Wu's ranking was #1869 on 3/20/2022 and now #58 on 2/12/2023. A jump of 1811 places in 11 months! WOW!

He showed great champion qualities: calm, composed, funny, and a brutal forehand with great action AND margin. Hope to see him in the Top 10 sooner than later.
Even Isner was laughing during the winner's speech when he talked about overcoming 100 aces and the benefits to charity for each ace. He gave himself credit for not moving when being aced. Great sense of humor!đ

Very happy to see Asian men winning titles in 2023. Soonwoo kwon won Adeline open which was a surprise and now Wu winning this title gives Asian men's tennis something to look forward to.

What a performance! Both players played magnificently, itâs a shame there had to be only one winner. Congrats to Wu for making history. I was impressed with what Isner had to say about Wu after the match, it wasnât an easy one to swallow after such a close match - impeccable sportsmanship!
Isner laughed when Wu mentioned being aced 100 times and said he helped by not moving. Charity benefited from each ace.

I have to agree with you on that. His speech was very gracious which is a sharp contrast to Fritzâs awkward handshake. This is what I love about tennis. Most of the top players are decent human being,showing respect of the opponent and fans. Wu needs to learn that from Isner!
I was not surprised by his title win. I watched his first match and immediately considered him a contender for the championship. He has all of the strokes and a level head. Congrats.

Wu's got the same cold blooded mentality seen in the greats. Never fazed on big points, saves break points, set points, championship points. Makes spectacular shots routinely. Keep in mind he made it to Round 3 of the US open and only lost to a World No. 1 Medvedev. Give him a bit of momentum and tour match experience and he'll scale even greater heights.
His form was amazing in this tournament.

Wu's court positioning and footwork are very much like Djokovic. I'd be thrilled to watch him play Djokovic on hard court.

John Isner must be one of the most pleasant men ever to play professional tennis... Great sportmanship, always, winning or losing... Definitey, a great, decent human being... And possible the best server of all times... Regarding Yibing Wu (Wu being the family name, Yibing the first name), what a nice surprice he is... Cool, great hands, fast, tenacious, calm under pressure, mature despite his young age, and an absolutely respect for the rivals and the public... Not grunting, not arrogant fist clenching after every point won... Not anguish after an important point is lost, not self-incriminations, no talking rubish to his team, not âdrama queenâ displays âalla Kyrgiosâ... He is the complete package... This ATP title, the first for him and his country, its only the first of many.. I can see lots of future titles for him, even Grand Slams... Nancy Pelosi is going to have a few nervous breakdowns!

Michael Chang was born in New Jersey to Taiwanese parents. He's only ever had the US citizenship, he never had anything to do with China.
Yibing Wu got all the moves and skills. I'm a big fan now and will follow him closely. this video looks like he played all the players in one single game, since he had the same color shirt on the whole time. lol.

I noticed during the match, Wu's footwork and slide were similar to djokovich, his forehand was more like nadal with the spring ball, and the mind set like Federer (no noise during the match and kept calm).

Congrats to him. It's amazing how athletes just spend their entire time (some even since childhood) to perfect themselves to peak condition required for their sports.
The most regrettable thing is that the video deleted him in Chinese to thank the Chinese people from all over the world who came to cheer for him.
Great news for tennis in general. A tennis star from China could grow the game enormously. With over 1.4K million population the potential for growth is huge. It was about time a player from China won an ATP title. And this Wu came here to stay, he's a great player.

Actually to play tennis in China, you need to have a rich dad. That's why China is still behind in tennis because the pool of players is less. Game like table tennis and badminton, they are world class.

This is absolutely a good sign. From my conversations with young people from China, I sensed they are proud of their home country China. They are proud to be Chinese. With their dominance in other racket sports, it's quite unbelievable how long it takes for China to be serious contenders in men tennis. Wouldn't be surprised to see more of them coming to the top tier and challenging for ATP 1000's and above.

I observe all the matches he play in this tournament,and sum up. His movement and flexible, pace, acceleration, footwork like alex de minaur and anticipation and shot control like janik sinner. Still have ways to improve on shot selection but he's a lot of potential to become top 10 in this era

Not only does he hit absolute bombs, he is incredibly fast.
Came out of nowhere, reminds me of a young Federer, his ability to pull technical shots and on the run full swinging, footwork, he made the field look silly and even beat the big man in a tiebreak.
He was junior champion at 2017 US Open (both singles and doubles), then got injured. The injury bothered him for quite some time, just fully recovered over a year ago.

I think he is as fast as Roger Federer. He makes no error and can strike many times continuously until a winner. He defense also turns into offense just like any great players. We will see him more often. Hopefully he persists like any other great player.

My god, Wu has something that I thought was lost when Fed retired, magic. What a wicked angle forehand. He uses that to set up a killer down the line winner. I hope he gets to majors final cos this might be the antidote to Joker's snoozefest.
