    To infuse your oil, you will need to follow a 1:5 ratio. 1 part herb/plant/flower to 5 parts carrier oil (an olive oil, almond oil etc). Infuse by following one of the 3 methods:
    1. Place the jar with your herb/oil in your window sill in direct sunlight for about 4-6 wks.
    2. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees F & then turn off. Place your jar in the oven for 3 hours.
    3. Use a double boiler on your oven to infuse your oil for about an hour or so. (I show you how to do this in the video)
    Ingredients for salve:
    1. Infused oil (made the way we discussed in today's video with whatever herb/flower/plant you've chosen)
    2. Beeswax
    3. Essential oils of choice (optional)
    This recipe is made with a 1:8 ratio. You can make as much or as little as needed. Just make sure to follow the 1 part beeswax to 8 parts infused oil. The more beeswax you add, the more solid your salve will be, less beeswax will render a creamy salve. So feel free to play with this ratio depending on the type of product you want. But the 1:8 ratio is a good starting point if you're not really sure. In today's video I used 32oz of white clover infused oil with 4oz of beeswax. This gave me (6) 5 oz jars of salve.

    As a homesteader I really enjoy being able to make my own home remedies for our family. Salves are one of the easiest DIY projects you can make. You can make whatever kind of salve you want...be creative. You don't even have to have a garden full of herbs! We picked wild grown white clover right from our own back yard for this recipe! Salves are fantastic for moisturizing your skin, using as a lip balm, cuts, scrapes, bug bites & more. They're great to have handy. I hope you guys enjoyed this video!

    Thank you 🙏 ❤I only just started foraging and my husband let the grass grow and amazing what popped up! So I have picked white clover and something I never knew what it was called until I used a plant Id and then confirmed it in books as SELFHEAL…wow! So I have already got fresh ones of both in vodka for a tincture and waiting for the others to dry to make infused oil and then a salve! So this was super helpful! I am so sad we don’t get taught this is school (in the UK anyway) and I never had anyone else to show me. Making sure I can learn all I can and pass it to my daughter to start making a change even if it’s a small one ❤

    I like your recipe. I have done some dandelion salve with orange essential oil. It is great to rub into achy joints & dry skin. Also have done my own lip balm with dandelion oil. Soooo inexpensive to make & great for the lips!

    Wasn't sure if you realized that in Anchorage, Alaska there is a DoTerra product center. It is located on the north side of town so you won't have to go all the way into Anchorage if you want to pick up your oils. Also, if you choose to have them delivered it is so quick. I live in the Mat-Su Valley and usually have my order in 2 business days.

    Can you whip it to make it more like a lotion texture?

    • @HomeFreeAlaska
      @HomeFreeAlaska  Před 25 dny

      You can make lotion but I’ve never done it. Ratios will probably be different as the beeswax hardens it. I would definitely look up a recipe, I don’t think this recipe would whip into a lotion because of the beeswax.😊

    Can you tell me how much carrier oil woul i need for 10 cups of dandelions to make salve with please?

    • @djjay-kay7636
      @djjay-kay7636 Před měsícem

      I would just put there herbs in a Mason jar, push it down to compact it and cover the herbs with oil, maybe add an extra oz or 2 ontop to account for settling of the herbs. As long as the herbs are covered after you stir it up you're good. You'll want to leave a few inches at the top of the jar so you can turn or shake it on a daily basis. You will probably need to break up your oil into 2-4 batches depending on the size of your jars.
