この「ブラックドラゴン」は、ロールプレイングの要素を取り入れたアクションゲームである。主人公は鉄球とナイフを武器に戦うが、貨幣のゼニーを集めてショップで武器や防具を購入できる。どうでもいいが、ゲーム中に登場する岩を壊すと3万点入る。上手にやれば更に点数が入る。
ストーリー:
はるか昔、天空より稲妻とともに現れし三匹の竜が一つの王国を闇へと葬った。･････しかし、長い暗黒の時代は、そこに1人の勇者を誕生させた。

Black Dragon was released in August 1987 in Japan. It is known outside Japan as "Black Tiger".
Black Dragon is different to Black Tiger, it has:
* More pitfalls (rocks).
* Stronger enemies.
* The armoury is most expensive.
* The bonuses are changed (different value and position).

Scoring is exactly the same as in the non-Japanese version except for the following bosses :

I love all the common elements of the Capcom games of this era, the sounds are so similar between Avengers, Trojan, 1943, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Forgotten Worlds, the bonus items as the Yashichi, Takenoko, the barrel, the Pow, the use of Zeny as currency and many more I'm sure I'm missing. Classic Capcom era; amazing games.
They still do Zeny currency whenever they can. Megaman Battle Network had it, Breath of Fire had it.
There was also Tiger Road and Bionic Commando. They all ran on the the same hardware, so that's why they look and sound similar. Not sure what the name of the hardware platform was, but it was eventually replaced with the CPS1 in 1988.
Classic game. Played this a lot back in the day as a wee lad (known as Black Tiger in the US).
One of the little things that amused me was how the enemies would keep attacking even though you were dead and gone.
I fed so many quarters into this game when i was a kid.
Almost a precursor to magic sword.
This is one of the 4 Mid-80s Capcom gems I could win on 1 quarter, I loved it something fierce back in the day. I have to admit that no-knifing it is a new challenge I don't think I'd want to take!
Me and my best friend both trained to 1-quarter this gem. The best time I ever had was one new transfer kid thought he was all hot stuff and couldn't wait to show us....except my friend and I both back-to-back won the game before he could play and had to go home. Ah the little things that matter so much as a preteen.
Underrated game!! It's sort of like a spiritual sequal to Ghost N Goblins before Gargoyles Quest would eventually be the proper spiritual sequal. Speaking of Gargoyles Quest 17:40 Hi Firebrand :)

クリアしてもまたやりたくなるゲーム
One of Capcom's best ever 80's arcade titles. Always played this whenever I saw it in an arcade/shop. After a while, you could pretty consistently finish the game in one credit. Even on the hardest dip setting. The only problem this game had was the amount of zenny the game gave you on the last two levels. Should have been toned down a bit I feel. Still doesn't detract from the game too much though. Would love to see a modern-day successor to this. :)
Indeed, I love the hero and the general ambiance. Maybe it was too close to Ghost'n goblin and Castlevania in some aspects so they decided to forget it ?

I loved this game at my local arcade. In the U.S. it's called "Black Tiger" for some reason, not sure why.

I came to the comments to ask if this game had an alternate title because I remember it being called something else. Then I saw in the description *Black Tiger* used to play this in high school in '88 The soundtrack is what brought back the memories!

This seems like the game right before Capcom started to stylistically come into their own. Forgotten Worlds is when they officially set themselves apart from other gaming companies.
That vitality system and that boss at the 34:00 mark... did someone who worked on this also make King of Dragons? Because the draconian boss near the end of the game looks almost exactly like that boss, and the health system looks very similar too.
Look like a really hard game
It is. It's hard as fuck.
Not that hard if you take your time. I used to clear it without losing any life when I was a kid. Here he plays without knives which is harder. The game does not that shitty hardcore last level a lot of arcade games have to make you use more money (like Toki, Double Dragon, Shinobi... Good games btw).
