I loved this story, and was transported to the time and place by the wonderful narration of Catherine Billson.
Oh this was so DELIGHTFUL!!! I love that you had Eugenia and Phoebe realize the pattern they’d allowed themselves to fall into and have a conversation acknowledging it
Also I am DYING at John trying so hard and FAILING to make himself understood
Thank you! I have a pet hate of stories where people just don't TALK to each other... and one-dimensional villains, too. Eugenia doesn't even realise that she's become the villain in Phoebe's story, her intentions are good.

I've occasionally thought about writing a sequel series where we catch up with Phoebe and John a couple of decades later, where he's finally been promoted to Ambassador and now they are raising kids in the Danish royal court... maybe one day, but I have way too many WIPs right now to think about it!

A lovely, heartfelt story, to be a young single dependent woman must have been quite frightening & demoralising, with a very uncertain future that was at the mercy of either close family or distant relatives that didn’t want you for you but as an unpaid companion or governess. Young women of today have so much freedom of choice yet sometimes it seems too me they squander their vote, which was very hard won by my Grandmother’s generation who fought very hard for that right too vote, it saddens me that it’s thrown away & ignored completely sometimes. Many thanks xx

Your voice is good, but l am aware all the time lm listening, that it is a woman reading this and can’t concentrate on the story. I am 84 and have been writing stories and listening to audio dramas etc. for over 30 years. Apologies if l offend. Please keep these coming.

What’s a blue stocking? Lol
It's a period appropriate term which was applied (often in a not very nice way) to women who were considered a bit too clever for their own good!
Yeah, “blue stocking” was what many people of that time would call any woman who was as well-educated &/or well-read as the gentlemen of that era had the opportunity to be, despite ladies being barred from the same type of education as gentlemen 🤓
