Thanks for this video! The technique you describe only works for audio items, I just spent an hour reminding myself how to do it for MIDI items -- use case, you record something without a click and want to fit it into N measures.
What works for me -- you don't change the track timebase, instead you go into the MIDI item's properties, and then the Take Media Source properties and check the "ignore project tempo" box. Then your item's time selection works as expected with the "Create measure" actions, without stretching, shrinking or truncating the MIDI. It's kind of confusing and frustrating when the same technique works differently on MIDI and audio, but at least there's a workaround.
If you have SWS, there's an action for enabling that "ignore project tempo" checkbox to help create a Custom Action so that you don't ever forget it again (hope springs eternal).
Anyway, writing things down helps me remember them, maybe this will prove helpful as food for another video, or an addendum to an existing one...

@REAPER Mania Absolutely priceless. I have been following a lot of your videos lately because I have been more interested in actually producing my own music and not just mixing loops, which is where it started for me when I was about 16. I wanted to ask if you have any videos that show how you would make ratchets and other sounds like maybe the sound of tape being pulled to a stop, if that makes sense. Thanks again Kenny!! Great job as always!!

You could do it manually but you can also use Vinyl from Izotope which has this feature (or used to). It's free so may be worth checking out.

@@doughankins3996 Ok, I remember the one you're referring to. Just had a look. I can't copy and paste with this device but it's called "Automating the playrate in Reaper - Start and stop Tape FX". Hopefully, this is the one you mean.
There are many other ways to create interesting effects like this, including using Shift and W to create 2 points on an item(never used it but, apparently, it creates warp points) and unticking 'preserve pitch...' in the item>take menu.
Reaper really comes into its own with the different ways you can achieve the same thing and, also, with customisation. It can be arranged so that it works around your method/workflow and I'm always impressed with how it reseals new ways of getting somewhere. Hope this helps somewhat. Take care!

Great video! been looking for something like this, coming from Acid Pro for years. However, Acid has a simple way to do this (which I'm hoping could be used in Reaper)
When I brought in a Loop and wanted to use that loops' tempo for the project tempo (so that particular loop wasn't stretched), there was a simple right mouse click on the item, and it would show the BPM of that loop or sample? so item > Right Click > use tempo 112.654bpm. Click on this and it would switch the whole project to 112.654bpm really easily.
Could Reaper be set up to do this, this quickly without timebase changes, loop selection, and deleting tempo markers? :)

And getting a perfectly working and good looking theme for reaper is like a big confusion. Wish they also improve the looks of it and some main missing features. I think they have almost 40% best but the 60% is still remaining ! To be the best in the market they must design reaper to make each type of music very fast and easy! What do u think?

Im using premade beats and I can’t get this to work. I can see that its not at all lined up in the software. Its driving me nuts.
I right click the track off to the left and adjust Track Timebase so its set to Time
I shift and double left click my track on the waveforms
    And then I use Alt + Shift + C
Just for nothing to happen. I must be missing something. Hope someone can help!

Nice tip, but only works if your sample is exactly one or more measures... if you try this with say a whole song which has a fade out and maybe a period of silence at the start/end this won't work.

I can't stand it when people tell me what "not to do and what I don't want" and then they tell you what to do. I'm sitting here trying to follow along tabbed in reaper and then I have to stop and go back because what I think I'm supposed to be doing you're actually then gonna tell me I'm not supposed to dot. It's like giving someone directions in a car and saying "hey see that street right there to the left" and then the person turns left and you're like "yeah we don't wanna go there, keep going straight". ugh.
