- In this video, I will be sharing my thoughts about the new trailer. My feelings are mostly positive, and I'm very excited! For right now, its a bit too early for me to jump the gun and say that I don't like the story, so I take that back. I think My initial reaction was just a bit too critical. I'm actually just very excited.
Honestly, this whole thing about the new game makes me rather anxious. Whenever there's new news I feel little pins and needles in my skin, mostly just because it means I have new content to stay on top of (and trust me, there is already a lot.) But I will be trying my best to take It slow after I upload this video. Maybe this is all my flu brain speaking. As yet again, I'm sick!!

I am actually hoping for some co-op/multiplayer reveal. I played the OG Combat Simulator for thousands of hours as a kid. Maybe then they can show off a bunch of cool weapons.

I think this is the natural progression for a series like Perfect Dark. Immersive Sims are usually some of the least understood but easily some of the best games to ever come out.

What's cool is that they seemed to have added the parkour and take down mechanics that they wanted to add to the planned Perfect Dark sequel that never happened, i think it was called "Perfect Dark Core"

This is actually a lot of what I pictured and honestly wanted from a new perfect dark game, with modern expectations in check.
I would love a kitchen sink like the OG. Counter operative, an HQ to run around with, and an arsenal of cool weapons. They just don’t make em like they used to
Story is kinda whatever for me. I don’t think it’s ever been perfect throughout the series, that certainly doesn’t justify any shortcomings from the new one but I’m not going in too attached to the story. Especially after reading what places the canceled games went.
A few more things about the story. Continuity-wise, it’s a reboot, but I’m sure that doesn’t make it any better Jo is with DataDyne for some. It’s likely just a retelling of the story from Haze that I see coming from a mile away. Also, the original trailer established that this game dates places during or after the 2060s/2070s I believe
Have you considered that the mysterious recruiter voice might not be Carrington OR Jonathan but might instead be [holds up hands] ALIENS

First you, then the cat... Cuteness overload.
I imagine this rebooted storyline will start out as Jo working for dataDyne, as a top field agent. She's sent to deal with Carrington, who has been investigating the illegal and immoral actions taken by the global corporation. They've created the false narrative that he is a terrorist, and must be dealt with. Joanna will come to realize the truth, ultimately siding with Carrington and his team.
Each of the previous three games (N64, GameBoy and Zero) all kinda do their own thing, so I wouldn't be surprised if background story and characters see further changing. Either way, it is nice to see it progressing, and hopefully will live up to its potential.

on working with DataDyne - since the gameplay seems to be leaning more toward Deus Ex & Dishonoured - could be they'll do a similar twist with Joanna like they did in Deus Ex where you start out working for UNATCO & the 1st act is all about you investigating & peeling away the mask of your own organisation before you cut & run.
That would be so cool!! I still have to play Deus Ex!!!
Yay, I was waiting for this! As soon as I saw the announcement trailer, I knew I needed to hear your thoughts! I'm happy to see that they are renewing the series after so long! I definitely think I like her style a little more in PDZ but I am still really excited to see what they create!

Jo's character model is based on a real world model: 'Elissa Bibaud'.
While a lot of models do tend to have rather strong jawlines...I think it could be the lighting and angle in the trailer, a bit??
I think the image of Jo on the Steam page looks a lot better and made me appreciate the approach a bit more.
There's a good intensity to the look that fits her megacorp, private military, espionage work.
I still want that pixie look of the N64, but it's not too bad. She's British again, so win.
Do I want more of a 1990's 'La Femme Nikita'? (pixie with a desert eagle) or GITs Makoto Kusanagi...yeah, but this works.
(Jo does shoot someone through a wall like in that restaurant scene from that movie! Which is a good sign? haha. Some of the environmental destruction is a good touch too.)
Is that Dr. Carrington in the trailer? Is he not Scottish anymore? Upsetting if so.
A subtle thing in the trailer was when that flash/EMP grenade goes off in the room, the digital displays and lights go out. :D
I'm really hoping for a dynamic lighting system like what was originally going to be a gameplay mechanic in the N64 games (yet, they still kept the dynamic lights which is kinda crazy for the console). Some kinda stealth gameplay could be interesting -- if they did lean into some Deus Ex inspiration.
I'm not as familiar with the lore of Zero. I prefered the more nebulous "James Bond" approach of the N64 game. As you say, dataDyne killed Jo's father, weird for her to be working for them. It is a reboot. Could see her father's death being some kind of cover up by dD? Maybe even a leverage device like: "We will help you find who did it". How much of the first two games lore they will be using is all speculation. Considering much of the lore is a bit dated.
I'm assuming the set up is going to be Jo working for the criminally underhanded dataDyne and joining the Carrington institute once she finds out 'The Truth™"? (Aliens, sentient AI's, lfather's death, realizing Carrington has probably been smeared by dD in the public/political eye, Dimensional portal tech??, etc)
A more gritty take could be interesting. Private military / research / megacorp espionage / buying politicians -- all that fun stuff.

I had similar feelings about the game. I’m very happy it is actually coming out, but I kind of didn’t like how Joanna looked as I really liked the more stylized look from Zero. But I have high hopes that the game will be great!

I don't know much about Perfect Dark myself but seeing the game trailer def made me excited. It looks like the kind game that'll scratch an itch when it comes to the spy tech we se.
I'm a big Rare fan so I might even have to look into maybe scoring a copy myself before the prices of the N64 version skyrocket

The fact that Joanna worked for the Carrington Institute in the first two games makes it quite likely that in this one, she'll start off working for DataDyne under the false notion that she's on the good side, before switching over at some point.
Yes, that's the impression I get from the trailer. Just reading between the lines from her and Carrington's dialogue in the trailer. She realizes at some point she's working for the wrong people. Nothing to worry about. Some people don't think Aliens will be in the game and I disagree with that as well. Scope the end of the trailer. Definitely something alien going on there.
@@U_N_I_F_I_E_D Needless to say, if aliens, particularly the Maians, were to be in the game, it'd be HIGHLY unlikely for them to be portrayed in similar ways as those in the N64 version, as they'd be far too outdated for today's times. In other words, no gray, bipedal beings with proportionally giant heads, no flying saucers, and no Area 51.
We don't know if Carrington is a clone, though! A clone! But I can't make accusations like that without evidence.. 😂
And, what if Eden Tech was an umbrella corporation started by dataDyne? Then that dataDyne had to distance itself from Eden Tech because of.. reasons.
So, Joanna Dark has to go a bit rogue like Sam Fisher in Conviction.
Also, they're holding their summit at "The Orchid" which is of course a throwback to Orchid from Killer Instinct.
Orchid (from KI) was a secret agent (I believe) as well.
Joanna and Orchid and, why not.. Velvet Dark combine forces to take down Eden Tech, restore faith in the Carrington Institute, prove Carrington Institute was not involved in a radioactive device while Dr. Doak is trying to understand what being an A.I. truly means.. 😂

Well if in a rough state or in trouble means, that they show actual gameplay of a game let games be in a rough state or in trouble everytime.
And i´m glad that they have shown gameplay, it just shows that the development is going pretty well despite all those rumors.
Maybe Rare and XBOX will pitch the idea, of a Banjo Kazooie 3 to The Innitiative next.

It's My head canon they made this game solely because of your sole and passionate love for Perfect Dark.
I realize it's not made by any of the original people who made the original PD but I'm still excited to see a new game coming out, and I hope it's good. I replayed the original game on steam deck last year with gyro controls and it really holds up.
I respect your opinion. Loved listening to your thoughts even if i disagree. The story makes us feel like one way but this could just be Joanna early on being naive and as she learns the truth we will see her change sides. It's definately a bait and switch.

im a massive fan of shock type games (system shock, bioshock, prey, deus ex) and this looks like its going to be one of them and honestly. i cant think of a more perfect genre to go for. take the series known for its witty spy protagonist who uses tons of gadgets to solve her goals, and i think a shock type (fps/rpg hybrid immersive sim) game is the perfect way to get across the spy theme
Because of this trailer I literally started playing through the first Perfect Dark game last night and I plan on playing Perfect Dark Zero after that. Also, congrats on 2K subs!

The game looks promising and Joanna looks better than I was expecting considering Fable lol. I too love the chosen accent and setting. I can’t get enough of that British voice style.

My first introduction to Perfect Dark was a throwaway line in a Vinesauce stream couple months ago, and now I'm here pretty hooked on it. Hope this new entry boosts the series, it really is a gem
This is either a story that takes place before perfect dark zero or after perfect dark zero and before the N64 game. The only reason I say it could take place after perfect dark zero and before the N64 game is because of her hair. She’s chopped it off since perfect dark zero and we know in the N64 game, she has very short hair. I’ve always liked the gadgets in these games and I hope I’m not disappointed in them and I really hope my favorite gun. The super dragon is in the game. I’m extremely happy that they brought back Joanna‘s British accent. I’m really pumped for this game and I’ve been waiting for this to come out for YEARS.

After I made the video I've seen a few people saying that, if that's the case than I'm cool with the new lore, and maybe a bit glad that I don't have to go back and re-do a whole 20 page essay on the lore of the series haha

@@foslerfer Nah, non official is the best kind of emulation x) Sadly, I've been moving everything over to Linux, but Xenia doesn't have a Native Linux version atm.
I tried running it through Wine/Proton, (not sure if you know what any of this means, lol), but I couldn't get Perfect Dark Zero to run at a playable rate.
I'll have to try it next time I boot into Windows.

GREAT Analysis so HYPE For Perfect Dark. What's with no Blood or Gore at all? Even The N64 Game was more violent.
I think the face model looks a little off lol 😂 Kinda wish they would have just used the original CG render design they made from 2000. But overall, I think she looks better than most designs I've seen from other games characters. The gameplay looks pretty damn solid! Love the traversal / parkour system, the gun fu hand to hand combat looks smooth, good animations and so forth. I hope we see the Skedar and Maians return and many other things we loved from the original! As an OG Perfect Dark fan who played this back when it first released in 2000 at 8 years old.. I'm just happy the game is real and back into the gaming sphere! 👍🏼🖤

if they did it right, Joanna could evolve from merely being female James Bond, to become female Big Boss, if we take PDZ as the Snake Eater equivalent.
I'm really surprised to find a PD CZcamsr. I'm curious how you got so into it. Judging by your hair and age, I'd guess PD Zero when you were really young might have been a big part of it? The hair is cool btw.
The big thing to remember about the game is it's a complete reboot. It won't be a continuation of any previous PD media. My thoughts on the story are that we'll start working for DataDyne, under the impression Carrington is a villain before finding out it's DataDyne that are the bad guys and we start working with Carrington. A whole new origin for Joanna.
The voice saying they could use someone with Joanna skills is definitely Carrington because it's the same voice as when Carrington is talking to her in the previous scene. What I want to know is who, from DataDyne, is giving Joanna her commands at the start of the trailer. It doesn't sound quite human so I'm going with Mr Blonde, or a new character in a similar vain. I will admit, as a Scotswoman, I am a little sad Carrington is no longer Scottish but I'm just over the moon we have a new PD at all.
The game is confirmed to take place in Cairo but I'd be very surprised if we didn't go elsewhere and they just aren't telling us for story reasons.
I really like Joannas new look. It's mostly PD64 with a tiny splash of Zero. Personally, I'd rather it had no Zero in it at all as I really don't like what they did to her design in Zero. I'm a huge fan of 64, playing it since launch and I've tried to play Zero multiple times and I just can't enjoy it. I really really tried.
Edit: Oh, and Cassandras last name is pronounced like "Da-vreese" like saying "Da geese" but a vr instead of a g.
Great video! Yeah, I agree with you. Not a fan of the face, it's not really a problem it's just the jawline to me really is too large even the model they modeled her after doesn't have that large of a jaw, some are even saying Jaw-anna, Jay Leno, Crimson Chin and comparing her to Buzz Lightyear lol, and Jo needs to have some makeup. But do like the music and the parkour! And the gadgets. Very exciting. Not sure if that voice was Carrington or not. I hope that he has his Scottish accent still. I think her new voice is indeed very badass. I'm hoping the middle east expands into more area missions later and this is just the beginning. I do like how it has classic objective based gameplay and we can choose how we proceed,

Pretty refreshing to see the comeback of the secondary fuctions for guns, in this case, that pistol (heard it was a dataDyne pistol instead of the P9P or Falcon 2) used as a taser and normal gun. It also feels like they'll go back to the alien stuff as the first game did, maybe mixed with something like PDZ did with Shang-Li? Apparently their main focus was to mix both the last games into this reboot. I have high hopes for the gameplay on the missions and the multiplayer (this considering everybody likes to talk well about how fun was the multi on PD and PDZ), as long as it's not filled in DLCs, skins and paid 2 win stuff.
Also, considering the trailer had no release date means the game still needs to be worked on, hope the final product is way better than what we all saw. Surprised a lot of people couldn't recognize the game until the words "Carrington", "Dark", and the title of the game showed up. They could take what people think of this trailer to fix one or two things around.
It was good to see those graphics, but all I care is the gameplay, hope it's as good as how I enjoyed the previous games. Also hoping they release this game in a physical copy, still remember getting my first copy of PDZ when I got a 360

Not going to lie, the fact that Joanna is working with dataDyne has me wondering, like, whether if this new Perfect Dark game takes place after the events of both, Perfect Dark Zero and the original Perfect Dark game. And I am curious to know what the plot is in that new Perfect Dark game. I also admit that in the new trailer, I love the graphics just to make it look all modernized and stuff.

YES! My playthtough of Cyberpunk 2077 made me absolutely DESIRE a modern Perfect Dark. Yeah I was expecting her to be something between a Kawaii or at least somewhat pretty woman. She aight. She's a strong independant woman and we can work with that. I don't have an Xbox, so if this ends up not going to PC then ya boy is gonna have to cave and go green this generation. 🤣
