- 몇 년 전, VICE가 한국에 똥술이 있다는 동영상을 유튜브에 올렸습니다. 똥술을 찾아서 마시는 것이 재미있는 도전이 될것이라고 생각했습니다. 한국에 가서 영상에서 똥술을 만듣 한의사를 찾았지만 결국 VICE 영상이 거짓이라는 것을 알게 되었습니다.
A few years ago, VICE uploaded a video about poo wine in Korea. I thought it would be a fun challenge to find it and drink it. I ended up finding the doctor in the VICE video who made the poo wine, but what I also discovered was the doctor's life was almost ruined by the video.

Peter and Yen That’s pretty much what I felt like trying to locate the doctor... was going all over Seoul like a madman🏃... yeah, really sucked what happened. For me, the worst part was when they refused to answer any calls after making the video. Shows bad intent to me... on a happier topic, I get to wake up to some beautiful NZ scenery soon!!! Yahoooo~~
@@SeoulMan2020I think asking around in Seoul was futile. Where it would have been more fruitful would be in the countryside where traditional medicines are still common. Or maybe asking at an senior citizen center where there were 90+ age people.
I had a Korean-Korean friend who was born in 1972 & raised in the countryside... She had recently immigrated in her mid-30s to California, which is where I met her.
She was telling me how she grew up. She told me that her family would hang vegetables in their outhouse to age them & they'd eat them later.
I was fascinated because I'd seen the original Vice video before & I'm into traditional medicines. Like, were the veggies hung in a plastic bag? Or just bare, like from a string? Was it close to where the excrements were, or more up high, away from it? Were they hung in the outhouse because it was convenient? Or because they purposely wanted to infuse the veggies with some of the beneficial bacteria? Or to ferment them?
She relayed the practice with no embarrassment, like this was a common, everyday practice. She also told me her grandma would feed her a black-colored animal when she was sick. I can't remember if it was an all-black chicken or a black cat?
Due to language barrier, I couldn't get more detail from her.
WOOAAHH... You could make a whole documentary about the true story. That's really twisted of VICE, but way to use some solid detective skills! 👍🏻 Seoul Man for the win.

@@SeoulMan2020 Yeah, I don't know if I'm actually bummed that you weren't able to drink poo wine -- but I guess it would have at least made for an interesting story. Either way, this ending at least had an interesting story behind it and you exposed the truth!
Well if you ask me VICE is known for some BS stories of their own. They don't even know what the case is and make a video for the sake of keeping their channel running.

Well Vice is always sensationalizing stuff, but at the same time I don't get why this almost ruined his business.
She didn't say Koreans would really drink it today, she asked some people about it in public and showed that it wasn't really known anymore.
Maybe she did feel that sick and didn't know where else to throw up, but even then that wouldn't be unheard of either.

I totally agree. These guys are off their rocker. The chick in the video didn’t sensationalize anything, altho I agree that vice has done plenty of fear mongering in the past but the video they uploaded for feces wine was an extremely objective take on the situation all things considered. She was _very_ respectful, too. If they want to make shit wine in the very offices where they conduct legitamate medicine, that’s on them. Dude could have made it at his house or worn a mask to cover is identity if he wanted to, but he didn’t, bc he didn’t mind being known as the shit wine guy, lol. Only had a problem with it once the government got involved, which they had every right to, considering a freaking licensed doctor was literally advocating for consuming shit -_- like how tf else could they have portrayed these guys, it was as black and white as possible…

They probably got so much crap from western doctors & the public that they resorted to pretending like Vice did them wrong. Granted, Vice did sensationalize it for entertainment value, but they also showed some of the truth.

Yeah I watched the poop wine video, it was pretty disgusting, and then right after it went viral, there was a whole lot of memes in Korea, China, Japan, and even in the West. But when you think about it, who frickin drink shit, right? Turns out it was another video made for gaining attention. I have seen a lot of people's lives ruined coz of videos that are twisted. there was a model in Taiwan who encountered something similar as well, cyberbullying, it was no joke.
So true. I think I know which one you’re referencing in regards to the Taiwanese model. Is it the meme that alludes to plastic surgery and her alleged kids? If so, yeah... really sad how horribly that affected her life... I guess that’s a sad part of the social media age we live in... really sad what happened to her.
@@SeoulMan2020 Exactly, about 5 or 6 years ago it was extremely viral in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, most people would laugh when they see the meme, but then again there are some sick people who would take that and turn it into a personal attack to her. Especially some people who actually know who she is, in Hong Kong and Taiwan where she works, that's why she lost her job opportunities, it's crazy. I feel really sorry for her, coz I laughed when I saw the memes back then as well, knowing what happened to her, I feel bad. And I can def feel the same way for the Korean Doctor in this case.

@@SeoulMan2020 All in all, sir, even tho I didn't know you before, and I am not even Korean, I am Chinese. I thank you so much for putting the effort into making a video like this, and telling the truth of the story. Sometimes I feel like the information age we live in can suck so bad. People watch something and they immediately get angry and attack others like a maniac, without even thinking. This happens anywhere, I have seen enough of things like this on the Internet, people don't even care about the story behind it, they just wanna watch the person involved lost everything.

in some middle eastern cultures they ate a small amount of camel droppings, because it served as antibiotics to a potentially deadly disease. in turkey the put small amounts of puss from a smallpox-infected person in wounds to prevent severe infections. so, yeah. alot of cultures did "gross" things in the past to actually prevent getting sick. but that doesn't mean in current times anyone does this, as there is no need for it. modern medicine and all. i'd assume, the same thing applies to this "wine"

No, it was used for medicinal purposes many centuries ago. Modern day Koreans don't even know what it is.
yea ddong sool still being consumed among elders who afraid to encounter modern medical equipment. but then in the history the ddong sool were longevity stuff as the main ingredient is young kids poo. in korean style belief dog meat is virility stuff that makes them doggy style good as dogs cat meat is flexible stuff for old people who have stiff joints. no matter how modern day future day whatever day koreans are koreans ;)
