  • Formula 4 is a spray wax developed by Superior Products. It’s meant mostly for use in automatic car washes, but has been used by mobile detailers as a way to help prevent water spots when detailing in direct sunlight. While I’m not too sure I agree with how well it reduces water spots I do think this is a very good product for people who want a quick detail.

I would say that contrary to what marketing says, there is no hydrophobic product that will prevent water spotting. I'd say they increase water spotting. Most dishwasher rinse agents are actually hydrophilic and cause the water to sheet off completely. When you have a hydrophobic surface you end up concentrating some of the water that is left and leave the spots. Where the waxes do help is preventing the water spot from etching the clear. If you want to avoid water spots when you dry I would say DI rinse is the best way. Otherwise, a spray bottle made with distilled or DI water and a rinseless wash or waterless wash like Armour Adapt as a drying aid is about as good as you can get.
This stuff will make the water spot easier to remove, but I don't think it can truly prevent water spotting for any water that remains on the surface.

I just got a gallon of it this past week. I have to try it to see if does helps with water spots with summer heat.

Let me know if it works. During the summer it gets to between 105-115. I’m not brave enough to try it out myself. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Can’t stand using this stuff, not a good experience at all. Left nasty film on my vehicle, proper dilution used as well.

That’s really surprising. I’ve never had any problems with it. Maybe it doesn’t react well when it’s used as a topper on an existing coating? Thanks for watching!

suggestion: after wash but before rinse: add 3 oz formula 4 to 15 oz water in foam canon. Spray down car and then rinse and dry. No hard water spots and no residue, even in the florida sun.

I’m going to try this. Thanks for the suggestion!
