  • Hi Everyone!
Today we're taking a quick look at Roon. This is a great piece of software that does an excellent job of integrating your local music and streaming music from TIDAL. Browsing is seamless and it's like flicking through all of your artist info and artwork from one place.
It's also one of the best tools we've found for discovering new music.
If you'd like a hands on demo of Roon, just drop into one of our stores and we'll be happy to show you more.

A very clear and though over view explanation of a complex music data base system. Wow . . . lots to take in but a second viewing will clarify this a little more. Thanks for this video - well dane!

I'm still struggling to see why I need this over something like Jriver for my DSD library. I completely get it combines it all and looks pretty. I would be interested if it was free, especially when we are already paying a subscription to Tidal etc. Either way, thank you for the excellent explanation.
Edit* Just saw a comment you made about not needing a subscription. Thank you again!

Great video! Quick question, are you using an iPad or iPad Pro and who makes the stand you are using?

So I pay for Tidal then I pay also monthly for Roon to listen to Tidal?

Roon is a database and browsing system so yes it has its own subscription fee but it is not required if all you want to do is listen to tidal. You can just use the Tidal app or the native app of whatever streamer you have.

@@SoundlineAudioNewZealand Does it work backwards? Meaning that whatever I add to my collection or favourites in Tidal app on my phone is instantly reflected in the Roon library? Thanks!

Great video. Do you find the discovery feature to be better than stock Tidal app radio? Also, about sound quality, do you find it better than the stock Tidal? Thanks

Personally I don't get the HYPE. I guess having my ripped music on a nice app is handy but otherwise meh! I listen to Apple Lossless atm and love the simplicity especially the cost

So basically it "solves" a lot of nonissues and not really helps with the missing part of the industry. Instead brands making their own web interface, now you need another PC to act as roon server just to do the same freaking job as a web interface. Imagine Toshiba or Xerox saying they will cut out the web interface from their devices, and you need a separate server to act as a web interface. the level of idiocy of the concept alone is off the charts. Can I play my DSD files from a SSD attached to my DAC? Not really, because roon needs to see my files, because between my 8GB song, with a 3000$ dac, all I can ask for is a 2-300$ router and 30m of UTP cable to act as a freaking antena for all the noise. Freaking great, when all I needed was a web interface via wireless.

@@Foxhunter_DE Roon itself is not the issue, nor their overpriced license (it nears windows server and that thing is hugely more complex). The issue is the lack of players that can play DSD 512/PCM 768 out of a USB/SD storage, and all manufacturers are singing "you can use Roon" song. Well, how about your hi-end 3000 Euro product can actually play hi-end file without me using a 700$ web interface with 500$ server via a 50m antena. And just so you know, the reason why I don't use roon on the same pc is because PC SUCK FOR AUDIO. How hard is that to understand?
