How is South Africa faring 30 years after the fall of apartheid?

  • This weekend marks Freedom Day in South Africa, 30 years since the ANC and Nelson Mandela rose to power after decades of often brutal institutionalized segregation. There was immeasurable hope and promise when apartheid fell, and for many years, South Africa was on the up. The economy was booming and the standard of living increased for the vast majority. While South Africans may now share equal rights under the law, some say a form of economic apartheid has taken hold instead. Huge gaps between rich and poor have many complaining that little has changed since 1994.

The Zim guy living in London and comparing SA as "not as bad if compared to other African countries" is exactly what is wrong with leadership in Africa. We measure ourselves as "the best of the worst" instead of "the best of the best". Forget South Africa. Africa as continent is in crisis because of leadership failure, rampant corruption and probably the most important, inadequate education. Keeping the majority population "dumb" is the playbook for all of Africa. Thus governments avoiding being challenged intellectually.
As for SA, the ANC has done a great job at liberating the country but since the Zuma years, it has shown itself ineffective in running the country and growing the economy. As an ex ANC voter, it pains me to say this, BUT its time for them to GO

The biggest mistake for ANC in 1994 was that when they got power they prioritised looting of state funds instead of focusing on building dams, power stations, proper houses and sanitation.
Mismanagement and corruption of state resources are to blame for the current state of affairs and not Apartheid.

Basically, the ANC has not succeeded in any way at all. They went into politics to make money, personally, not to help their fellow black people. They give themselves HUGE salaries, live in mansions, fly around the world and make friends with leaders of Muslim countries and very rarely appear in public. They would happily give our wonderful country with all it's rich minerals to the highest bidder! Their religion is GREED.

Good afternoon I wish to say yes the land issue is as such 1the government has millions of areas of land undeveloped with no bore holes or structures so nobody is interested in that land
2 developed land pre 95 developed by the white farmers invested millions of rand buying or inherited the land invested money and labor to be able to farm this land with provide a lot of jobs for people This is the land with the people is interested in (DEVELOPED)land.
also, look at what happened to Zimbabwe the land was forcefully taken away from white farmers and it is poor with no food money and that's the reason why they overrun SA.
The ANC caused a lot of problems for SA and it will take years to correct the wrongdoing and CORRUPTION by the ANC government, not the people
