    I love watching a great band play a great song for the first time and have absolutely no idea where they are going to take it in the next five seconds. "Mindset" was the first thing I had ever heard by them and I was blown away. Listening more I adore how they just 'do their thing' at will crushing genre expectations. They are a breath of fresh air in music. They are truly a great band and one of the best I have ever heard.

      Me too, Davey. This was the first song I heard from them as well and this is a true showcase of exceptional talent.

    After they had lengthy auditions, they decided to bring in Angie as supporting vocalist/hype girl and a lead vocalist (Mai, their last performer had announced her departure from the band half a year before). And just as it seemed all to be set, 5 days before announcing the new lineup the new main vocalist left them standing in the rain by withdrawing, and they had to scramble yet again.
    That's when Hana decided, that she would switch to guitar/vocals, so they "only" had to look for a new drummer, which seemed more likely to succeed. Yuri, who at that time had already agreed to join Bridear, was convinced by Gachapin to join them instead. They knew her from years ago, when they had a couple of gigs together (Lagoon and GS).
    They made their 10th anniversary package with Angie (Gacha-Base-members + Angie = GS 4.9) and eased her in, by giving her more and more parts, her first big showing being the main lead on Koete Yuke. Hana and Yuri shared drum duties for half a year with Yuri taking over more and more of the setlist. On years end Yuri (for their 10th anniversary live BlueRay) then was the full time drummer and from then on Hana only plays drums on special occasions. That's GS 5.0 (which they now say is their final form).
    If you think, that that's it, you're wrong ofc. GS 5.0 first album was Gold Dash, which was primed for being showcased at the paralympics in Tokyo. But then ofc the pandemic happened.
    When the band regrouped to record their self-titled album (the one your listening to) Yuri announced her pregnancy and Hana had to pick up the drum sticks yet again. She played drums on the album, but also played guitar. So what you hear on the album is Hana on drums, but most live versions will have Yuri on drums. So one could say this album is actually GS 4.9 (Yuri contributed to the songwriting though).
    They also had a support drummer (Levin) for their lives, who was with them til Yuri was ready again to take over.
    So actually the coming album W will be the first one with all of them having found their place in the band and no major turmoil surrounding them (except them switching labels).
    Got it???? LOL
    btw, the first 9 years were just as chaotic/challenging :D

    MindSet is one of my favorites as well, and i agree that Angelina 1/3 (or Angie) was a real stroke of luck, she fits so perfectly and brings the energy - even more than they already had XD
    yuri I don't think ever was a support girl. Angie however was indeed supposed to be more of a hype girl and less of a vocalist, thankfully she really stepped up to that challenge, she's pretty great.
    I know I said it before, but that live video I really love, Gachapin does little to no post-production, you can really hear that it's actually not quite perfect (just very, very good), it makes it sound so much more genuine and, indeed, human.

    This is most reactors' first Gacharic Spin song, so it's nice to get the first impressions of someone who already knows the band pretty well. And yes, there is a seriousness to the lyrics again.
    Yuri is the drummer. She wasn't in the studio video for this or I Wish I because she was on maternity leave.

    • @MaartenT
      @MaartenT Před rokem +2

      I believe yuri wasn't in the studio for most (if not all) of the album actually and Hana recorded most of the drums on this album. But I can't say for sure, she is certainly mentioned in the credits as she was still part of the band. But that's how I I have always interpreted what I have read. Hana is doing drums on this MV and Levin (the male support drummer they have used when yuri was on maternity leave) on the I Wish I video.
      Edit: I just saw that Ami Wolf also mentioned yuri not being involved in the recording of this album. They seem to know a lot about them and that's what I have read multiple times in the past as well.

      Yes, it's a weird thing. She played on their previous album "Gold Dash" but because of the maternity leave she couldn't on this one. I recently commented the upcoming album was her first album she actually played on. I quickly noticed that wasn't correct, but I initially forgot that yuri played on Gold Dash as well.

    Yes, Angie made her costume herself.
    The middle part of the song (the extended solo) was composed by Tomo-Zo and they were not sure if they could play it. ofc they could :)
    Tomo-Zo used her Strat from her previous band (Eu-Phoria) and a Telecaster instead of her PRS.

    Last one - they only added official English subs to the recent 2 singles, anything older only has CC's added on fan re-uploads. Hopefully a sign they're looking more towards their international audience and we can dream of seeing them live one day...🤞🤞

      I can almost guarantee you that's a byproduct of them signing with Nippon Crown.
      The subtitles + the reactor challenge for Kachi Kachi Yama (which had a translator if I remember correctly) seem a good indication to me that they are trying to push them a bit harder outside of Japan. So there is at least a higher chance compared to when they were with Victor. I don't think Nippon Crown signed them without a plan to try and make them bigger.

      @homegnome2429 Před rokem

      @@MaartenT I agree, although the translator for the reactor challenge I think was a member of their crew called Kevin? Probably a bit of both assuming the band themselves wanted a label who wanted to push them more overseas (or at all for that matter!)

    Watching again to pick up other comments - Angie's uniform, I believe I read that she made it? So maybe she's a fan of Fuki who as I understand makes the costumes for UM? Tomo-zo's guitar effect near the end, she's a big fan of Wah pedals - you'll see that again, especially in Magic Umbrella girl. Yuri joined in 2019, same as Angie, allowing Hana to move to Guitar and vocals.

    I forgot that you've never reacted to this song before. "MindSet" was the song that made me want to go deeper in Gacahric Spin discography. I was in love with DOLL$BOXX at the time but I couldn't get into most of Gachapin songs because I didn't understand them like I do now. I started to like their songs more and more until I fell in love with Gachapin more than I did with DOLL$BOXX (that's not true, I love them both as much 😁).

    GS' most popular song on YT despite being relatively recent. You can see why as it's instantly accessible compared to some older stuff, but still shows off the amazing musicianship, especially through that bridge!
    I think I mentioned whilst you were going through Music Battler that the thing I missed from the new stuff is Oreo having much less vocals, but it allowed her to concentrate on more complex piano parts, less track, and of course we have Angie's voice as well so I can't exactly complain.
    You can see why the band are very much using Angie as the frontperson and promoter of the band - she has so much charisma. I would say that they definitely practice a lot of the stage movements, more so when they had the dancers, but if you watch different live versions of Mindset you'll see Angie definitely has licence to mix it up.

    This is the track that got me into them. I knew about them before, but the snippits I had heard before were a bit too poppy and electronic for my liking back then. When I discovered this MV, I watched it multiple times per day for a couple of weeks (just the MV and reaction) and it ultimately made me pre-order their album and made me buy their 10th anniversary Blu-ray (which is a pain to find nowadays).
    I can't say for sure if I otherwise wouldn't have gotten into them, Kachi Kachi Yama and the new one Replica are great as well, but it's certainly possible that it would have taken an extra album to be convinced.
    That said, the biggest push of me buying most of their stuff has been because of the live videos that were requested by Home Gnome and 2abug on the streams of some reactors. It made me realize how talented they were and the spectacle they bring live made me used to their electronic poppiness while still being entertained. It's a shame that a lot of their stuff is as hard to find (and expensive because of that). Their previous label Victor has a tendency to not reprint releases and the releases before that were done under the "Juicy Girls Records" label, but I think that was done by the band themselves and I have no clue who has those rights nowadays (+ all the possible problems with royalties of ex-members).
    Hopefully that won't be a problem anymore with everything they will release under Nippon Crown. I don't know if they still repress the old Band-Maid albums, but those seem at least more easily available.

      It is very true though. While I loved MindSet and I enjoyed a good chunk of their self-titled album, I wasn't sold on their old stuff until I saw those requested live videos. I never really was into concerts with a lot of spectacle, but those videos have shown me that music doesn't always has to be serious. It inadvertently gave me way more appreciation for other artists as well like Atarashii Gakko, Zutomayo and even the over the top shows by Seikima II for example, which I would have found a bit too cheesy years ago.
