- Royal Ballet dancers Yasmine Naghdi and Matthew Ball rehearse Marius Petipa's The Sleeping Beauty during World Ballet Day 2016 www.roh.org.uk/sleepingbeauty
The Sleeping Beauty holds a special place in The Royal Ballet’s repertory. It was the ballet with which the Company reopened the Royal Opera House in 1946 after World War II, its first production at its new home in Covent Garden. Margot Fonteyn danced the role of the beautiful Princess Aurora in the first performance, with Robert Helpmann as Prince Florimund. Sixty years later, in 2006, the original 1946 staging was revived by then Director of The Royal Ballet Monica Mason and Christopher Newton, returning Oliver Messel’s wonderful designs and glittering costumes to the stage.
The masterful 19th-century choreography of Marius Petipa is combined with sections created for The Royal Ballet by Frederick Ashton, Anthony Dowell and Christopher Wheeldon. Together they create an enchanting sequence of gems in the ballet repertory - from the iconic Rose Adage, when Aurora meets her four royal suitors, and the lilting Garland Waltz to the Vision Pas de deux, as Florimund sees Aurora for the first time, and the celebratory divertissements and final pas de deux that bring the ballet to its glorious close. Throughout, Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky’s masterful score takes ballet music to a height of passion, sophistication and intensity that arguably has never been surpassed. - Krátké a kreslené filmy

Yasmine has such a bright personality plus amazing technique.
I love how all the directors and choreographers are really nice and are positive to the dancers and have a good mood.
Yasmine is beautiful! Her and Matthew are great together and I can't wait to see them on stage!
Yasmine smiles like she is in a beautiful dream, but it's all so real.

I read "smiles" as smells
One of the most impressive thing I've ever seen
Look at the way their bodies flow. It's so elaborate but seems so playful, soft and elegant.
Breathtaking
He seems like a nice director to work with.
lacouerfairy I found him to be rather priggish.
Matthew Ball is so dreamy.
those fish dives look like fun! such poise, beauty, and grace😍
fantasyqwest It depends on the partner. Sometimes you get one with a sense of humor, and they drop you on purpose.
Matt Ball is going to travel like a rocket...he is superb!
And so it came to pass!
I just want to point out that from many ballet videos I've seen he is the best coach. He knows how to say what is working well, he uses a strengths-based approach, he gives feedback on what is not working well in a respectful manner and always in between positive comments. This will create momentum in the dancers and almost surely result in something great and in one of their best performances yet. Every dance coach should get trained in rather than teaching, coaching and leadership
wow Yasmine is such a beauty! I spotted her during the class on World Ballet Day and it's so nice to see her in this video.. I wish I could see them on stage!
They're both amazing!
theyre both so amazing on their own and together is even better 😪💘
i wish our teachers were that gentle and patient... 😊
Really enjoy watching Yasmine dance and they dance really well together!
Matthew is an excellent partner.
I kept finding myself smiling while watching her dance. She just emits happiness!
This was my favorite pas de deux to dance when I was doing ballet. The wedding pas de deux never fails to make me tear up a little. This was gorgeous.
I love Yasmine for her amazing technique, but also great presence. During ballet day (royal ballet class in full), she stands out so much, I'm really glad she got this role.
GREAT RISING STARS BOTH OF THEM. ALEXANDER IS A BORN PRINCE AND YASMINE IS A SWEET AURORA WITH EXCELLENT TECHNIQUE.

Beth Marie the Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky. I believe this particular pas de deux is no. 29. The one I listen to on Spotify is 29c

@@TheSorub hi there
Yes I have and a very welcome relief from the outside madness going on. A lovely form of escapism...
@@carolynellis387 to true, not sure if there are any more after this friday ??
What's the leotard brand Yasmine was wearing.
Hi Samantha. Yasmine says her leotard is Freed's 'Colabra' leotard in lime.

Like this is what I was speaking about. More chances being taken. Better tempi, and these wonderful dancers could do it if asked.

I think I spelled her name wrong
never heard someone pronounce tchaikovsky like that
She said it like tchraikovsky
She looks just like TALISA STARK ( GAME OF THRONES) for real.
I never understood how the dancers can remember all the steps..i guess practice, practice and practice !
i feel like in ballet girls are doing all the work? am i right or wrong
shaikha almeer women and men have very different roles in classical ballet. while in a pas de deux the girl is often the main focus of the audience, she doesn't do all the work. the boy is there to support her and lift her and that is extremely difficult work as well. so basically, a pas de deux takes a lot of team effort from both partners :D
😥😂😭😢
Some people on here are so damn judgemental, thinking they know so much better..... If they think they can do it better why aren't they a Principal at The Royal Ballet?
here here!!
Because you don’t have to be a dancer to judge ballet. Audiences have more right to judge since we are ones paying the money after all.
Of course excellent dancers, but why oh why has the Royal lost the speed and musicality in this that they had in the 60’s with Fonteyn, Sibley, etc. And why those “ pumped supported turns? They have that great heritage from Somes beautiful partnering and Fonteyn’s force on turns. Somes barely touched her on pirouettes. She did it all herself and he just stopped her. Again, these dancers are great. I just miss the old brio and risk taking the Royal used to have.
For more pirouettes, Mr. Clifford. I believe RB used to be fast, and Bolshoi. Now it is slower than the Mariinsky, only Vaganova style isn't meant to be very fast, except in allegro. This is what it has come to. And if COURSE they could be faster, Núñez could be as well, but this is how RB wants it. Slow and boring.
she's English ?????????????????? not very gracefull.
That rounded front arm in the supported pirrouettes is not attractive.
very weak, Russian ballet is out of competition
In tradition and heritage the RB is more less Russian . Came out of the Pavlova - Diaghilev generation.
Yasmine and Mathew are brilliant here. *The narcissist in the t-shirt should be quiet.* Seriously.
Who are you referring to? The director? Je is supposed to Direct them. Thats his job and he is super friendly.
she has nothing coming from inside. boring......
nothing says 'prima ballerina' here for me....
!mrdunn brucvald i thought she danced beautifully, but i guess it's all a matter of personal taste :)
She dances very well but there is an almost mechanical feel to it. She needs more feeling
This is a technical rehearsal don't forget, NOT a performance on the Covent Garden stage. The Director said at the beginning this is one of their very first rehearsals, learning all the steps and movements, normal there's nothing coming from inside as she focusses on the technicalities. Watch the real performance on stage and you'll see a BIG difference. She's so good she was promoted to Prima Ballerina in June 2017. You can't make a judgement based on a technical rehearsal in a studio.
It's a TECHNICAL rehearsal NOT a performance. This was only their 2nd rehearsal ever to learn all the new steps so if you want to see more feeling you will have to watch her on the Covent Garden stage.
@@alexandranewman4223 Absolutely. It always amazes me when someone watches rehearsal footage and complains that the performance wasn't there. No kidding.. It wasn't meant to be. In fact there are some artists that don't like to give "performances" in rehearsals because they want to be spontaneous on stage. If you are watching a rehearsal EXPECT a rehearsal!
This should not be about dancing? What I see is, movement (!) is irrelevant, all we want is nice perfect poses. Sad. Yasmine and Matthew are lovely, but coaching is not about dancing, leads them to perform a sequence of beautiful lines and poses. Just compare with videos of a few decades old performances, and you want to cry.
