LIFE GREAT. If someone tells you can't wear your hair in a certain way then you listen who is to blame if your boss tries to fire you take all his shit in court if you live in a state where you don't have rights in the workplace YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG. You and only you can stand up for you effectively asking someone else to fix a problem you don't want to is asking for shitty results. Yes I understand we shouldn't have too but straight up life is and will always have things we don't like fucking teenagers
DONT ASK FOR PERMISSION UNLESS YOUR IN A SITUATION INVOLVING CONSENT that's time we could be using to get what we want... being nice to the world the medieval world has taught our species and the genders but nice honestly fake if you have to try to be nice your forcing it so why not try just being nice when you feel like it
