- The greatest provincial rivalry in South African rugby history has produced some of the greatest rugby moments in rugby. Even if Newlands is no longer going to be there, long may this rivalry last.
In the second of a series of videos, we look back to classic moments between these two giants at Newlands in the 1990's.

1997 was a year of breathtakingly beautiful rugby with flair and skill. Province and the Free State had two very good attacking sides, then who can forget the Boks dismantling of France and the Wallabies the same year...

Can you give specific incidents with specific referees that changed results in the Bulls' favour? Which games are you talking about?
The c rocking of faffa the riot caused by a high tackle on neil burger that caused the game to be called off the ref was Ian Roger's and when the game was replayed at a neutral venue province won and if you want to know the craven stand started that riot I was about 10yrs old and got sprayed with eye gas so yes certain refs like Ian Roger's amd Jimmy Smith belton did really spoil great north south derbies especially the years the currie cup was shared but I can tell you that was the greatest games ever now that once glorious competition is a shadow of itself
My parents raised me on newlands my 1st game was at 6months I am 40years now and will miss that old lady
