    The problem in this video is not an issue in iOS 17. There's a function called Preserve Settings in the Camera settings.

    Enjoy the channel and thanks for this review. Agree on the overexposure issue - I have mine locked in at -0.7 exp as the baseline and set it to preserve that exposure setting always, so that I can do a little less dragging down for each shot.

    Brilliant video and have subscribed - just an amateur photographer but old enough (ancient enough) that I started on box brownies and have now moved from Apple 12PM to the 15PM! I'm an engineer and my tip is to always open up the settings area on your new phone and read enough/view enough videos to understand what each setting does. That has worked for me until I saw this video and realised that there is a LOT more to learn - thank you for starting me on a whole new journey (presets here I come).

    Spot on analysis of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, great video and super images, thank you. I upgraded from the 12PM to the 15PM because of the unique way Apple have allowed you as the photographer to make use of the main sensor with native 24mm, plus crops at 28,35 and 50mm. The crop files are really usable, especially from PRORAW images. Apple is doing something very clever to produce 24 megapixel images that retain detail. I have experimented with each crop blown up to 100% and the detail is amazing at 28, 35 but falls off at 50mm where the image is back to 12MP. The 5x 120mm is really useful but shows the limit of the 12MP sensor when there is smaller subjects in the frame. If you fill the frame I have found the image looks much better. If Apple adds an improved / larger tele lens sensor in the iPhone 16, they will be producing a phone that could replace my full frame cameras in many scenarios.

    Apologies for the off-topic question...but I really like that vertical LED light over your left shoulder, may I please ask the brand/model? As for the video, thank you for helping rationalize the cost of my pro max, I love photography, but just on the iPhone. Its odd, but it just goes a long way to over pay for a phone and not having to upgrade cameras, too. BTW, my first vid, and subscribed...and your talking to all the photographers in a wide spectrum of experience and application is appreciated. Translated, that means I'm 10 mins outta a Kodak 110! 🤣

    Hey Evan, love your work. Need some help with starting a CZcams channel - primarily lighting. Could you do breakdown videos on cinematic lighting used by CZcamsrs? I’m thinking Oliur, life of Riza, Peter McKinnon, other photographer CZcamsrs? And just basic lighting techniques?

    • @RanftEvan
      @RanftEvan  Před 6 měsíci

      It’s pretty easy really, most CZcamsr just use an apature 120d with a large diffuser. It spreads out the light nicely and looks professional. Key lights on the back to help separate you from the background are good too. Something like a window or in my case I sometimes use the colored lights

    I loved your take about the pro max! Did you feel you used the 5x telephoto alot ? or did you prefer taking photos with the other lenses more ? I am thorn between getting the pro vs pro max, specially knowing that you will be losing the 77mm (3x) zoom with the pro max. Also the quality difference of photo taken at the 3x between the the pro vs pro max is huge compared to that of 5x. Would love to hear your take about this matter as a photographer.

    Curious about the improvements from the 13 (what I have) to 15. I have found my self using my phone more for low angles than anything else. It sometimes s better simply because of the size of the phone v the size of the camera.

    • @funkam0nkey
      @funkam0nkey Před 6 měsíci

      If you mean the Pro or Pro Max, the there’s the higher res raw images with 24mp files available. Add in the different focal lengths and the 5 x zoom on the Max. I also find the colours more accurate on the new main sensor.

    • @RanftEvan
      @RanftEvan  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I never upgraded from the 13 to 14 as my daily phone. So I am very familiar, I’d say this is a big step up. I never really used raw on my 13 pro but with the 15 I find myself using it a lot more because the quality feels more relatable. The 14 compared to the 15 however I wouldn’t say is a big enough difference to upgrade. In my opinion

  • @michaelbell75
    @michaelbell75 Před 6 měsíci +1

    Thanks. but the main problem with your "problem" section is user error. You are using the default camera app which is the same as using your DSLR/mirrorless camera in Auto mode. I doubt you shoot in Auto mode, so why would you do it with your iPhone? Use an app like Halide which gives you full manual controls, focus peaking, focus assist, depth mode and lots of other useful tools. No professional photographer should be using the default camera app on their iPhone unless they are just taking random snapshots.

    As you said, "it's for masses". Physics is physics. Apple is good at marketing. Who got a real camera, knows what's going on, and will never compare a phone sensor to the bigger sensors. Phones reaches the limit. 1" is the max they can put to the phone, and then.. It's the end. There will never be a M43 sensor in the phone. So they need to play around 1" with interchangeable lenses made for phones. I think THEY PLAN to do that but... It's not gonna be so soon because they will ruin a phone market instantly with that move. Coming to beggining "masses" would play around the first manufacturer who will release 1" sensor with mount for phone lenses. There is a reason why Xiaomi stopped this process.
