I totally agree I really dig the color I love the fact that it was one solid color or not two tone which is rare..
The interior is what got me there was so much color in that interior and it was nice like I don’t know how to describe the texture was just like Kaiser bamboo seat texture but it didn’t feel like those seats just the texture of a did very comfortable
The owner has other Nash products like a country club I would really love to go over there and do that but I totally forgot to get his number but I think I might be able to figure it out

Haha yeah i’ll do more jingles at the end I love to sing I don’t have the best voice in the world but it’s a tie into not having a radio in a vehicle.. The acoustics in my truck at Great just like singing in the shower lol
I used to sing a lot of karaoke but I don’t anymore I haven’t seen karaoke in probably 10 years I used to be able to go note for note with Brian Wilson as well as Mike love all the low notes.. At one point in time I could hit that more than a feeling Boston note but I can’t hit it anymore because I don’t really sing that much. Only at the end of an episode or when I’m alone in my truck haha
Great choices The owner told me the car rides like you’re driving in your living room because the seats are so plush and it’s got a coil springs
Packard V81 for engine episode I’m not entirely sure if there’s going to be an episode tomorrow or not I have to go to Pittsburgh and deliver a cabinet first thing in the morning..
The next car episode I believe it’s going to be the 1929 Willy knight sleeve valve..

Hi Jay!: NASH! Pretty interesting car! I have never seen one in person, especially a two door! Bet it was very peppy with the Packard V-8! Had SO MANY interesting interior features! Wish they still did a lot of those! The dash was interesting too! WYR#1 Going with that neat 2-dr. Hudson! #2 was all set to pick the Nash, THEN, Clipper! Have to go Packard! Here's our family's NASH story. Back before I came around Dad was shopping for a used car, and found a green Nash 4-dr. Mom practically begged him not to buy the car, but Dad was pretty stubborn and bought it. It was more than likely a 1950 or 1951, and had the Six. Well, they didn't have it for very long, something happened with the engine. Mom called that car the NASTY NASH, and every time she sees a picture of one that's what she calls it!

    55 Studebaker
    55 Packard Clipper
Two of my favorite automobile companies.
I've never been a fan of the sedan and hardtop bodies on these but I love them in a station wagon. Very stylish interior in that car. Surprisingly spacious inside.
As I mentioned before in one of the previous videos my sister-in-law had a Packard clipper I used to ride in it quite a bit when I was 10 or 11. I always loved it and thought it was just a big beautiful automobile.
All these great automotive companies are no longer with us and that is sad. That said. It's great that there are collectors and enthusiasts that still have these vehicles and keep them as they are so that we can enjoy them now.

My friend had one of these many years ago. He saw it in a field, he stopped, and asked this old guy about it. The guy got so excited somebody cared, he gave my friend the car! It was a 1955 four door Ambassador. It had the 252 inline six, with two carbs, and an automatic. We put in a 12 volt battery, and connected the wrong way at first! OOPS! We finally got a 6 volt, and connected it positive ground, and it ran great. But the darned thing had been hit in the front on the passengers side. The damage didn't look that bad, but he could never get it to drive straight. Sadly I think it went tro the crusher about 1980.

I honestly couldn’t believe it was there at the show because these things are that rare I was really hoping to see the air flight there’s one for sale I reached out to the guy but doing cars for sale is become kind of weird they think it’s a scam or something like that..
Doing them a car shows is even weirder because you have an audience and I don’t I like it’s weird I don’t like presenting it to a group of people I’d rather it just be me. But this show was really cool it was super intimate there was maybe 30 cars there but everybody got to talk to one another and it was just a cool experience.

The Packard Clipper was their entry level model. It would have had the same 320 c.i. V8 as used in the Nash. It also looks like the Nash also used the earlier Packard non-auto shifting automatic. These were similar in function as the Buick DynaFlow, normally running in the "D" or direct drive position and having the torque converter do all the work. The difference was that the Ultramatic had a lock-up torque converter, giving a true direct-drive. If by chance there is a dot to the left of "D", which doesn't show up in the picture, then it could very well be the later "gear-start" Ultramatic and would start in Low and automatically shift to Drive, when in the "D" position. I seem to remember that the Packard Clipper didn't have a dot in their shift quadrants either.
It's true that Nash was one of the first cars to have uni-body construction. People often didn't care for the fenders partially covering the tires, but there was a major structural piece in that part of the fenders, so they really shouldn't be opened up.

The 54 big Nash was the first car with fully integrated underhood AC - for years AMC had excellent AC. My Dad got transferred to FL early in his working life. Mom not thrilled. As a peace offering he got a 64 Rambler American with AC - pretty much unheard of in a compact car. A couple years later they moved back north and AC was still pretty uncommon in anything less than a full size. It was literally the cool car, even if it could barely get out of its own way (by today's standards).Farina didn't actually have all that much to do with the design Anderson recalled being asked (told) if it was OK they played up the designed by Pinin Farina aspect and he said something like "Sure, I'm a company man as much as anyone, if it's good for sales, OK". He was worth more than AMC realized, and after more or less dumping him, they were very lucky to get Teague as a replacement. Such cool interiors - nash had one of the first female interior designers in Helene Rother and I think she was there long enough to work on the 54-56 interiors. Really neat car, Packard V8 was a little heavy though. WYR #1 - that's a toughie: the President speedster is the collector's choice, glizty tri tone and all, and the Hornet still had the Twin H for this last year which was probably the best compromise for this car vs. the Packard V8, but the Nash interior styling wins it the nod. #2 - Nash.

Very true Farina didn’t really have that much to do it was more Anderson than anybody but I guess they designed the Nash Healey so they wanted them to design everything else and they really did it they made one concept car that had the body of the production or very close to the body it wasn’t identical.. with the same grill the Nash Haley used it’s a very interesting looking car I don’t know how many they made it’s probably one or maybe even two

The '55-'57 Nash's, but especially the '55 remind me of the car in the movie, The Car, with it's front fender bulges. Love this dashboard! If there was any problem with the 1955 Nash, it was that AMC designers were trying to make the Hudson--which shared the Nash body shell--look distinctive and different than the Nash. The '55 Hudson looked more like a '54 Nash than the '55 Nash, given the changes in the front end. The Nash looked something like a bar of soap that had been left in the shower a little too long, in my opinion. Also, Packard made AMC pay out the wazoo for the Packard V-8/Ultramatic combination, which made the V-8 models much more expensive than the sixes (and, as you noted, less expensive than Packard Clippers with the same engine! Finally, speaking of rust, one of my neighbors had a 1956 Ambassador Special two-door hardtop circa 1965...and the car was so riddled by rust, despite it being freshly repainted, that it literally split in half on the grease rack at the gas station.

Hi Jay. Yes, it's an attractive car, though I personally despise Continental kits. It would have been an option rather than standard fitment I suspect. The 140hp of the six is a very impressive number for 1955. Did you notice how far inboard the front wheels are? That just screams understeer to me. That's the price of the bathtub look I guess. A long standing Nash feature, probably applicable to this car is that the front seats fold down so as to create a double bed inside. Cheers.

I didn’t show the bed feature in this car the owner said that it does do that but the seats were too nice and those seat backs are super naughty I don’t know if you’ve ever attempted to put them down but sometimes they get locked in the down position and they’re paying to get back up so I didn’t want to do that with this car apparently the seats were recovered at one point but the rear covered in the same material that guy bought the car from one of the longest lived AMC dealerships around here that just sold all their inventory off for years ago it was called volmers i’m not sure if the spelling is right..
There is a 1967 Rambler Marlon coming up it’s the only one I’ve ever seen in person cars absolutely epic but I didn’t get in the backseat or anything like that because it was filled with memorabilia.. and was said to be the most original one left doing this as long as I’ve done it seat material from that period of time is very fragile.. so I didn’t wanna risk anything. I’m going to try to do the marlin this week sometime because it’s also a unicorn and totally different than the 65 which I did a 65 at that show as well the cars that I covered at that show
      55 ambassadors
68 javelin I didn’t get in the backseat of that one either
65 Marlin (which we already did on this channel but it wasn’t the nicest one this one was way better plus the channel changed a lot since doing that one so we’re gonna go back and cover some of the stuff that we did in the early years

You know the background on how Nash ended up with Packard motors, no?
Jim Nance, the CEO of Packard, and George Mason, Nance’s counterpart at Nash, were about to form a unification of Studebaker-Packard and American Motors…to rival the Big Three. Mason abruptly died, Romney took over and put a stop to the plan. Studebaker already had a V-8 built in South Bend and Packard production numbers were dwindling. AMC’s V-8 was still a couple of years out (1957) and Packard had additional capacity, as Packard automobiles, although pretty advanced for 1955, were not selling well. Studebaker did offer Packard’s 352 V-8 for one year in the 1956 Golden Hawk, but went back to a supercharged Studebaker V-8 in 1957. Even the 1957-58 “Packardbakers” had Studebaker V-8s.
A real shame, because the Packard V-8s and the improved Ultramatic transmission was one smooth combination.

    • @8176morgan
      @8176morgan Před 9 měsíci +2

That's not true. But its a common misconception. What really happened was that in early 1954 George Mason attempted to initiate a merger but the Packard board wouldn't even let him speak with the directors on behalf of the proposal. And that was the end of it. Not until they were facing bankruptcy a couple of years later did Packard write a letter to AMC asking them if it were interested in joining forces but by then it was far too late as the company by then was drowning in debt. A good book to read on the subject is one called "The Fall of the Packard Motor Company" by James Ward. Newly formed AMC only had Packard engines for one year as the next year in '56 they had their newly designed V-8 engine readily available which was developed by a former Kaiser employee and put on the fast track to mass production.

I was under the impression packard wasn’t in debt and merged with studebaker to survive the decade and ironically didn’t survive because they picked the wrong company to merge with. Studebaker wasn’t honest with their book keeping and was in the red. Why they switched and let studebaker live was a weird decision. I wis packard would have merged with peerless and Pierce arrow but as they say hindsight is 2020

@@What.its.like. It is definitely true that Packard was not in debt at the time that they merged with sickly Studebaker, but they soon would be and it wasn’t just because of Studebaker’s weak financial position. The new V-8 engine cost the company no less than 20 million dollars, they also foolishly moved their company to another location that had a much smaller production capacity that not only delayed the introduction of their new models but also caused a lot of quality control problems that permanently hurt the company’s once stellar reputation. Nash by the way tried to merge with Packard three times. In 1916, in 1948, and again in 1954 but failed all three times. Packard would have been wise to have merged with Nash as they were a much stronger company and especially in 1948 as their two “bathtub” designs looked a lot a like with the main difference being that the ’49-’51 Nash sold well whereas the ’48-’50 Packard proved to be very unpopular with the public once the sales market became competitive again.

You are definitely right about that Nash 2 door V-8 Ambassador being a rare automobile as they only made a total of 1,705 of those cars compared with 18,805 four door models. As for WYR: For the first choice I'll take none of the above, and for the second choice I'll also take none of the above. I'm just not much of a fan of independent models for that year. I'm not surprised that they all ended up with big deficits in what turned out to be a record breaking year in the auto industry. The designs of the Big Three were much better in my opinion and especially GM who made over a billion dollars in profit. There is one particular car though that I have always admired that was not made by the Big Three and that is the 1955 Nash Rambler Custom sedan. There was also a station wagon version made plus a badge Hudson of both types. They are noticeable by their chrome beltline and continental kit on the sedan. Unfortunately Nash didn't make many of them. I read once that they were all made in their El Segundo, California plant that closed later that year. Who knows, but maybe you'll do a feature video on that very impressive looking Nash Rambler Custom sedan or station wagon sometime in the future. You never can tell!

I saw statistics saying that in 1959 ambassador wagon with a three speed could go 0 to 16 8 1/2 seconds anything under 10 in the 50s as fast or so I was told..
I really want to review one but that’s a vehicle that I really want to drive I hate asking for rides alone if I could drive. We did a cross country from 59 and I never asked to drive the cars but I did ask him, respectfully declined I did get to drive a 61 it was a super cool experience in the 196 has more pets and people give a credit for it’s not fast by any stretch of the imagination. I drive a Toyota Prius to commute long distances for fuel economy it had more get up and go than that does but the Prius isn’t a slow car if you know how to drive it I raced the Mazda three yesterday and he never caught up to me.. Think about that I blew his doors off in a Prius it was a Mazda speed three hatchback from like 2006

As much as I love Pininfarina designs I think he couldn't really grasp the concept of American automobile design and came up with this abomination which has the front headlights placement of an European post war compact and the rear end of a Cadillac. Look at that huge rear bumper, like a platform. Totally out of proportion. And what to say about the four wheels hidden behind the fenders. And it features a v8 no less! Just utter nonsense. The heater and air conditioner compressor on 1954-57 Nashes and Hudsons were linked to the front air duct at the lower part of the cowl. Nash and Hudson were actually the first air-conditioned cars to put all the componentry under the hood, not in the trunk as with earlier A/C systems. There were no vents on the rear fender nor little ducts on the parcel shelf. Confusing the matter was AMC'S name for their Weather Eye "Conditioned Air" system, in which air entered through the cowl vent, passed though a water-shedding device and a pollen filter before being pressurized and brought into the passenger compartment. AMC marketed air-conditioned Nashes and Hudsons as having the "ALL-Weather Eye" system

EXCELLENT VIDEO. I was so excited when I saw your video in my feed tonight. What a classic. Scenario 1, I would choose the Hudson Hornet because I just dig Hudsons. Scenario 2, I choose the Nash Ambassador. Really enjoyed getting up close and personal with a car I’ve never seen in person. Thanks!!!

You know me I love the cars off the beaten path I love showing people cars that are not often seen. It’s like our thing =) i’m a huge independent fan as well if you haven’t if you couldn’t tell. Haha I’m so stoked for Hershey it’s going to be like sensory overload for me it generally is but I have a list of cars that I’m looking for usually the list of goes in the trash moment I get to location tho.
But I’ll let you guys in on a few
      1937 studebaker coupe express
      1930 Ruxton
      Jordan any year
      Muncie Jet
      Any all wagons
Packard truck 30s (from what I read those are all custom jobs but they exist)
Great choices I’m glad you did this episode I was really happy with the B roll I got to get better at doing the role and part of it’s due to the GoPro it doesn’t go slow motion the moment that she hit the power button which is stupid there’s a bit of a delay and I tried to adjust for the delay but that doesn’t always work either.

@@What.its.like. I was going to go to Hershey for vacation this summer, but went to Denmark … and visited two really interesting car museums. One was at Egeskov Castle and included both American and European cars side by side. Also visited an open air museum in Aarhus that incorporated cars from the 60s and 70s into some exhibits. Enjoyed both. Happened upon a car club show in Roskilde with several Corvettes and a Trans Am. Drove over to Sweden for a few days and saw a bunch of classic American convertibles from the 60s and 70s on the road. (Swedes love classic American cars.) You would have loved it.

That’s incredible I’ve never been across the pond the furthest I’ve ever gone was Aruba and we were like 20 minutes from Venezuela I wanted to get on a boat and go to Venezuela just to say I’ve been to South America but the climate there wasn’t good politically and I was afraid that we could get in but not Out of there so didn’t go
I want to go backpacking through Europe and get on all the steam trains to get around for transportation problem is my family couldn’t do that like I have a daughter who has to have every accessory in the world just like her mom I could fit everything that I wanted to fit in a camera bag actually back camera bag I have fit everything that I ever wanted in that bag for a couple days. Lol I’m a light packer most guys are =)
Thank you so much for sharing that museum experience if I’m ever over there I’ll definitely have to check it out
