I always do the terrain leveling before I set up a structure within the village. Learned the hard way that running arround ground slopes slows you AND the workers. So for workshop or warehouse I did order 3 levelings 5x5 (with one row starting on previous cleard ground) to have more or less even space...
Off course this works best if you start building from highest point in the area ...
Friends have a mp game where the hut roof is below ground level of original hillside. They dug in so deep into the hill...
yeah that is quite a bit of terraforming. but if im trying to keep my sanity and get through putting out guide vids i cant spend too many in game days doing this. wish i could change the time scale
A small side note for adventuring and in general. I noticed that even before you have iron, using the Coal Maker is fairly useful as (char)coal is more effective for fire fuel and also stacks to five as a small item, comapred to a medium sized fire wood. Of course it all depends on what other items you are carrying but it is generally useful :)

True but i wonder if the villager User coal also to lighting the houses? Or are they prepare to use wood?
@@MidChase I'm doing some behavioral science on villagers and need to actually test this. I only used it for my own good and managing inventory limits, while my villagers sit cozily around their fireplaces.
@@LauriHuu so i've tested they uses coal when they do not have access to wood. Bloomery sure consume alot of coal.
@@MidChase Oh that's good news! I wasn't able to test so thank you for that. I'll do a simple math calc on the efficiency still. Coalmaker does give 3.75 coals per fire wood used so it seems plausible that coal is far more efficient in burning for warming. Even without seeing the fill % right now. There is the negative of not being able to store it inside housing and also restricting access to fire wood. That can be done with warehouse whitelisting I'm sure but might be a little finicky with large population.
After giving it a negative review in Steam. lol! I'm still playing, this game its so hard. Now, there's an invasion notice coming 8 days. I'm fortifying my base with fences and gates. I would probably gonna sorround the portal with fences. Double fences. lol. Hope that helps not to destroy the base or killed any npcs. when I got home tonight. See what happened. Because I almost gave up on this game when bear came, killed my 2 npcs out of 3. The other one killed in winter. WTH was that. Hard to solo. I would find the cave when the invasion is over. Enjoy.
this might be a little late but set up a barracks and archery range and get your Vikings training. the day of have them patrol around the invasion portal (if you have found it) that way the can help you in the fight
Nice video! I think the guy standing there while u were trying to place actually blocks it. Also do u get warmth from the torch? Had that inanother game so curious. Haven't really used torches much yet.

Just got into iron. I'm having a problem automating my iron from the cave to get to the bloomery. Also, how do I get my coal to go to all of the workshops that need it?
if the cave is a distance away from your settlement the only way is to make a market and move resources back and forth. should be getting into that soon. if its not the villager assigned to the bloomery will get what he needs. as far as getting the coal where you need it the villagers will grab the coal they need. just watch out for the warehouse guy he likes taking coal out of places that dont make sense
