Southern Florida/Miami area has a huge real Cuban population and real authentic Cuban food, and they are all real Cubans from Cuba mainly great places to get the real thing without having to visit Cuba.
Austin has a few good ones. CHICHOS is great. Cuba 512 is great as well. Cuban Grocery Company has some of the best fresh baked Cuban bread I’ve had in a very long time. Just like Miami- Muy Delicious!
Family run businesses are absolutely essential for authenticity of their particular country of origin. I’m in total agreement with you on that.

I usually go to Havana Express on Trop when I'm in town. Good food and reasonable prices, plus a drive-thru if you're in a hurry.

In California, Italian restaurants are staffed with Mexicans.
The ambience is unauthentic.
In Seattle, it's $30 for 8 tacos and a bottle of coke from a taco truck, and the tacos are dry and bland.
