  • A complete video guide to replacing a shattered or damaged iPhone 7 screen from start to finish. It helps to get a good quality replacement screen and a decent tool kit, these can be bought individually or in a bundle from as little as $25.
    Make sure you keep all the screws really well organised when removing them so that you know which ones go where, there are a number of different types, sizes and lengths of screws.
    Here are the purchase links for good quality replacement products and tool kits:

    Used this guide to replace my iPhone 7 screen today. Very clear and helped me get the job done without any breakage or drama. My old screen took a bit more persuasion to be removed than expected but all done within an hour.

    Great guide, used with success. If you find the phone doesn't work after replacement (like I did) it may need a hard reset - Simultaneously press and hold the power button (Sleep/Wake button) and the volume down button until the Apple logo appears on the center of the screen.

    Thanks for this. Just repaired mine. Bit of a bodge job but it works. A couple of notes-some of these jobs are very hard. I broke the camera when removing it and had to get a replacement part. My home button also no longer works-it’s is very hard to remove and I had to watch a separate video. I may have damaged it or may have not replaced the ribbon cable correctly. That part is very hard to replace. I also COMPLETELY SEVERED THE SMALL RIBBON CABLE CONNECTING THE SCREEN BACK TO THE MOTHERBOARD BUT EVERYTHING STILL WORKS!!!! WTF?

    Great video about replacing the screen. Did it today following the video...successfully. The suction cup method to separate the broken screen from the body did not work for me even after blow drying it. I had to be carefully creative and pry the screen open with the tiny flathead that came in the kit.
    The kit I bought had a cheap three prong screw driver. This screw driver is essential and is used the most during the replacement. The screw driver metal actually stripped and was not usable anymore. I bought a screw driver set from Home Depot that worked. It was a 000 three pronged screw driver in the Klein Tools set that worked for me.
    Again, great video overall about replacing the screen!!!

    Good easy video for the DIYer. One additional point is you can apply a little alcohol to all glued downed areas, this will creep down under and loosen the glue making it very usable again on the reinstall.

      Big Dog hi, if this is what your wondering about.time frame at 4:16 shows them prying up on the ribbon (cable ) at these points you apply a little alcohol this will soften the glue and make for an easier and safer lift of that glued section of ribbon cable. It will then stick better when reinstalling. Just apply alcohol to any of these areas you come across.

      Hi, thanks for the great feedback. I haven't had trouble with those screws specifically but I have occasionally had trouble with the tri-points on the lcd back plate and with the pentalobe screws on the bottom. If they're even a little tighter than usual then they strip the head of the screw driver (the cheap included ones) and then its very difficult to remove them. A good quality screw driver shouldn't have any trouble with these small screws so either try pick one up at a local store or order a kit like the one included in the description link. Hope you manage to come right!

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  Před 4 lety

      Have you heated it up enough? It should be fairly hot to touch. Then try placing the suction cup as close to the bottom edge as possible. Pull up on the cup and try insert your pry tool along the edge to help lift it up. You can often help pry the bottom edge up with two tools, push and lift with one then hold it in place with the other and repeat until the gap is wide enough to get the pry tool between.

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi Hamza, I've read some online articles which suggest that Apple has disabled screens repaired by third parties on the iPhone 8 running IOS 11.3. I haven't experienced any problems on any iPhone 6 or 7 with any IOS versions I've come across so far. Just make sure that you move the touch ID sensor across to the new screen so that it stays with it's original logic board and it should work perfectly. People do run into issues when they replace the touch ID sensor with a new one, this disables the touch ID features and the button just functions as a regular home button thereafter.

    Isn't it safer to use clear packing tape across the shattered screen so pieces don't fly off somewhere?

      The gasket just makes it more resistant to water and dust, it’s not a big issue if you don’t fit it.

      Hi Sam,
      The adhesive strip can be quite tough to work free. Try leaving your phone in the sun for ten minutes or so to soften the glue. If that doesn't work, as a last resort, you can also stick it into a warm oven (not more than 50C 120F) for around 5 to 10 minutes as well. You've just got to get the edge of your pry tool under the screen once and it should all come free.

    two of my screws that are holding the fingerprint tight have really bad pattern (almost round) idk why since this is the first time doing this. Any ideas how to get them out? Help is much appreciated! tried elasticband and glue. Drilling isn´t much of an option right? Since the screws are super tiny as you might know ;)

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  Před 5 lety

      Hi Alexander. That can be really frustrating! Have you tried gluing the screwdriver head to the screw with a drop of super glue? If that didn't work then my last suggestion would be to use a thin cutting disc on a Dremel or rotary tool and cut a thin slot into the head of the screw which you can then use a flat screwdriver to remove. You can buy a replacement screw set for your phone quite cheaply - amzn.to/2DfyY2u

    • @MichaelKlements

      I'm not sure what you mean by if you long press the screen but if the problem is related to the actual touch screen (digitizer) then replacing the assembly should fix the problem.

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  Před 5 lety

      Yes, Apple has made screen placements quite a lot easier in the more recent models. The most difficult part on the newer models is getting the display off as the waterproofing sticks the display in place as well. I think that the 6s is the easiest to replace.

      You'll need an iphone repair kit to repair these, it has everything you need. For the screws, just organize them so when you take out a screw it goes back where it came from.

      @MichaelKlements  Před 3 lety

      I've had a couple of screws in different places that are just too tight to remove. I'm not sure if they are overtightened or just get stuck from dirt or corrosion. They can be really frustrating to try remove.
