Teena Marie absolutely ate those vocals. What’s crazy though is the fact that she almost missed out on singing her part because she was sick. She pulled herself together enough to get to the studio and tear it up in 1 take!! She ended up going to the hospital right after because she was so ill.
She was to black for the white community
One of the best duets ever. Teena was incredible and Rick was great.
This here is one of best love duets sang with so much emotion it bring tears to your eyes and to think she was sick at the time
Gives me the chills every time Teena’s verse comes in. So glad you reacted to this masterpiece! Teena was one of THE best singers ever. RIP to the both of them. 🕊️
THAT WAS THE BEST REACTION TO ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS! YOU GAVE IT WHAT IT DESERVES THANK YOU!!!💋
RIP to both of them great reaction
My favorite part is 6:39 the buildup to both of their high notes blending together and Teena's "you turned on" repeated beforehand just sets the perfect mood 🤌
I also like how your jaw dropped both times they first came in lol
Yes yes… simply the best. So nice to see you enjoy this jam. Rick and Teena will always be my favorite musicians of all time… may they both be resting peacefully❤
Babies will be made from this song 4 sure 😄🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This was Rick James at his best
And introducing the original white chocolate
Mrs teenia Marie
Those high notes omg!!!!!!
I watched your reaction, but didn't have a chance to comment. This is certainly one of the greatest duet songs in the history of music and I certainly wore this one out from a cassette recording during my puppy love years. But there are some great and I mean GREAT duets from the 1980s you may be missing. You need to do a duet reaction series and be the first one!!! Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn If This World was Mine is one. I will list others to react to later.
The best part of your reaction was the.... Hallelujah! Salute Queen 👑
I loved your reaction, She is the best soul singing sister, called vanilla child, I'm old school and have known about Teena for a long time, got to see Rick live, one of the best concerts I've seen.
Truly a mic 🎤 drop song....
Yes, RICK JAMES was more than “SUPER FREAK” & a skit on The Dave Chappelle Show.
This is music growing up with this the words re etched in your mind and you think about all the good times that came with it.
Love your reaction bad Ass song they are so good together
Great reaction
A very fiery reaction ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥! I see 👁👁 that you have reacted to Rick James before: Super Freak, Give It To Me Baby and Teena Marie: Square Biz. Fire And Desire was not originally released as a single from Rick James 1984 album: Street Songs. But when it was released from the Street Dreams album it became a huge radio hit but it didn't chart due to not being an official album single. It was written and produced by Rick James. Those red boots were the type of fashion that many Rock and/or Funk musicians-singers were wearing back then and Rick James was a Rock and Funk music star supreme. Mary Christine Brockert aka Teena Marie passed away on December 26, 2010 🙏🏾.
Also, Martin and Gina sing Fire And Desire in the 1994 Martin episode: Break Up To Make Up (S3/E5). The song Fire And Desire also appears in the movies Booty Call (1997) and King's Ransom (2005).
Rick James Info 📰:
James Ambrose Johnson Jr. (February 1, 1948 - August 6, 2004), better known by his stage name Rick James, was a singer-songwriter, musician and record producer. Born and raised in Buffalo, New York Rick James began his musical career in his teenage years. He was in various bands before entering the US Navy Reserve to avoid being drafted into the army. In 1964, Rick James deserted to Toronto, Canada, where he formed the rock band: The Mynah Birds, who eventually signed a recording deal with Motown Records in 1966.
Rick James' career with the group halted after military authorities discovered his whereabouts and eventually convicted him of desertion related charges. He served several months in jail. After being released, Rick James moved to California, where he started a variety of rock and funk groups in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
After forming the locally popular Stone City Band in his hometown of Buffalo in 1977, Rick James finally found success as a recording artist after signing with Motown's Gordy Records, releasing the album Come Get It! in 1978 which produced the hits "You & I" and "Mary Jane". In 1981, Rick James released his most successful album: Street Songs, which included career-defining hits such as "Give It To Me Baby" and "Super Freak", the latter song becoming his biggest crossover single, mixing elements of funk, disco, rock and new wave.
Rick James was also known for his soulful ballads such as "Fire & Desire" and "Ebony Eyes". In addition, Rick James also had a successful career as a songwriter and producer for other artists including Teena Marie, The Mary Jane Girls, The Temptations, Eddie Murphy and Smokey Robinson.
Rick James' mainstream success had peaked by the release of his album: Glow, in 1985 and his appearance on the popular TV show, The A-Team. His subsequent album releases failed to sell as well as their predecessors. Rapper MC Hammer sampled Rick James' "Super Freak" for his 1990 hit: "U Can't Touch This" which won Best R&B Song at the 1991 Grammy Awards. Rick James received his only Grammy for composing the song.
By the early 1990s, Rick James' career was hampered by his drug addiction and he was embroiled with legal issues. In 1993, Rick James was convicted for two separate instances of kidnapping and assaulting two different women while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, resulting in a three-year sentence at Folsom State Prison. Rick James was released on parole in 1996 and released the album Urban Rapsody in 1997. Rick James's health problems halted his career again after he had a mild stroke during a concert in 1998, and he announced a semi-retirement.
In 2004, Rick James' career returned to mainstream pop culture after he appeared in an episode of Chappelle's Show. The segment involved a Charlie Murphy True Hollywood Stories-style skit that satirized Rick James' wild lifestyle in the 1980s. This resulted in renewed interest in his music and that year he returned to perform on the road. Rick James passed away later that year from heart failure at age 56 🙏🏾.
In November 2020, Rick James' estate confirmed the sale of a 50% stake in his publishing and masters catalog to the Hipgnosis Songs Fund, founded by Canadian music industry executive and entrepreneur Merck Mercuriadis.

Rick James called out a girl backstage who didn't recognize him by saying, "Never mind who you thought I was, I'm Rick James, bitch!" The audience erupted and gave Rick James a standing ovation as he walked off the stage.
