- Winning awards and honors is not a matter of waiting for them to come to you. You have to be proactive!! First, you have to do your research to seek out awards to apply to. Then, you have to enact a CONCRETE plan where you hold yourself accountable with a planner/calendar. Comment "I'm awesome" if you're seeing this!

Great video ❤
Hi! I really like your videos! Just curious, what's your opinion about National Honor Society?
HAHA I just made a video and talked about it but I don’t think it’s a good idea lol - personally never joined
@@irisfu6929 Awesome, can't wait!😁
Ilyyyyyy and thanks for the advice 💗 btw ur so pretty 👑
K.K’s Channel Aw thanks girl 💕 glad u enjoyed the vid
Iris Fu omggggg I’m freaking outtttt! I can believe you replied 💕 your videos are always great 🥺🥺💛 ( I’m also in 7th grade so like I’m prepared 😂)
Can’t *
thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!
Where was this channel when I was applying to Stanford... :'-(
:/ class of '24 will help the young ones
Honestly I have been watching your videos because I just developed my own book. Could you list some of the awards you received because I googled some in my niece and couldn’t find any.
Thank😀
I'm awesome!!:)
Hi Iris! I'm a rising junior (who is also from Oregon!) and I have a lot of different interests, like comp sci (esp Web Design), art, and public speaking. I don't know which one I am going to focus on in college. Should I find awards and competitions that sprinkle over all these subjects (what I have been doing) or only hammer down on one? I heard that being a better applicant means you go in depth in a subject and do amazing things, but so far, I am more of a student that does multiple activities and is mediocre in all of them.
I think for awards or any application, it's really a numbers game! I would apply to awards in all categories and see what you get. I made a video on finding your spike (for applicants who are jacks of all trades on paper). I was def like you but I was still able to find a "spike" to bring my app together!
What are some awards that would be good for the medical field?
I’m awesome!
Ayyy!!!
Could you make a list of awards you found through research maybe? It would be super helpful! Also, can you earn awards at the beginning of your senior year or should you just focus on college apps? Essentially, should applying for awards mostly just be junior year.
You can totally earn awards beginning of senior year!! I found global teen leader, future first citizen (this ones local for me), Zonta international young women in public affairs, bezos scholars, Ashoka young Changemaker, etc.
I’m awesome
Hey, loved your video. Could you say about how many awards would be enough to get into an ivy?
i won an honor award its called student of the month for having all A+ s in english courses
Hey quick question! What are some outstanding awards you would recommend regarding like business/ finance or math?
DECA competitions or math team is what I’d do!
National economic challenge
Super cute, and you're definitely right. I was just inducted into one college honor society not because someone reached out to me, but I was search graduation info and stumbled on a page. I briefly looked and said "hmmm I hit all those requirements, let me apply" and came back accepted. But despite having all my info, grades, etc... its not like someone reached out to me to let me know I was eligible. So as she says, definitely do your own search.
What do you do about awards where your teacher has to nominate you?
Do you ask them?
(Btw are private school students eligible for state run awards?)
Do you recommend any awards for seniors?
You are amazing 😉. My mom is making me skip another grade of math this summer. I am just curious if skipping many grades of different subjects are necessary. Did you skip any subjects? Thanks a lot. Fun fact, one of my friends from a higher grade than me is going to Stanford too!
Lucy’s Vlogs I did skip a few grades in math actually, so I was taking BC Calc by sophomore year. Tbh, I think it helped a lot. That’s awesome! I’d love to meet your friend and you one day in person!!
Iris Fu thanks a lot. You are so pretty and amazing ❤️
Im awesome ;)
hey! could you pls recommend some non-competitive awards
Can u get those from joining after school clubs? Ex: student council, art programs, and etc. I’m a sophomore btw
What do I do if I'm not good at anything to compete at competitions?? ;-; I'll be in grade 11 in September and do I still have time to make my college applications good enough for top universities..?? I only did this one thing in grade 9 where I won state Chinese speaking competition and went to study trip for free :(( I had to "skip" grade 10 cuz I moved from Australia to Canada and because of Covid19 I'm really worried ahhh
you don't have to be!!! many of my stanford friends don't even remember what they put under awards haha. the awards and honors section is truly not a big deal. it's more why you're doing certain activities and how you've grown as a person that matters
Is there any awards you recommend for freshman?
Great Tips!! Could you post an EC and honors video of how you got into Stanford?
Would u prefer a video explaining my own EC and honors or a video with the types of ECs honors Stanford admits have (filmed with my friends in Stanford ‘24)?
@@irisfu6929 would love to hear one of you sharing your personal experience and the latter too -- that would be so, so helpful. again, such great content. love it! :-)
@@irisfu6929 I would love to hear some of your own EC and honors. I saw one titled like that on your channel but I think the video is now private.
@@snigdharoy6607 ok thanks for the suggestions!
@@risheethabhagawatula9776 ok thanks for the suggestions!
what awards or competitions maybe look cool in medical field ?
Is gao foundation online essay competition useful and can be added in awards section? Tell me pls
Hello Iris! How would you go about awards that require nominations (and may have limits per school)? Do you think these are given or should you outright ask your counselor or principal to nominate you for an award? I never understood how these nominations were selected but I do know of many awards that are by nomination. Do you have any tips on asking for a nomination without sounding too pretentious? Thank you for your awesome videos!

what is the maximum hours you ever studied in a day?
Maybe 8?
Do volunteer awards such as the presidential service award look good or are they just another volunteering award? And things like the congressional award that are not competitive but about personal goal setting, are those good? Or should I look into more competitive awards?
Yeah they’re kinda eh bc a lot of people have them. It sounds like you’re pretty ambitious, so I’d encourage you to look into more competitive awards
@@irisfu6929 what are some more competitive ones?
hey probably super random but i would love to apply to yygs :) do you know what would maximize my application? ik you applied and got in and was just wondering what it takes
I think just super genuine essays!! Show that you care about your community. Write it in your own voice. And try to show initiative in your ECs!
I’m a junior rn and Idk what cords I will get once I graduate or how to even get them so I’m here
Same here:(
Me either :c
Hi Are there any Honors & Awards for a community college student? I'm an international student come from china, My community college is in the east bay. majoring in CS/Math.
If I’m currently a junior do you think it’s too late for me to do this strategy of 10 awards per semester ? Because after this semester I just have 1 semester until it’s senior application szn 😭
NO! I am in the same boat and we have all summer to apply for these awards too! We got this!
I can’t even get Linkedin because I’m only 14. I think the age requirement is 16. But btw I am in high school. But right now I don’t even think having a LinkedIn account would benefit me because I’m too young and haven’t done anything impressive yet.
It’s never too early to see what other people are doing though. Start on google :)
Iris Fu but how? It won’t let me make an account without an age.
its_n you can use google regardless of age. As for LinkedIn, you can use your parent’s account or have them create one for you. There’re always workarounds!
I wanted to apply for the Zonta awards but it isn't offered in my region in the middle east. Most awards aren't available to me due to my geographic region. Do you have any advice?
Aw that sucks. I would see if they have an “at-large” region which basically means if you don’t live in an area that they specifically cover. Many awards do (like the Princeton prize in race relations). I would just search for more national level ones that don’t start form the local level, and you should be good to go!
@@irisfu6929ya Fu!!! Cd you pls tell the awards covering middle east also.
I’m interested in math, do you know what I can do with that?
There are math competitions like AMC, but I’m sure there are more niche ones too if you look for them. Otherwise, you can do a math research project, or another form of a passion project surrounding math (see my vid on passion projects and/or read “how to be a high school super star”-linked this in my 10 book recs video). Hope this helps!
Hi, Iris! So, do all the competitions have to be major-related? thx!
googling was obvious! i do this often still there is limited opportunity for bangladeshi student
Does it matter if the award is less well-known? Thank you so much:))
what less well known awards r u talking about i want to apply for some awards myself
@@lucypatalano5828 Sorry for the belated reply.. I barely use this account. I'm talking about hackathons, regional awards such as local scholarships. I think that you should look at JLV consulting for the blog as this is where I got a lot of info
How many awards do you need to get into a good college?
awards won’t make or break your acceptance, but they definitely help
maybe do a video on internships
Will definitely consider! Thx for the idea 💡
I'm awesome. Hi, I'm going to be entering my sophomore year in high school and wanted to know if you know of any online award opportunities! Btw I love your videos, they are very informative!
aw :) I found all my online award opportunities through google searches in relevant areas of what I was doing! Would just recommend google/the internet. Go get those awards!
is there a maximum amount of awards/honors you can put in the common app? thanks! ❤
Kiko Angeles yes you can only put five awards on the common app
@@enzhongwang8542 thankss
Kiko Angeles no problem
Is there a particular website where you can find/apply for awards?
lmk if u find one plz!!
did you find one?
ayo we got matching APES books
What do you mean by applying for awards? Don’t you need to earn your award through winning a competition or something
Yeah I had the same question.
Yes you can, but there are many other ones (mostly leadership related) where the “competition” is an application process. For example, Global Teen Leader or Bezos Scholar. You also have to research for competitions to attend. Many times, there are weekend long competitions that you can sign yourself up for and win.
