Man, that's gotta be an intimidating process the first time you work through it
Such an awesome video - bravo. I love how the watchmaker is wearing a Speedy on a true Bond NATO. Badass - love it!!
6:45 "Service is truly the only time you can deliver luxury." Wow....what a profound statement. Too bad America has moved from a manufacturing economy to a Service economy and almost nobody seems to understand what this gentleman so eloquently put.
I agree with you , the guy seems to doesn't know what he's talking about that's sad because he's working maybe in one of the most coolest sector in luxury business
soon the pool boy will start to charge 5-10% of total cost of the build for maintenance too
Yep. Most people today want quick and easy money instead of creating things.
@@airgregone Did you misunderstand? I think the point is that this kind of extra attention to detail is what constitutes truly high quality service--where you go the extra mile for your customer (luxury).
Wow, a sneeze would be tragic!
I once did this to my Omega Speedy, I had six parts leftover so I sold them on Ebay.
This video put a huge smile on my face. My father was a watchmaker (FBHI) for over 47 years, growing up and visiting the workshop and watching him work, gave me an appreciation for watches which sadly, my generation seems to have forgotten. Great video/channel. Keep it up!!!
What an amazing video. Thank you so much for the knowledge. Taking it apart and putting it back together you must of done maintenance on millions of watches. Truly amazing.
What a wonderful video! Thanks for sharing :) Amazing to watch an artist at work!
Hodinkee are miles ahead of the competition when it comes to horology on CZcams, keep it up!
+12sin8 As much as I like Hodinkee, you should check out the watchuwant channel.
+logwind yeah I subscribe to them but that's a completely different show with a much reduced production value. The only people in league with hodinkee in my opinion are thewatchestv.
Not really. Look up the 'watch repair channel'. Which not only has excellent watchmaking, but also excellent detailed video footage. Not as flashy, but a lot more where it counts.
doesn't get more antiquated than this-amazing
In a world where everything seems disposable, and there's no time to reflect, this is so enjoyable to see.
Very impressive seeing this being done. It all looks so complicated. I bet you were a beast at Lego as a child!
What a wonderful job. Skilled workers like you are the salt of the earth. Keep up your skill and best wishes. I love my Speedmaster X-33 even though it is a quartz movement for space travel. I’ll upgrade to the Skywalker soon.
One word for this guy: Amazing.
Excellent stuff, a very steady hand indeed.
I like the owners attitude and honesty.great company
I really hope that he is very well compensated. His level of skill is inspirational.
Just got mine yesterday ...It's a great watch
Fascinating stuff. Love it.
truly amazing, great video
Absolutely amazing. I'd hate to have to remember what and where everything goes haha
Loved the video!
Nice work! Best to you!
Great movement to work on !
Beautiful video, so many parts how do you know what sequence to reassemble the watch? I own a Planet Ocean Master Chronometer Co Axial myself 👌😊
Love this job, alone working fixing things precious to people and making them happy...
I'm always appalled at the level of knowledge these guys have. Being able to identify the job of a single gear out of a pile is quite impressive.
It's because we're trained to assemble and disassemble the same mechanism hundreds of times before you can work on an actual customer's watch.
So funny - I go to Manfredi all the time. Crazy that they did this vid there...
Love the video. Is there a source that lists schools for watch repair?
Great Video. Thanks! Being a Speedmaster fan, wearing a Speedy on a Nato while (knowing how) servicing other is my ultimate grail.
Fantastic video
Amazing invention! Man can be very ingenious!
I can watch these videos for hours. I’m a big fan of Omega watches. Seamasters and Speedmasters. Would also like to see a modern co-axial Speedmaster to be serviced.
it would be better if you attached a telescopic lens, so that we see it in details.
More of these please. Great video, a little more closer to the movement as it was serviced would be nicer, beautiful words from the owner and store manager. I’m in awe of the skill of the these professionals that service such complications. I’ve an Aqua Terra & Planet Ocean Master Co-Axial, my wife a Speedy and Planet Ocean Master also - as Omega fans and there being a history of the brand in both families we have gifted our adult kids Master Co-Axial’s Dir their graduations… just one left to purchase when our youngest finishes his studies. Anyone who is shocked when a service after 5/7 years costs so much ( CHF / $ 400 ) just needs to watch this 👌
Great video, wish they focused more on the movement tho. Reminds me I need to send my speedy for servicing soon.
What do they do with the parts which are left over after re-assembly?
I have a 1863 movement love to see and have the parts named , so interesting and an amazing skill .
Just curious, do you not re-oil after cleaning the components? or was it done off camera.
Speedy question: do you like the open back or the closed SS back more
Were any gears oiled in this process? I figured that would be part of the servicing procedure, yeah?
I see more Speedmasters on watchmakers than any other watch. Says a lot about how great these watches are.
I agree, more videos like this!
Really interesting comment from the owner about the importance of after sales service in maintaining the customer base. Guess that's why he's still in business...
The Moonwatch is known for the Chronograph seconds hand not aligning up at the 12 o'clock. Maybe the dial is off and not the hands. Can it be fixed?
I was given a Speedmaster as a BD gift around July 30, 1969, just after Buzz Aldrin wore his on the moon as the first "Moonwatch". Armstrong left his 321 Speedy hanging on the LEM because the LM's internal clock went caput during TLI. My watch came with a plastic type crystal (Hesilite) which would scratch easily. This was because NASA didn't want broken pieces of glass floating in the cabin, in case of a face crack.
However, years later, I sent the watch back to Omega for repairs. Omega upgraded the watch with all new hands and put a newer semi plastic crystal glass face on it. It is still Hesilite, but a more hardened version of it. I read it was common for Omega to do it this way back, rather than to try to maintain the original watch. The back of the watch doesn't have the "moon stamp" on it because the watch was pre-moon landing version. I've since learned that it has the .861 movement, probably one of the first Speedys with the upgraded movement.
Thank you, Sid, below, but I had the watch opened recently to verify the movement. It is the .861 and I edited this comment since I last wrote it. But it was probably one of the first .861's made during this transitional period. Also, Omega gave me a new metal wristband during the refurb. The cost was only about $300 U.S. for the repair back in the 1990's. The original watch cost about $275- $300 U.S. with a twenty percent discount from Bambergers, now Macys.
BTW, It is now known that the Bulova watch was worn by David Scott on Apollo 15 because his "Speedy" broke during the flight. Hum, why did he bring a backup Bulova with him which looked similar to the Speedmaster? All the Speedmasters were the property of NASA, so they are all now in museums, except the first Speedy on the moon worn by Buzz Aldrin. It was "lost in the mail" during shipment.
Wow, the first and only Moon watch worn on the Moon was Buzz Aldrin's Speedmaster, and it was lost in the mail during shipment? And Dave Scott's Bulova Moonwatch recently sold for 1.625 million U.S. on an internet website auction because it was a private watch, not subject to NASA control?
HUM. I wonder who possesses Buzz's Speedmaster on display in their private library next to their Cuban cigar and fine Cognac collection? Just wondering. No conspiracy theory here.
great vid
Damn when did the actor from transformers get into this?
Patience is a virtue. I know there would be so many people that couldn't do the job for the patience and precision mode it needs to endure. Your a gem. but true question, How mad have you got sometimes on doing this and it doesn't go your way?
marvelous!
thank you
I’ve bought 4 watches from Manfredi over the past ten years (2 Glashutte’s, one Omega and one Vacheron). They are the BEST.
very interesting
Nice job
No disassembly and oiling of the mainspring?
Hell yea my dude Harry
Interesting project but where's the overhead camera so we can see what's happening?
Gran reloj y acabados magnificos es un mito poseo uno y estoy muy contento
What an awesome occupation👍
Hi , I would like to ask you a question which is very important for me?
1861 movement is Rhodium plated.
Do you know if there is any gold part or writing in that movement ?
(for religious purposes)
The yellow parts or writings are not containing gold? it is right?
Thank you in advance for the answers.
What watch is Harry wearing??
people want more videos like this. I say more videos in all aspects.
Now where does this last screw go..?
I bought one of these in Genera in 1969 (the year of the Moon walk) and am still wearing it. The other day, some folks asked me "how do you wind a watch?" (They had never seen a watch that needed winding!)
Damn what a time to be alive, i'm turning 18 this Christmas and i'm getting mine for my bday
John Doe Luckily i'm not one of those pretentious pricks who dont care about watches and who just use them as status symbols :D. i have a great taste in fashion and if i want to buy these kind of things i have to buy them myself(as in save up money). sadly i'm not going for the Omega speedmaster moonwatch now since i dont have enough money or if im smart i would wait a bit longer and save up more money. i'm planning to buy a Breitling Colt Chronograph which costs 3320$ with an additional 15% disc. since i got enough funds for that, but if i can be patient i would wait a bit longer to buy the Omega speedmaster moonwatch. I know people who dont have to do a damn and buy a watch for its brand name and looks but not knowing the functions or whatsoever. The speedmaster that i want is 6250$(open caseback) with additional 15% disc. My parents are willing to pay the rest of the money for the moonwatch i want but yeah lets see. :)
okay, so i decided to not rush it like u were saying i still might get the Omega speedmaster moonwatch! most likely the regular one (5250$). Where i live the price is like this: MRP of the watch - 15%. most likely buying it on Black friday for an additional 10% discount. it will be 3937.50$ after 25% discount.
I've tried on both of it on my wrist. They look magnificent and yes luckily it is from an Authorized Dealer. The place is called Little Switzerland in Aruba. The Moonwatch was my first choice for my birthday. Due to insufficent funds i was maybe gonna cancel it, but i still might buy it.
WHAT IS THE CST OF THAT SERVICE ????
No wonder why full services range between 500-1000 euros for high end swiss watch brands.
SergeantMoetz, that sounds like the price range for just about any brand. I have a 9 year old Tissot automatic that cost nearly $350 Euros to service. They had to replace the case, glass and seals. It took almost one month.
Mesmerizing 🤤
Now I want a Speedy too
Wish he will get a proper macro lens so we can see the details better.
Close up view of the actual disassembly needed!
Is it worth, if I buy it for 3,000$ right now? Any opinion?
He's the guy from the Adam craniotes video that had the solid gold speedmaster
question: should the speedmaster only be wound when the chrono isn't running?
Big E All i can say is I’ve had mine for years and never even bothered to consider that. I’ve probably wound mine dozens of times with the chrono running. No signs of issue so far
Fascinating to watch...like a surgeon at work. By the way, I recently purchased my first Speedmaster Professional and couldn't be
happier. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out the production date though. Watch is a 145.0022/345.0022, bracelet 1171/633, and serial begins with 3558. According to charts I've found online the watch was produced either 1972 or 1977. Do you know how I can verity the actual production date? Thank you!
Omega provide this service online. However, it will cost you 120 Swiss Francs + VAT (Approximately £100).
Go to an Omega boutique, they will tell you everything you need to know about the watch
Great video, congratulations. I have a technical question if you are kind enough to reply. I bought the new Speedmaster 3861 a month ago and the winding is fine but it's hard to turn the crown. I tried other Speedmasters at the AD and most are smoother. I was told there is a tolerance range for the winding resistance. When almost wound the crown even turns backwards after each turn. First question: is this normal? Also, when I was at the Omega Boutique the watchmaker took the watch (he didn't give notice, otherwise I'd have asked him not to) and applied silicone oil on the crown tube. He obviously did not open the watch. I don't think the winding had anything to do with the crown/tube as it gets harder to wind when approaching a full wound. Second question: would the silicon oil find its way into the stem through the outside of the crown tube? Is there a rubber seal on the inside of the crown? Was this a harmless action or can it reach the movement? Thank you.
"When almost wound the crown even turns backwards after each turn. First question: is this normal?" My one-week-old 3861 Speedy does the exact same thing, I asked about it at the time of purchase and was able to try others in stock and they did the same. I think its normal.
@@watchound.bernardo9738 After a full week the winding is easier as there is much less back pressure, I wind it carefully until it hits a noticeable "wall".
@@JP-lf6zl It's doing great, much nicer to wind and stunning to wear. What about yours?
Hi! Just a small comment: I wish this video was all shot not from the back but from the top or in front of the watchmaker. The image would be more clear and the explanation more precise. Still, a great instructional video. Good job!
Just for my own curiosity, how much does an average service cost for a watch of this caliber?
Why didn't he disassemble the main spring for cleaning, check and lubrication?
Possibly they just replaced the main spring. As far as I know some high end services do that out of precaution
If you buy a new speed master and have not used it and it's in a safe with today's new lubricating oils that Omega uses will it need service after 5 years still?
μπράβο φίλε μου!
Great video. I also made a full review on the moonwatch on my youtube channel, but this one is also good. Just in a different perspective
Ok I did everything step by step and now I have extra parts ....
Is this that Archie Luxury channel ?
any tips for me getting into watchmaking? i want to become a watchmaker, should i search for some school in Swiss or america?
is he wearing a Speedy as well?
How much
Shia lebouf?
I did this to my toaster. Now every time i stick bread in it , my alarm goes off.
Those high end watches need servcing? How come? My 400 dollar auto is 15 yrs old running +5 a day and not been serviced ever since I got it. How come?
You just jinxed yourself, bro. It will need service any day now. (assuming you're wearing it daily and it's not one of a big collection)
Well, they won't stop running at the service due point, similar to how your car will run fine thousands of miles after it was due a service. Luxury and affordable mechanical watches on the whole operate on the same principles, luxury watches just use better quality components. I service my watches every 5 years or so - I'd say your automatic is due one even if it's running fine.
It's not something that has to be done every year. I got my 10 year old watch a full overhaul and the factory said the O-ring seals were long gone. A drink splashing on it would have ruined the watch. Also, to my suspicion, it was running a tad too quickly so they had to slightly reduce the speed of the second hand.
I will not service my watch, before something start to show it needs service, if the time is more off than usual etc. The newer watches from Omega can go for years without service maybe 15-20 years if not more. They tell you 5 years so they can make money. If its running well no need for service.
شكرا لكم ولكن تكرموا ترجمه عربي thanks put. Arpik
Was the watchmaker wearing two watches?
what model Omega is he working on? Speedmaster what?
James Mann it’s a ‘57 broad arrow reissue 3594.50.00. Not that I know all the speed masters. It’s just because that’s the one I own!
This requires so much mastery, attention to detail, and patience! It's almost like performing surgery but on a watch.
