It was painful watching Justin never using Gyome's ability to tap down opponent's creatures at beginning of combat to avoid all of that Breena commander damage.
We need more editor bits like the meteor golem bit when the opportunity arises.
Everyone else, “look at these new cards.”
John, “I think this deck is neat, let’s play.”
Had me cracking up.
42:20 to add to Justin's point: "2020-04-17: If an effect, such as that of Parallel Lives, causes Zaxara’s ability to create multiple Hydra tokens, they each receive X +1/+1 counters."
I don't understand how people get this confused. It's a replacement effect so just read the ability again but with "two" instead of "a"/"one".... it's that easy haha
Director Double D coming in with more editing work than Director Kyle ever did in the last ten seasons!
Not only did Stephen cheat in the Duelist, but he never drew his card for the turn several times.
yeah that was painful to watch. Stephen giving each other player cards and forgetting his own draw :/
once I saw it, I come to the comment area see if someone found it or not
Wow, I reeeeeaaally like how Breena plays out! Card definitely takes a few times of reading to understand, but it seems so cool.
Just wish I saw them attacking two of stephan opponents for two seperate triggers
I've officially caught up to the first episode I ever watched of you guys. I've binged and I need to keep binging to get current.
this game definitely changed my mind about the Silverquill deck. wasnt impressed when it was revealed, looks alot better seeing it in action.
It performed as well in the LoadingReadyRun video too.
Never understimate a good old politics and deincentivation deck. Might look small, but the increments mean loads in the long run
Justin "You could have made a friend in me, but you spit in my face" Im dying!
Justin could have tapped Stephen‘s Commander with Gyome‘s ability to stay in the game, couldn‘t he?
Gyome is MVP of this game. That card lived up to its name as a Master Chef.
Gyome does say "Tap it" right?
@@austinbishop5230 yeah im like 100% sure if Justin read the entire card, he could've either killed stephen or at least denied him from ever attacking with his commander again, but thats what happens with new cards. Ironic though, Justin dying to Stephen of all ppl, by not reading his own cards
Breena was definitely the MVP of this game, it wasnt even close.
@@MatthewCJoy no, what she did was cute but that's it.
Justin is right about doubling the fractals as per a Zaxara ruling
I literally bought the simic commander deck to remove the commander and put it in my Zax deck. I also put Vorel of the hul clad as the new commander of the strix simic deck.
Pretty sweet decks! Led to a cool game. My opinion on Breena has been proven wrong. That's super aggressive. Did not expect it to get that big that consistently.
1:31:35 "Wow John he's just going to keep building board presence, attack him now!" and then SECONDS later "Wow John I'm thinking you should have waited till later to attack him..." I actually rolled laughing.
I'm just glad to see Stephen finally looking like he's feeling better.
Easish way to remember Breena.
If you attack someone who isn't Breena's controller and isn't the lowest life of Breena's controller's opponents, it triggers.
Remember, not Breena and not lowest life = trigger
Could it trigger twice if both opponents had more life than you?
@@lobokuster3234 yes
@@RogueHippie13 nice
Did Justin forget he could use his chef guy to tap Stephen's bird commander?
I couldn't stop thinking about it once I realized. Would have completely changed the game.
A minor correction. Monologue Tax can give its controller up to 3 treasures per turn in a 4 player commander game as it counts each opponent's 2nd spell and not just he 2nd spell cast by an opponent. Such a situation is quite unlikely to happen given how quickly your opponents would need to go through cards for it to apply, but it is technically possible.
Great episode guys! Really enjoyed seeing all the new decks. #Team Green. Hand Adjacent!
Kudos to Jeremy for breaking down stephens commander!
That Silverquill deck did work through out! Stephen played it well. Also Jon now has 2 commander precon wins tying Stephen. Precon wins so far have been:
Justin: C2014, 2015 C2018
Jon: C2016, C2021
Stephen: C2017, C2020
Jeremy: C2019
I can't wait to see Osgir in action! I absolutely love the direction that wizards is taking RW. Hopefully they also make a video with upgraded versions.
Very nice episode the only thing i noticed is with stiniging study played ba Stephen. I think he shoudl have lost some life and drew some cards. I know he plyed it as a black spell for the Liege-thingy to trigger, but the effect of Stinign Study would still happen, right? Ah so he did not loose the life but drew 3 cards. maybe with 3 life less Jon might have attack a round early. Would not change the outcoem I guess :) nice game
Thanks for showing off that bird warlock I know who I'm playing
I have been thinking "tap gyome and tap breena down" this whole game.
Yeah it would make breena indistructable but damn she got big.
Still fun game play and I always like seeing you guys play the precons.
Man I can't wait for them to be back playing in person.
Yeah its a big difference in quality when its over cams
Are they all really that afraid of the virus still? If they can't even live normally, I think they should spend less time playing with toys and more time living in reality.
I don't know how they arent all vaccinated yet.
Funny enough, during Tragic Arrogance Stephen could have chosen Ancient Den as the artifact on Jon's board (plus Steel Overseer). He would not have to sac the land, but it would leave him with one less creature.
He could have also just picked steel overseer for both artefact and creature
Justin, Justin, Justin. You missed the line. You MISSED the LINE. You could have kept Breena tapped down with Gyome for quite some time and been very safe. I need more from you! I expect more from #TeamParnell You're better than this :P
Oh my...it taps the creature that it gives indestructible to!
While everyone else has had longer to evaluate the new cards, the Witherbloom deck had not been revealed yet when we recorded this episode, so I was really reading everything for the first time when I played the deck.
@@JParnell1 no worries man! I'm still team blue! I know it was super easy to miss, I just know you could have won that game if you had seen it because Stephens Commander was the only thing threatening you.
Either way, I look forward to the upgraded Witherbloom deck in the future! ❤️
Justin is like, "Death doesn't phase me. Do what you will."
I seriously underestimated Breena
How about feeding a food to Stephen's commander to tap it before it attacks?
Oh damn, I totally missed it can target any creature.
See that is reading the card in its entirety and that is not allowed on commander vs
@@nobodystaco7366 And that's precisely why we love this show 😉
THIS.
Listen, ya'll quit picking on Stephen. y'all know that poor man gets confused whenever a card has more than four words on it.
Which is a big problem with all these wordy cards in strixhaven 😏
It’s what makes him so relatable
The precons are super cool and look really balanced!!!
The was a lot of damage missed from keen duelist. So sad, poor Stephen
Normally dedicated #TeamGreen but as a student of Witherbloom I have to go with #TeamParnell today.
I freaking love it instead of asking to pay 2 you asked to play another spell got to love it
I feel like John's deck would have been mega OP if it weren't a precon.
They almost always are
I dont know I feel he could have done alot more but he seemed to never use his commander
I cant believe Stephen didnt win. Feels like he couldve like when he destroyed all creatures instead of attacking with his 17/20 flying commander
Not to mention he could have brought his dragon back and wiped the board again then he could have done it again with the titan
@@dakkenblah1450 you have to cast it from the hand for that effect to work.
That Tireless Pilgrim shirt is dope, where you get it!?
You can find those here: www.coalesceapparel.shop/collections/tireless-pilgrim
Use gift code 'SCG' for 10% off! :)
Missed trigger on Jeremy's attack at @57:50. John did have more life than Justin. :-)
for fractal harness he wouldnt get a second token because the harness has to be attached to the fractle so... right?
Dang, those intro pics!
Finally Skyrim's Gourmet has entered Skyrim as Gyome :p
So i see Jeremy is wearing the best shirt ever seen on this show.
I already wanted to build Gordon Ramsay but after this I am totally building it 😊
I play Oath of lieges! I bought 5 copies! i am single-handedly affecting the market! Jokes aside, its actually a lot better than it reads and i am getting very excited for white being pushed into other areas.
33:25 Never thought I'd see the day Justin was wrong about a black card, but there it is.
Also, editor should have used the Hangover math sequence as an overlay for Justin and Jon every time they tried to over-complicate a simple card
Osgir FTW! Love it!
Gyome could have tapped breena if justin was not greedy with the food tokens
Stephen Green, you had the game, but I can respect the reason why you did what you did.
At around 57 min shouldn't Jeremy have drawn a card for attacking John since he had more life than Justin and Steven get 2 more +1/+1 counters?
All I’m saying, is we need a Return to Alara.
More 3-4 color love.
The chances of that are slim to Nephilim.
It's not out of the question though, it's actually a 5 on the Rabiah Scale:
markrosewater.tumblr.com/post/622891015756529664/alara-on-the-rabiah-scale
Gyome can tap opposing creatures in the combat step so Justin could have saved Jeremy by making Stephen's commander indestructible, right?
Come on Stephen... I JUST started watching the episode ;-;
Jon, I absolutely love that you are getting japanese Erratic Explosions. I love that combo so much
How did Stephen play his turn 2? He didn't have black mana.
How star city vs. can’t use the Strixhaven cards but they can?
Jon never figured out that the Bracers also gives haste...
Great game
what kind of cameras do you guys use?
15:20 ish Keen Duelist wasn’t possible to cast, opal palace needs to tap 1 to produce any color and Stephen didn’t have black. (He only had a plains and opal palace)
Does Stephen know that his comander works for him too if he attacks the player with the highest life he draws a card
The white card that Justin disagreed would be good says “when it enters the battlefield” so you get the effect immediately opposed to the card he suggested. So, I respectfully disagree because the new card doesn’t have to be in play for a full rotation, unlike the enchantment no one plays. Justin will come around for sure though😉
The fellas are here. #teamgreen
I'm confused. Couldn't Justin sack a food token and tap Stephen commander?
52:50
Shouldn't Jonathan have sacrificed his artifact land as well to Tragic Arrogance?
Tragic arrogance specifically says sacrifice nonlands
Aw man. I'm, so sad that Justin didn't realize that he could tap down Breena with Gyome. If he knew that he could have kept up a lot of his mana and food. Gyome is definitely my next deck.
Not sure if it was already mentioned but Justin could have used the Chef's ability to tap other player's ability and would have most likely stayed in the game.
No prismari. Sadness, but lorehold in the house!
Good Design on Breena wizards. An hour of this gameplay is 4 mtg content creator veterans that can't figure out how the card works.
40:46 I'm pretty sure they did this wrong. What Jeremy said was right: the first sentence makes him create two 0/0 Fractals, and then the second says makes him put 4 +1/+1's on the Harness-ed Fractal. That's the reason they are separate sentences
You each lose life equal to the mana value of the card revealed by the other player. You each put the card you revealed into your hand. :P
Stephen forgets about Opal Palace and his Commander
that win jon way to goo.
It was hard watching stephan make himself a target instead of sharing out his (+1+1)s and Justin couldn't at any time tapped down stephans commander😅
I need to know where Jeremy got that shirt
Jeremy tends to get beat up early cuz he likes ramp so much. Hornet's nest should be in more of his decks.
nice and funny game^^ btw, keen dualist lose life to both of the players
And Cursed Mirror doesnt trigger etb
Ancient Den (Jon's land) was not sacrificed when Stephen cast Tragic Arrogance.
I think they got the barfing theme from greed
Im so excited about the food commander, not getting one from Throne was a tragedy
Deck techs - 3:22
Game begins - 13:46
Doesn't the liege only destroy tapped creatures? @1:40:00
Yep, but a white spell taps it, and since he cast a spell that is both white and black, he first taps it, then destroys it.
@@johnrickerson6287 I missed that!
Did we ever find out why Stephen is wearing that neck brace? I would assume Suarez mushroom slapped him so hard it gave him whiplash.
I SWEAR Breena is NOT that frickin’ hard to understand. Ever since the card was spoiled I’ve watched people make it more complicated than it is. It’s basic reading comprehension.
it IS worded super obtusely...but I'm used to that from 25 years of magic.
I disagree, the wording could be better. Saying people shouldn't find it hard to understand ignores both the reality of the situation and that they don't have the text in front of them at will.
The best way to explain Breena is "don't attack the guy with the lowest life"
@@enricomassignani Agreed and I understand the card, but the first time I read it I thought "Am I Dyslexic?". If I'm having that reaction, at all, it is a poorly worded card.
@@lracseroom8286 i had the same reaction lol
Justin could've been preventing that damage the whole game by tapping down Breena
Wow! Really didn't take long for me to get fed up with Stephen never reading his cards in this episode.
I’m pretty sad that John isn’t representing Prismari
So far I like the set but the precons seem a little lackluster. (Per precon norm).
Edit: Jeremy looked a little stoned nodding to hellkite tyrant.
I am SO confused at Justins play the entire game. He could have saved himself from Stephen’s commander in so many different ways.
While everyone else has had longer to evaluate the new cards, the Witherbloom deck had not been revealed yet when we recorded this episode, so I was really reading everything for the first time when I played the deck.
@@JParnell1 Well done then, I was confused why you didn't consider tapping down Stephen's commander with Gyomes ability :)
Jermmey never took the 6 damage from the hornets
Miss the studio version...
I love allot of the new cards bu when stephen cast tragic arrogance john forgot to sacrifice his artifact land.
Nope, it only affects nonland permanents. If I'm not mistaken the artifact lands are still lands.
Not gonna lie. Looking at the Silverquill deck from an outside perspective, I thought it was extremely bad. I now realize the deck is weak to compensate for the Commander being an absolute house.
Breena reminds me of Araumi of the Dead Tide in that they both can put serious work in when it's a four player game but once the field narrows they lose steam. Very cool balance!
Missed attack trigger @57:45
Jon's ancient den should have been destroyed when Stephen casted the choose different card types board wipe. It's an artifact that wasn't chosen :)
Sacrifice all other NON-LAND
@@jameslawson790 oh, I didnt know that. I know some cards are similar but lands gets sacced also
It's been a while since I've tuned in, what happened to Stephen's neck?
Wait, Jeremy has a beard now?
