Thanks for that. As I may have written before, I would like to do the same trip next year on our 38ft cat. Did you let the French authorities know you were going to stop off at Lifou? I had read that you had to leave from Noumea and maybe stay overnight near the pass, but breaking the trip up at Lifou might be nicer. Thanks
The official response is no you should not stop. In 2019 we had many boats doing exactly as you have asked. It is highly unlikely that anyone will be there to question you, so you should be fine, but it is always a chance you may be inspected. If you are very tired and feel it is unsafe to continue however, then you have a strong argument for why you rested!
