- One of the greatest guitar players of all time, Brian May from QUEEN, provides us with some insight into how he viewed Ritchie Blackmore when he was starting out in the late 1960’s.

" Before Hendrix " words of historical importance spoken by a legend himself .
Pete Townshend also said in an interview back in the early 70s that Blackmore essentially invented heavy metal - that while some folks attribute that creation to his own Who and to perhaps the Kinks, Blackmore was doing that stuff before any of them.
@@Gk2003m Pete Townshend is actually very amazing. I have never seen a video of Blackmore and Page performing together?
@@ALNlemtor Amazing How ? That He can't Play the fucking Guitar ? !
But Hendrix did very much influence Ritchie's use of the whammy bar (and Strat). Black Night (BBC 1970 sessions) on CZcams shows how he took whammy technique to another level I think - .
@@highwaystar3780 What he does is his own thing, and have you tried to do his whirlwind strumming? Saying Townsend can't play just makes me know you can't.
This is possibly the best testimony of how important Blackmore was today electric
Richie to me is the greatest rock and roll guitarist his style is way different than from most guitar player
The very first note; you hear it and immediately you know it's Ritchie.
🚀🏴☠️🎸
respect. ritchie is a legend, even brian is a fine fine guitarist
I read an interview with Nick Simper where Simper said the first time he saw Blackmore was in 1961 in the 2 i’s coffee bar. Blackmore was only 16 and was already using feedback as part of his sound. This was 5 years before Hendrix came on the scene !
Yep. The stories come from various places/people. Nick Simper, Brian May, Don Airey, others. Look up the writings of drum legend Carlo Little, who talks of how all the musicians used to come watch a 15 year old Blackmore bring down the house.
Jimi Hendrix was already a big name before he went to London to make his own band. He played with all the real big names of the time on stage. Some even wanted to reject him, 'cause he looked too young, but the they heard him play...
🚀🏴☠️🎸
Just glad that both of these legends are still with us.
many will soon die in the next 3-7 years...but that´s life (and they surely had a full one)
You can debate who is the greatest guitar player of all time until your blue in the face! My answer will always be Ritchie Blackmore! 🎸🇬🇧
He's fantastic by any standard and a true innovator of rock music.
He's like a Fireball,☄🔥☄
Finally the truth spoken.....what a great musician and person Brian May is.... Richie and Django are great influence .....and they have a lot in common....
Ritchie is one and only of a kind
Yes Ritchie was BEFORE Hendrix but once he heard Jimi Ritchie said that everything made sense.
May is such a good man and musician, even though is a bit too tall but he can't help that.
Blackmore joke 🙂
@@dplzkc6713: Being same height as Blackmore, I got the joke! If you're 5'10"/5.11" and slim, you feel kind of tall - until you meet a 6'3" guy like Brian May! 😆 Actually, I know a girl of May's height, and she hates being that tall.
Brian has a PHD in astrophysics.
Made in Japan, one of the best live records period, and Ritchie was amazing, also his work with Rainbow on the first couple of records
All his work with rainbow was very good.
@@europeanzorro4330 agreed, partial to the first ones tho, jmo
@@europeanzorro4330 i agree
@@europeanzorro4330 Absolutely 💯
Early Rainbow, with Ronney James Dio and Cozy Powell and Ritchie of course. Three of the best of their time. Cant get much better....
🚀🏴☠️🎸
mr. May is one of the few that really puts forward how much of a trailblazer Ritchie Blackmore was and how good he was.
now most people predominantly know Blackmore from Deep Purple but if you listen to Rainbow you might hear his finest work.
and Rainbow live on stage is one of the best live albums ever .
I love you guys 🤘
Says one genious to the other.
Incredibly tight, this rendition.
Они, оба, для меня супер гитаристы. У Мэя тоже фантастические импровизации и рифы.
Pete Townsend said Ritchie probably invented Power Chords. Blackmore was incredible. I will always say Ritchie is my favorite.
Легендарные идолы. Обожаю всех.
Not just one of the greatest guitarists ever, but revolutionary. And very influential even though some guitarists don't want to admit it (I'm looking at you, Yngwie).
I wouldnt say that.Yngwie really loves Ritchie
Ynwie knows that, it’s his fans that don’t get it.
he met rtichy on may in a blackmore day
Prepare to be intrigued: To know what he means listen to The Outlaws Keep a Knockin and Shake w Me from ‘64. RB was indeed a phenom pre Hendrix and get this - Hendrix heard Shake w Me and told Jeff Beck he liked it. There is a possibility that RB has some (small) influence on Hendrix. Both had bombastic styles, and RB ended up w JH influence of course.
The King's ritchie and Jimmy page
I just want to say there are 3 bands Purple Sabbath and Zeppelin
Iommi " Heart Like a Wheel" is on the same level as " Since I've Been Loving You" or " Mistreated "
😎
I will admit I was more influenced directly by Richie than Jimi early on, that flipped when I started working on SRV tunes. But for me, Richie Blackmore was an major early influence.
Hush was written by Joe South.
Anybody knows where the clip with Ritchie Blackmore is from?
I think it's from Wring that neck 1970
The bananas who think everything is about page, Clapton and Beck should listen to people like Brian.
So question blackmore or jimmy page who is better.
Before Hendrix and WAY before Eddie Van Halen.
;) like (#1;)
I like Ritchie better than Hendrix...Ritchie knew what to do he controlled his music..Hendrix too uncontrolled...I play both of their tunes..I prefer Ritchie...
No guitarist affects me quite like Blackmore, not even Page.
A.I .... lol 😂 "Mork calling Orson cannot comprehend Love cannot comprehend rock & roll cannot get what gets you humans off. Oh well at least we being born and not busy dying as Dylan also was lazy and used opposites in song lyrics to sound cool
To bad he was such a prick to the fans.
Not with purple, his rainbow days he was..
he was a prick to all equally though - he didn't play favourites
I've met with him several times and he is a very funny and down to earth person actually. People just don't know how to handle British humor. He is driven and that rubs people the wrong way. He has stated he wasnt into music for fun, it was a serious profession.
Evan to roger glover he was@@stevecrocker6904
@@koaguilds Ritchie also has a curtain sullen look on his face that's just his natural look and doesn't help his reputation.
No, Ritchie was not famous before Hendrix..! Hendrix was performing very successfully in England and then returned to the US in 1967 where he gained more fame when played Wild Thing at the Monterey Fest. Jon Lord and Ritchie formed Deep Purple in 1968. Ritchie said in interviews that they were heavily influenced by Hendrix. Sir Brian May, you stand corrected..!
Brian May actually doesn't say that Blackmore was famous before Hendrix, only that he already was a legend (among who?) when Deep Purple released its debut album. That's dubious too.
Brian May also says that Blackmore already played his guitar in a wild manner before Hendrix. There are no albums registrating that, but it could be true. That should be during his time with Screaming Lord Sutch, who was famous for his stage antics.
He’s talking more like early 60s.
I think Brian was simply talking about what the musos knew and saw back then, not yet the public
He’s talking about Blackmore when he was a session musician
Blackmore, Page, Hendrix and Iommi put the heavy into rock. Van Halen finished the job. Everyone later these dudes was derivative.
