    People always rant how mls refs give out silly red cards. Yet borg wants to give out even more! Some of the plays he calls for red cards in this video are completely unwarranted.

    So if someone tries to punch another player in the face and misses, it's not a red?

    • @cheekypasta55
      @cheekypasta55 Před 10 lety

      No it is. A hard studs up slide tackle that gets any sort of contact is an automatic red. But if that same hard tackle is committed but the other player jumps completely over it, and zero contact or complaint is made, its difficult to give a red for that. If you want to totally nitpick rules then yeah it is technically a red, but in the flow of play, a yellow will do just fine.

    I love MLS but too many players look to draw penalties.

      it's because they know the refs are terrible and will fall for it.

      Even though he obviously dived, it's like he said. He didn't get the yellow for a foul, it was for the delay of the restart

    This commentator would send off 22 players every game whilst awarding 45 penalty kicks

  • @GQJake

    1:25 contact is made on the line. lines are part of the areas they mark=inside the penalty area, thus, penalty kick awarded. commentator is incorrect

    Looks to me like the Salt Lake defender makes contact with him on the line, which is part of the penalty area, PK.

    The Referees have a hard job on the field, to make a Call in a Second.
    The MLS should protect their back, but here the MLS shoots in the back of the Referees.

    For me, its impossible to give someone a red if there was no contact.

    • @cheekypasta55
      @cheekypasta55 Před 10 lety +1

      Yeah same for me. Ive been a ref for quite a long time and when we are talking about hard tackles, if there is no contact, its almost hard to even give a foul. A late yellow after the ball goes out is just fine for me for a reckless challenge. The only time I see a justified red with no contact is if you see someone blatantly try their hardest to completely take someones leg out and totally miss, or miss with intent with any kick/punch/whatever. But other than those rare instances, a red without contact seems way too harsh.

    • @TheYkelTarblow
      @TheYkelTarblow Před 10 lety +1

      One of the ways to get a red card is by endangering the safety of the opponent. For tackles that are studs up and knee high, two footed studs up, etc. they are incredibly dangerous and never necessary. With contact or without, players need to be punished for using tackles that are potentially career ending. There is no place for those sort of tackles in the sport whether they opposing player avoids the contact in time or not. It's similar to we punish people for drunk driving whether they hit someone or not.

    • @cheekypasta55
      @cheekypasta55 Před 10 lety +1

      TheYkelTarblow and that is a very good point. Obviously if the cleat is way high up and knee or thigh high then yes I agree with a red. But when the tackle is very similar to the one showed in this video.......you really think youd give a red there? The guy jumped over it and play continued. He got a yellow afterwards. Any higher and yes absolutely a red. But cmon....in the flow of that game, giving a red for that play is a little much dont you think??
