Breakdance 2 vs. Divi 4 (&5?) - Almost Inevitable Tutorials by PK

  • With the new Breakdance coming out, I decided to try it against Divi. I haven’t used Divi since 3.27 and moved on to Oxygen builder when Divi 4 came out. Now that Divi 5 is getting near release, it could be a bit unfair to Divi to compare a new beta Breakdance against an older (mature?) version of Divi, so I tried some parts with Divi 5 beta as well.
To be fair, I haven’t used Divi in a while, and even when I did, I used the builder on the backend as a layout tool and wrote all the styles in CSS. So I’m not the best at using the builder.
The rules are simple: no html layouts, minimal CSS, no third party addons.
The challenge: Modify a pre-built layout to match the client brand and build a woocommerce shop.
Watch the video to see how I do with Divi 4 and some 5 beta, and how I do the same with Breakdance 2.
All the timestamps are in the pinned comment below, so please feel free to jump around.

As a person who worked with Divi for a long time (before BD), I have to say that it would be fair if you knew Divi at least a bit. You can use global settings as a preset, for example. So you set every setting for H1, H2, H3, body, links, etc. only once for the whole page. This is just an example. So you can work a lot faster with Divi as well.
But I totally agree. Breakdance is much smoother and speeds up the whole process enormously.
    Thanks for the video!

Hey there, thanks for the comment. I've been told on a FB comment that there are presets, and I've gone back to check and tried to get it to work, and ended up screwing things up a bit more haha Unfortunately, even though making some presets as default, that seems like it works best when building fresh, and not as good when loading a layout and expecting it to be on brand. However, yes, I should/could have dug deeper and should have known about it.

I made quite a bit of money from Divi. However, I started losing my fascination with it during the Divi 4 era. The front end builder to this day still has frustrating inconsistencies and glitches. I find myself needing to edit in wireframe more often than I should.
The workload for creating custom modules also more than doubled after Divi 4. Plus there is no native support for flex and grid. Even Divi 5 won't release with that, apparently.
In a word, I will def be picking up Breakdance once I get back into web work. Plus, it's a newer market with plenty of opportunities for recurring revenue from relevant products 😂 Thanks for the video!

Hey Terry! Same here, but apparently there have been some improvements in D4 that I missed in the video haha had quite the discussion on that
Looking forward to seeing you around more in the web design communities!

I have to agree - I find myself spending far less time fighting with Breakdance, than I do any other builder.

Thanks for the comment. Yeah, it's been pretty smooth sailing so far.

    Thanks for the video,
BD is the best for WP but it has some bugs and issues we hope they will fix them

    Hey, Loved this informative video🙌!
Just wanted to throw this out there (totally fine if it's not a good fit!), but I'm a video editor and I sometimes help creators improve distribution by making their content a bit more snackable for viewers. Think catchy intros and outros, or even some engaging short clips!
Would love to chat if you're interested.
