Many musicians are genre-hoppers these days, but few have an inventive take on every style they touch. RBMA alum Objekt could be an exception to the rule.
Objekt delved deep into the intricacies of his sound design process, as well as his meticulous approach to DJing in his lecture from RBMA Berlin 2018.

His first record, the white-label Objekt #1, came out in 2011. Across his subsequent club output on labels such as Hessle Audio, Leisure System and Power Vacuum, audacious sound design and meticulous arrangements have served to buckle and twist dancefloor conventions. His debut album, 2014’s Flatland on PAN, consolidated his influences - IDM, electro, techno, industrial and ambient, among others - into a sonically adventurous narrative imagining “a world in which any scene can be seen from every angle at once.”
His 2018 follow-up, the introspective Cocoon Crush, deploys a more organic sound palette of foley recordings and ASMR-inspired textures in service of more personal themes. In parallel, Objekt has built a reputation as one of the must-see DJs of his generation thanks to a deft, highly technical mixing style combined with a technician’s mindset honed through his years working as an instrument developer at music software company Native Instruments.

An interviewer who sits back and actually listens! So rare. She's clearly weighing and considering every word that he says, and the format of this makes it all very unhurried, letting him think and consider and delve into topics. Wonderful stuff, props to RBMA and the interviewer alike.
The interviewer is excellent. Interesting questions and seems as excited as the audience. Very thorough
The interviewer is Lauren Martin - if you didn't already know, her work is very very good!
I never knew he worked at Native Instruments but should have guessed from the way he spells his name.
lmao
hahaha classic! (or should I say, klassik)
LOL
that's some funny shit
Well this was just sublime. Big up Lauren, great interviewer and really informative piece of music journalism all round.
Few producers can speak so eloquently about audio as Objekt, great interview!
a lot of this went straight over my head but I was glued to the screen for the entirety
Love this interview. Actually the only interview of this sort, that I watched several times
The questions were so spot on ! Great interview !
Emotional Bangers..my new favorite genre
Great interview! Interesting, precise and informative questions. It really brings the best of the interviewee.
The part at about an hour in where the camera just focuses on different people biting their nails and playing with their facial hair is fantastic
this is long overdue. he's just the coolest guy.
He sounds and talks the same way I would imagine him to sound and talk. Very methodical, nerdy and smart. Great interview!
Wow, just got on heavy Objekt kick for the first time in a while yesterday, reading posts he made about production and whatnot, and BAM, this comes out.
ditto
Nice, I wonder if he knows he has control over the cosmic order lol.@@kwickemarts
Links to the posts? I'd be interested to read that.

i felt that line about "lugging amplifiers around"... that IS being a musician.
what a lovely chap
Trippy how I heard objekt yesterday for the first time. Very good sounds
articulate geez
24:00 love how he’s talking about the importance of note taking as part of improving an iteration.
39:17 ASMR reference ...kinky.
after 5 years of listening techno I can say Objekt is the most underrated dj and producer in the scene !
Niels Mac he isn’t “underrated”
he is not underrated, most of the people are just uneducated :)
Niels Mac lmao he won dj of the year 2018 where you been
Nothing is honestly underated until someone points that word towards it. See that 🟠🟠🟠⚫⚪
Great interview!
Lauren is lovely.
This interviewer is fantastic - she should have her name on here too!
Man, Bob Moog said in his interwievs on what he thinks where those ideas came..also Rupert Neve said the same thing.
7:08 for the most excited people on earth. Good talk too.
they look punished
Hilarious
what is floaty rollers ? :)
I don't understand why the songs has been cut if they speak a lot about it
Anyone know which Brian eno book she read from
genius
I miss the days when you could watch a red bull lecture and all of the music clips were left in. Anyone know where or what the dj set bit is at the end that Lauren plays?
All music / videos played in lectures are still listed in the descriptions and linked whenever possible. This set was “Live at Freerotation 2017” and you can find it on Soundcloud
@@RBMA Thanks for the reply
would love to know what moment during his Freerotation 2017 set she used for an example of his energy contour
An approx 5 mins section, starting at 56 mins soundcloud.com/keinobjekt/live-at-freerotation-2017-dj-set

We can only guess
Tracklist?
In the description!
Rough night at 41:07
Who is the interviewer? With questions like this I bet she has some interesting projects of her own.
Her name's Lauren Martin.
ID on TJ's shirt??

His shirt looks abysmal. I don't understand why anyone would want to emulate him in terms of clothes (and music).
@@michaeloconnor4247 fuck off
Why didnt you use her for the Dixon/ Gerd Janson interview...
intellectual fella. interesting
41:04 why are they even there
They don't get it haha.
where’s he from?
Tokyo born, British-American+Filipino parents, lives in Berlin, his name is TJ Hertz, (no it's not a joke)

:)
omg moskalus is here
53:02 AHHAHAHAH
omg so annoying they cut out the tracks. amazing interview though
theecho ofnowzzz I know! I looked up the tracks they mentioned before they moved on but I wonder what Feerotation Festival set clip they listened to?
@@phug0id believe she's on about this soundcloud.com/keinobjekt/live-at-freerotation-2017-dj-set 54mins he drops 'it's like that'
do you guys know what is his real name?
TJ Hertz
She was great with Ben UFO too
His first word, "Hi" sounds immediately creative, slightly nervous but also giving.
Does his accent seem kind of American to anyone? Sorry if I offend someone, it's just not what I expected!
mumblerocks77 was thinking the same thing
"Born in Tokyo to British-American and Filipino parents, TJ Hertz grew up in Belgium and the UK before settling in Berlin in 2009"
22:26 the girl in the Reebok shirt and the Polka dot skirt - is that Elizabeth Rose ?? At least she looks a lot like her.
It is!
Wow i wish i had been there, i love her music. How can one join those lectures and/or the academy anyway ?
He sounds Australian?
"Born in Tokyo to British-American and Filipino parents, TJ Hertz grew up in Belgium and the UK before settling in Berlin in 2009"
He probably went to International Schools growing up. Loads of Australian expats prefer to send their kids there rather than domestic schools. Probably the reason why Objekt sounds Australian.
He doesn't sound Australian at all, same language though (English, some call it "Globeish")
I am wondering why on earth these idiots edited out the songs that are being played in this conversation - it kills off the whole momentum and breaks up the overall sense of this broadcast
i agree, but it's because of copyright i believe
So frustrating
Obviously copyright/licensing issues
But he owns the right to pay his own music (or maybe not?)
Sad state when someone isn't "allowed" to play their own music or even own it then !
Either way Red Bull is a multi-million £ operation, if they cant afford to pay a couple of dollars to clear the music on their "music" videos then it's doubly sad !
Weird questions.
too much intellectualizing about the creation and composition ~not my thing
hahaha
Ehhhhhmm... Ummmmm....
Fuck off, he's only human
that tends to happen when you actually have something of substance to say and not just a bunch of clichés and half-assed ideas
Always with the reviews and pros and cons of the interviewing. The mind focuses on the one tree and completely misses the beauty of the entire forest. Maybe then, listen from the Heart at the centre of experience and not just with the top 2% of the body. The surface of the thing is only the surface 🟠🟠🟠⚫⚪🟠
