-viewer submitted project is what we are up to today. New to me but fun nonetheless todays project is a B+B ...bees and bugs hotel, condo, house.I used a lot of recycled materials to build this and collected a bunch of natural materials to fill it. Bugs or not i think it turned out pretty good and makes a nice garden ornament as is

To make an antiqueing stain for new wood, place a sheet (12×12 or so) aluminium foil soaked in white vinegar until it dissolves. Brush it over new wood. Turns it gray and old looking immediately. I have no idea why, but it works very well.

Awesome take on the idea sir. Made the 'mistake' of showing my wife (I think she is a a type of squirrel since she loves collecting acorns) so I can see a smaller version with acorns, chestnuts, pinecones - thank you for providing the inspiration and guidance on how to get it done. The content you share helps bring a little peace in the world we live in. Thank you for taking the time to film and edit and everything else it takes to put out content.

Wow Doug, that's beautiful... I would put that inside my house for decor. A craft store would sell that for a pretty penny. (I also like the nail gun.)

Any bug or bee should be beeyond excited to stay there. Yours looks like a 5 star establishment :)
The only time I've seen the Bug Hotels were in videos or movies from the UK and generally placed in or around the garden.

Doug, that is a work of art. hope you get lots of insects to take up residents.
I have been building bee houses for solitary bees for over 12 years now, and use a 5/16" brad point bit to get a very clean hole. The bees will not nest in a hole that is not smooth.
My bee houses are for the Osmia lignaria. They are the best pollinator of fruit trees.

That is Bob on. Love re-using stuff that is scrap to other people. Man after my own heart. No fancy sawdust extraction, just need a dustpan and brush! I wish I had as much room as you have. I seem to have timber and bits of doors with hinges attached in the way. Yesterday I spent an hour (3!) sorting through some hardwood pallet wood that was on top the table saw. Time to make that bee/ bug hôtel 👌🍀
