Honestly, I know they poke fun at classic rock but you can clearly tell they really do love the genre, to an extent. The way they speak of ZZ Top and how they actually know who The Moving Sidewalks (the band that was ZZ Top before they where zz top, kinda like The Quarrymen and The Beatles) and Roger Erikson says it all.
I think a lot of bands from this time have a big respect for zz top. the final track on SY's daydream nation , 'eliminator Jr z" is inspired by them. xiu xiu (more recently) also covered ZZ top

My band Bomb's first album, the "To Elvis In Hell" LP, we only ever pressed 1000 copies, with World Records. It was on our own vanity label, "Boogadigga Records" (an onamonapia named after the sound of a beat Tony used in several songs...BoogadiggaBoogadiggaBoogadigga etc). but World Records, the presser, put their logo on our artwork bigger than where we had our label name. So some online listing list the label of "To Elvis in Hell" as "World Records." (Sleazy company, but catchy name when you think about it.)
