    You did a great job. Got a warm spot in my heart for the old dusters as I was in a duster unit back in the late 70s.

    You make it look so easy and effortless. Kudos on sticking with the kit supplied rubber band tracks and actual pulling them off to look good!

    Rick, looks great. One suggestion. Although I never worked on one of those beasts, over there (I was in M113's), I believe those big air filter tubs would have been cleaned, constantly, especially under the dusty conditions. A good NCO would have made sure... And you're so good at representing crew movements on your vehicles. Those things should show evidence... Ralph

    Hey Rick - what a great video. Apologies if i missed it but can you confirm all the oil colours you used on your pallet there? I saw the Abt 502 dust, olive green…but missed the others. Cheers, Nick.

    • @RickLawlerPropaganda
      @RickLawlerPropaganda  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Oh, let's see. I also used Light Grey (kind of a bluish color), Faded Green, Shadow Brown, Ghost Grey and I think I added Ochre towards the end to enhance some of the fuel stains. The earth colors are for the "environmental" weathering, the greens and such are to add fading or interest to the base color.

    Outstanding work.
    When you were blending the dusty oil paints, did you use a completely dry brush, or damp with thinner?

    • @steveminla
      @steveminla Před 11 měsíci

      I believe he applies the oils with a damp brush and blends them out with a dry brush. While he's blending, he wipes off excess oil (that accumulates in the dry brush...filling up with oil as he goes along) on a paper towel to remove excess oil...then blends more, till he gets the look he wants. It's about impossible to get a nice blend while the oils are wet.

    • @RickLawlerPropaganda
      @RickLawlerPropaganda  Před 11 měsíci

      So, what I'm looking for when using the oils is the "sweet spot", the point when the oils have leached out the linseed onto the cardboard, and the consistency of the paints are something like butter. At this point just use the oils off of the palette, and then blend with a soft, dry brush. Now...this can change both over time, and upon the desired effects. Over time, the oils will become more dry and so it will be necessary to add a bit of thinner to the brush, mix it into the paints to regain the butter. Secondly, thinners are used to create different effects...for instance...if I want a light, dusty effect I will thin the oils to something like a wash, or I can blend using a moist brush to created different types of blends. It really isn't difficult, just takes a bit of practice and it all really becomes second nature.
