      No, it was Dodges first win since the 70s. They left NASCAR for awhile & returned in 2001

      It's easy for people to forget that Sterling was the teammate to Kenny Irwin Jr who lost his life in Loudon in July 2000.

    The thing about Sterling was that he was approachable. He was a great mechanic and driver! His Dad was the same way. Great people, great family! One of my favorite drivers and as a person! 😉😁🏎️

    Nascar NEEDS more personality within their driver stable like Sterling Marlin. The Daytona fender pull moment is one nascar fans who were watching the race live will likely never forget. I really believe had he not wrecked at Kansas that 02 season he would've won the cup. Last time I saw him was on Dale Jr's podcast and I was honestly kinda in shock. The parkinsons has really had a major affect on him.

      I saw that too, couldn't believe how much Parkinsons had effected him. My uncle drove at local short tracks in the north east and also had Parkinson's disease

    Sterling Marlin may not have won the championship and won only several races, but he was certainly one of the best in the 90's and early 2000's. Practically a legend since he pulled of the rare feat of back to back Daytona 500 wins. I didn't support him when he drove with the beer sponsor, so I was glad when he got into the #14 Waste Management car. I was unaware that he was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Mr. Marlin, if you're reading this, I just prayed for you. If you need help with anything involving it and even complete healing from it, keep your faith in the Lord Jesus and trust in Him. As the prophet Isaiah said of Him, "... the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5). My best wishes to you sir.

    I built the exhaust system with Dr Gas design in 1995 not 1994

  • @4fanintexas
    @4fanintexas Před 5 měsíci

    One correction... the unique-sounding exhaust was in 1995, not 1994. In 1994, when Sterling won his first Daytona 500, the car sounded just like all the others. And remember, Morgan-McClure Motorsports was wicked fast at Daytona and Talladega well before they used the Dr. Gas x-pipe exhaust. They always ran well there with Rick Wilson in the late 80s and won a lot of plate races with Ernie Irvan including the 1991 Daytona 500. Ernie also set the race record for a 500-mile race at Talladega in 1992 and almost lapped the field in the process (only 3 or 4 cars finished on the lead lap). MMM won at least 1 plate race every year from 1991-1996. Sterling was good at the plate tracks no matter what car he was in, but when he got with Morgan-McClure, they dominated the plate tracks... particularly in 1995-96. Great times.

    Cool video. I was watching that race. Watched a video on that exhaust from Morgan McClure.
    Remember watching him get out of the car pulling in the right front fender at Daytona

    How can you talk about Sterling’s career and not mention his involvement in the L.W. Wright story?!?!

  • @EnvirotekCleaningSystems
    @EnvirotekCleaningSystems Před 6 měsíci

    Sterling was as great as DE Sr., the undisputed greatest, at plate races. He was ALWAYS at the front no matter who owned the car or who was the engine builder or crew chief. That is skill. Put him in the right car and he could win those races.

    NASCAR: Let's celebrate the team that figured out a new legal exhaust that won them two 500s.
    Also NASCAR: We're gonna fine teams 100 driver and owner points as well as take away driver wins for putting stickers on their cars.

      @@susanwahl6322 our heart felt thoughts went out to Kenny Schrader and Sterling Marlin after the 2001 Daytona 500. Well, most of us who realized that it was a racing incident. I believe that their memories of what happened were more felt than anyone else's entering Rockingham spring 2001.

    That exhaust definitely had to give him more then just 5 extra horsepower…I’d say anywhere between 13-20 depending on conditions
