Boom Town there's no such thing. A "fad" is a short lived trend. Yoyos aren't a "fad". Spinners are a fad because it was very short lived. Yoyo's were a fad, but now they're not since they're not really popular

How is this still different with 3A type competition?
3A yo-yos are usually butterfly shaped / unresponsive, and 3A tricks often involve landing the yo-yos on the string while sleeping. 2A yo-yos are more narrow / responsive, do not sleep as long, and 2A tricks are based around “looping” style tricks rather than tricks where the yo-yo lands on the string.
