- In this episode of Combat Approved we’ll show the IL-76 as no one has ever seen it before. The military transport aircraft will be transformed into a bomber and for the first time will conduct a truly sniper bombing raid. During its career, this aircraft has set 25 world records, including records for speed, altitude, as well as for group and single jumps. Many of them are still unbeaten. Target Bombing will be a new record for a heavy airplane. For the first time on the air the viewers of the Zvezda TV will see how they prepare the IL-76 for this unusual mission, learn what ammunition it can drop and how accurately it does it. In addition, for the first time, journalists of Combat Approved will personally open fire from the GSh-23 aviation gun during the flight of the IL-76 and hit a ground target in the form of a military convoy.

I think they were just practice bombs here, not much of an explosion but a good amount of smoke to indicate the impact location. If needed, they could probably use the full range of FAB, OFAB, etc. bombs up to 500kg like they said.

Just the looks at wings' position on this plane makes it easier to visualize and understand how in fact the wings are pressurizing air to carry weight under it, in this case the whole aircraft
C5, C17, C130, A400 etc. all military transport planes have wings on top, the reason? So they can operate on any runway

@@GloopSerious-nt9dv to expand on Dai's comments, the advantage of high wings for rough field operations is in the fact that the engines are placed higher over the ground, so they are less prone to ingesting debris strewn on the runway.
The Hits are great (old school), but the Gefest is amazing, and it's done to have the capability of using the oldest (dumb bombs) bombs with the precision of a guided one!
The results in Syria were impressive! And thinking about the cost of one guided against numerous unguided it gets a clear image of the tech 👍🏻

Inefficient manned system and of zero effect in modern battlefield. Any aircraft descending that low will be seen or heard and shot down before it get within range of the convoy . A laser system or an unmanned optical gun system shooting timed shell fragments to fight incoming anti aircraft missile is better use of that space.
@@du5707 They have hard points you can bet they will carry air to air missiles as a suprise. The rear guns are enough to keep aircraft at least 1 to 2 km off its tail enough to take out an armed helicopter. Or pay out on ground fire during take off and landing.

Put some targeting AI on that rear gun... And flak shells... When you put that bomb targeting thingie... Plus some point defense and you're good to go... Submunition bombing surprise... Then pick of leftovers with precision bombs and guns... And then drop paratroopers... With the leaflet drop to the enemy that says FU...

Two have been shot down now, so many loss of life and how horrible for the families fo the crew and the men who were aboard them and what a shame for aircraft enthusiasts as well who are somewhat the family of the non-living aircraft after her crew.
When I watched this before I did not fully appreciate what the designers of this plane knew: that she would be flying without arms into war where the plane would be a attractive target. Now it is not doubt that the il76 is a warplane if there ever was before.
What a tragedy putin's decisions have created everywhere. God bless the families of those who die in needless war.

@@user-dp4ok9ox5w well i know that the target will be destroyed even the bomb misses 20 meters away because of the sheer power of the real bombs. Well the IL-76 is never been a bomber by design its a military cargo plane but the Russians is using it as a makeshift bomber and thats quite amazing. They should equip it with GLONAS satelite bomb targeting system like the other Russian bombers that turns even the dumb bombs like smart bombs with pinpoint accuracy, the Russians used this systems in Syria with smart and dumb bombs, cruise missiles (kalibr) simultaneously.
