One of the sickest burns, among many.
"Don't give this sucka no statue, give him GUTS!" Iconic take down line as only Mr. T could deliver.
Lines like that make Clubber more of a rival than a villain. On some level, even Rocky was clearly feeling deep down that he agreed with that statement. Needed more guts, to defend his belt like a real champion. Mickey and Adrian didn't see it that way, Mickey saw a miracle he had to protect. Adrian saw the man she wanted to love for her whole life. But Rocky agreed deep down. The crass line about Rocky's wife helped pave a road for Rocky to not retire, and justify it.
But there are other scenes that show Clubber being pretty unnecessarily mean and loudmouth to Creed, calling him a has-been. So he is ultimately a villain. But I wouldn't have minded a callously encouraging rival.

I always found it hard to make out exactly what he was saying with that line. On the old VHS tapes, anyway.

Clubber Lang is an underrated character.
If Adrian took Clubber up on that offer, that movie would have been viewed more than Rock 4 and 5 combined.
I like how Lang talked all smooth to Adrian, then went back to SCARY MODE afterwards.

@@dantemackey7471 Oh that would have been interesting but we wouldn't have gotten much of a build out of it. Clubber Lang would have had to carry the majority of it since he would have more then likely done most of the talking. And when it comes to the fight I think Ivan Drago would have won simply because he had technique. Clubber Lang would try to brute force his will and would have tired himself out early. Which would have left an opening for Ivan Drago to just pick him apart within minutes maybe even seconds.
Oh yeah, why didn't they have a pre-match press conference?

Despite the presence of Drago and George Washington Duke, Lang's THE only Rocky opponent/character to fit the bill of a sheer evil antagonist, thanks to the superb performance by Mr. T.

I wouldn’t call Clubber evil . Had a chip on his shoulder and a dared anyone to try and knock it off . He talked the talk and backed it up When you stepped in the ring with him he did his best to obliterate you .

@@sharronbrown8086 yes he came over the Ben Franklin Bridge from Camden, New Jersey the day they were filming and stood in the crowd as an extra. He yelled that and I guess Sylvester Stallone liked it and kept it in the movie.
When I watch this scene, my sympathies are always firmly with Clubber Lang. He is the number 1 contender, and he is only asking for what he is entitled to.

In his way Clubber was as good at publicity and marketing as Apollo. Nothing could possibly generate more press than crashing Rocky’s statue unveiling and propositioning his wife in front of the entire town.

Rocky 3 is the best amoung the series. Clubber stole every scene with his fast burns and aggressive style. Mr. T deserved better notoriety for his acting skills. Fun fact: Ernie Shavers auditioned for the part of Clubber originally.

When they ask me who was the most dangerous Rocky's opponent: I tell them without hesitation: Mr. T aka Clubber Lang, the only one in the whole saga who defeated Rocky. What an amazing and inspirational character. Dead Meat.

Clubber Lang should have been represented in some of the other subsequent Rocky franchise movies. They act like the events in Rocky III never happened. I mean Ted took his name which is great but they should have had him fight Drago or someone later in the franchise. I think he's my favorite character in all of the 32 movies or so in the Rocky Franchise. 😅

To me Clubber Lang was not an antagonist. He might have tried to have gone about it in a "nice" way to get a shot at Rocky, but he made several great points. To me, Clubber's humanity comes out when he is speaking to the crowd, while Mickey speaks to Rocky. Here is what Clubber says (from 3:11):

Because I deserve this shot.

Clobber Lang was the only fighter Rocky lowkey showed some fear for. He had Rock shook they first fight 😂
micky died and rocky was not in the right head space at all and that made it easier for Clubber to scare rock in the first fight

Here are two things I don't understand: One, they make it sound like Mickey could choose who Rocky fought...I thought in real life you had to fight whoever the governing bodies tell you (WBA/WBC/maybe also IBF at the time)...or else. And while we're on that subject, apparently in the Rocky universe only the Ring Magazine championship/belt exists?

Clubber's anger is understandable. He's been waiting to fight Rocky for THREE YEARS!! Its an insult.
" Hey woman! Hey woman!" He wouldn't finish that sentence cause I'm diving on him! lol Best movie/ opponent of the series. Authentic. Mr T was believable. Didn't like Creed either. That would've been a good fight! Funny parts were when he talked to Balboa during the fight. " Cmon Balboa, make me wait- POW! POW!"
