Can't decide if you want to be a 2d or 3d Vtuber, well then, don't worry! In today's video, I will talk about the pros and cons to being a 2D VTuber and a 3D VTuber. I'll also go over the costs of being a vtuber and recommend some artists to commission! I'll even show you some amazing FREE assets you can find and artists you can commission. People argue about which one is better and what makes someone a "true vtuber".
Being a 3D VTuber can literally cost you $0 to make. However, 2D VTubers have full on artistic freedom and look aesthetically pleasing. So, which route in the Vtuber rabbit hole are you going to take? The choice can be overwhelming to make, but regardless of what you pick, you're still a Vtuber.

      Idea:
Be true to yourself, make your avatar something you yourself would love if you were a viewer instead of the V-Tuber.
I made my design basically me, so being myself in stream doesn't come across as strange 😁
I however added some details that are more V-Tube like, and put her existence through a filter or how I see myself, and intentionally made her shorter than me. 😁

    • @Giorneau
      @Giorneau Před 2 lety +1

@@Rejomei That's what i thought about since some times now, instead of going for an overcomplex avatar, i'll probably just go with a basic model with some details about what i like for exemple

    2D, 3D, PNG. All valid.
At its core, a vtuber is an entertainer that uses a representation of themselves instead of actually showing their face.
The reasons I can think of as to why some take the PNG route can be financial (can't afford to commission an artist/model creator), hardware or both.

I've already made my choice but I love that you highlighted the pros and cons of both! Also to mention it here - The 3d models are handy for playing stuff like VRChat and you can put them in MMD to dance and such! It's pretty much what was the tipping point for me to do 3D!

I'm going 2D and I already have the sketch of what I made my Vtuber look like and I already have the personality and lore of my character the things I still need are
    1. Needing a drawing tablet to do the drawing digitally.
    2. Getting a good PC for gaming and drawing.
    3. Learning how to rig the model.
    4. Figuring out what I need for streams.
    5. Getting moderators.
    6. Making a Twitter account for my character.
long way to go but I'll get there one day.

LOVE this video!! Awhile ago I was debating on if I wanted to be a vtuber, or just stream in general. It would be really cool to stream games I'm interested in or talk about my interests with others who enjoy it as well. I was gonna try and make a 3D model, since I had seen some videos about VRoid studio. However, I quickly noticed it took a lot of time (I'm very detail oriented tho haha) and I didn't even know what I wanted my model to be anyways(I was just messing around). After seeing this video though, if I do decide on becoming a Vtuber, I think I might go with the 2D route! Art is a hobby for me (I'm not bad but also not the best) and I think it would be really cool if I could make my art a Vtuber!! Thanks again for the video, it was really helpful as I didn't know too many of the differences between 2D and 3D!!! ❤❤✨✨

so i'm getting everything together to get myself started, and I'm so glad i found these videos. these have been giving me a lot of insight. I was afraid that just getting the avatar setup was going to be a nightmare, but your explanation makes it sound so much easier than the "quantum physics engineering" that other people have made this out to be. in either case, however, hearing about the difficulties with 3d avatar versus the simplicity of the 2d avatar, I say challenge accepted! I definitely like the 3D style over 2D, as someone who can't draw at all I spent hours scouring for textures and stuff to put together to make my Avatar but I do want to spend the money to have someone design a truly custom avatar ideally following the one I've got now. I'm taking a lot of time to put things together. I don't want to rush into it. I'm hoping to iron out my heavy learning curve for the different software and stuff. I've been looking for tutorials and they're all like "$999 for this vtubing software that is 10fps" and I then found this and it just helped me SO MUCH right before I almost gave up. I am planning on becomming a 3D Vtuber at the start, and then possibly switching later when I am better with my art skills, so I don't have to pay so much and also so I can have my own custom model. 😀😀🥰🥰😍

Initially I thought I'd just stick with 3D because it's free+relatively easy to make, but the Vtubers I like watching all use 2D so now I'm tempted to make my own 2D model hahah.
Tbh I'm not sure why I suddenly got into Vtubing, but I think it's just so I can play games/socialise with friends online... but it grew on me because it made me learn so many cool things and opened my eyes to a lot of creative+fun people. Anyway, thanks for the info!

u don't need hand tracking if you convert your model to a format that can run in an animation program & with Live2D you can make an overlay for parts you want to move. One program tracks your face to move the head & then by removing parts of that model the overlay is an avatar with no head & u move it with an animation program and commands from the keyboard or mouse.

Another thing that i would like to add is 2d vtuber models can also be free if you are willing to put in a lot of time. I have no art skills but decided that i wanted to try to make my own 2d model, so for the past month, in between college and extra curricular activities ive been slowly making progress. It may not look as good as an experienced artist’s drawing, but it has been looking great so far, and the only requirement is a lot of research and tutorials.

3D models can also take on a 2D kind of aesthetic with the right set up.

This video is very educational! Thank you! I've been a vroid vtuber for nearly a year now and I'm looking into maybe upgrading to 2D although I love vroid and it's cheapness! the clothing shape and body shapes available are limited unfortunately and getting those classic vtuber silhouettes is difficult 😅 also I'm jealous of those vtubers who have those little dance animations

Have been wanting to start vtubing for a little while but I'm so scared of starting off with an ugly model. The thing is that right now I'm pouring all my money into getting a good pc, so I want to go for a free model. And, really, it shouldn't matter how *pretty* my model is when I start;;; I can always change it later. I would like the hand control and not having to use hotkeys for expressions, but the over-time cost for 3D vtubing is a good point. You've given me lots to think about! Thank you for the video :))

I wanted to be a youtuber so bad, but I really didn't feel I had the look, and I honestly think that is why I could catch and traction...but I found vtubers...I can be whatever I want?!? I would love love love to do this! I can be a character, I feel like this would fit me so much better! I would start my whole channel over! I am seriously going to look into this; I have found my plan B if college doesn't work out LOL

    Great information!
I am currently sketching out for my 3d model which will be custom made in blender, just not sure on how to add the bones and set up tracking.
I personally love the look of 2d but dislike the limitations on what you can do with it in terms of movement which is why I opt for 3d which I can build by myself already.
What tracking would be sufficient for 3dVtubing? I don't wish to have a VR headset on while in play because of how annoying it can get.
I'm assuming any trackers can work with it such as SlimeVR and other trackers of that sort?
Anyways thanks for the information on this topic, really cleared up some things I was incorrect about in terms of creating models and rigging them.

I tried making a VRC avatar with VRoid and Blender. It went really well in VRoid but if you wanted to modify your character with stuff that isn’t in VRoid you would have to edit the model in Blender. I don’t remember what they were called, but there were some plugins I had downloaded that helped with editing the VRoid model’s features. Nothing in Unity wanted to work so I never got the avatar made but the modeling wasn’t super difficult.

Hi! I got a 3d vroid model for vtubing, and I did end up asking 2 different ppl to make her! my “papa” made me clothes and hair but I preferred the face texture style of another artist so I asked her to do exactly that! I couldn’t have been happier with what I got! I’m also an artist and am currently working on a 2.0 character sheet, to make a live2D model myself! Hoping to get motivated soon 🥹
Hope this helps too, you can ask multiple ppl for a commission if you like people for their different skills and can’t decide like I did XD
