Best goal of all time. One thing people don't look at when considering great goals is pressure! Pressure is the reason why most champions league finals are usually boring. Very high stakes involved and nobody wants to be the player to try something different and screw up when the whole world is watching! Maradona did that in a world cup quarter final against at the time the war enemies. Imagine if the got tackled and England broke away and scored? He'd have been crucified back in Argentina and no legend will have come of him. No world cup. So for me to score a goal like that under such pressure makes it the best of all time...

As a kid watching Maradona was miraculous. He made it look effortless. That’s the key to genius. Something else takes over. He also transcended the sport like few do. What I also loved about Diego's wonderful goal was the raw passion in the commentator's voice. You know that this goal, this World Cup victory over England meant everything to him and his fellow Argentinians....
It happened immediately after a horrific foul on Hoddle so it should have been disallowed. England were actually the better team in that match and would have won it with a decent referee.
Actually, Baresi and Massaro missed their penalties (while Brazil missed just one penalty, by Marcio Santos if I remember correctly), so Baggio's mistake was not a really decisive one.
Absolutely incredible compilation... I'd just add 5 more to update it (with 2018 in mind) to TOP 25: 2002 - Rivaldo's goal against Belgium (similar to James's) 2006 - Spanish one-touch combination vs Ukraine by Fernando Torres 2010 - Diego Forlan's volley vs Germany (any of his 2010 goals would actually be a worthy addition) 2018 - Benjamin Pavard's volley 2018 - Stones's finishing of a remarkable free kick signal (England vs Panama)

Some of the greatest goals were by Germany and where was Tardelli's iconic world cup final goal? Diego is number 1 but a Saudi player scores a similar solo goal and not in the top 10 ! Pele was good but over hyped.
@@antoniosilvestro2494 correct. Some of our players scored quite some good goals.

Saw all of these on TV directly when scored save the Pelè goal (that my uncle saw from the pitch with mixed Swedish emotions). The goal I miss is the Lato-Boniek goal. Great run by Lato, rock hard pass backwards and a rock hard scorcher on a ball zooming against him. The Bergkamp and Maradona goal maybe better, but the Maradona goal will always be tarnished by the foul just before. And Maradona made goals I liked better in other games in that WC. No player was ever more dominant in a WC, sorry Mbappe, Messi.
I lasted till the end, even though I pretty much knew what was going to be #1. The sound lasted until about #16 like you said. Truly no need for that soundtrack over the top of the video.

It was a well done video! Great goals being chosen. No doubt about the number one goal. I still think Diego's second goal against Belgium in 86' should be there, top 3 or 4.
Maradona's goal is iconic not just for how it was done or because it was at a wc quarterfinal but because it was against England only 3 years after the Malvinas/Facklands war so it was really special for Argentina at the time. Also a fun fact, the guy who narrates his goal is not even argentinian, he is from Uruguay. I find that weird since he delivered it with so much passion and patriotism.

Great goals. Shame about the music
Baggio was awesome . It still haunts how he missed that decisive penalty against Brazil in 1994
The pressure on him was immense. I really worry the same thing could happen to Leo tomorrow night. But I hope not.
not just baggio, also baresi...
@@ass640As cool as a polar bears back
Actually, Baresi and Massaro missed their penalties (while Brazil missed just one penalty, by Marcio Santos if I remember correctly), so Baggio's mistake was not a really decisive one.
Absolutely incredible compilation... I'd just add 5 more to update it (with 2018 in mind) to TOP 25:
2002 - Rivaldo's goal against Belgium (similar to James's)
2006 - Spanish one-touch combination vs Ukraine by Fernando Torres
2010 - Diego Forlan's volley vs Germany (any of his 2010 goals would actually be a worthy addition)
2018 - Benjamin Pavard's volley
2018 - Stones's finishing of a remarkable free kick signal (England vs Panama)

Some of the greatest goals were by Germany and where was Tardelli's iconic world cup final goal? Diego is number 1 but a Saudi player scores a similar solo goal and not in the top 10 ! Pele was good but over hyped.
@@antoniosilvestro2494 over hyped lol
@@antoniosilvestro2494 correct. Some of our players scored quite some good goals. The goal in the final of 2014 for example might not have been the very best but still very good though and technically very difficult to do. Or Fischers backflip of 1982. But these videos are always dividing peoples opinions. Anyway, good goals though.
@@antoniosilvestro2494 what Saudi player made a solo run goal, against England -or a top national team- in a QF of the World Cup?

To make the whole country into one great, clenched fist, shaking, shouting for Argentina? . . . Diegoal! Diegoal! Diego Armando Maradona!
