Taiwo Afolabi | 2023 New RSC College Member | University of Regina

Taiwo Afolabi is an interdisciplinary artist-researcher of African descent with internationally recognized expertise in applied theatre focusing on social justice, human rights, decolonization, and antiracism education among Indigenous, immigrants, and marginalized communities. Through global theatre initiatives/publications, his practice-based research encompasses issues of public health education, Sustainable Development Goals, African theatre, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. He was the founding artistic director of Theatre Emissary International, currently the Director of the Centre for Socially Engaged Theatre, and a CRC in Socially Engaged Theatre.
Taiwo Afolabi est un artiste-chercheur interdisciplinaire d’origine africaine dont l’expertise est reconnue sur le plan international dans le domaine du théâtre appliqué. Il porte principalement ses travaux sur la justice sociale, les droits de la personne, la décolonisation et l’éducation à la lutte contre le racisme au sein des communautés autochtones, immigrées et marginalisées. Par le biais d’initiatives et de publications théâtrales mondiales, ses recherches basées sur la pratique englobent les questions d’éducation à la santé publique, les objectifs de développement durable, le théâtre africain, l’entrepreneuriat et la durabilité. Il est directeur du Centre for Socially Engaged Theatre et titulaire d’une Chaire de recherche du Canada en théâtre socialement engagé.
