I'm a 2009 118i M Sport hatch owner. Off your list I've had a timing chain, rear ABS rings, 1 set of coil packs, 1 injector in the 9 years I've had it. Admittedly the rear wiper is stuck in the middle at the mo, but it's a pleasure to own, I love driving it. I see no reason to change my car.
What mileage was it that you had to have the chain replacement?
@@barrymichaels2663 It was actually quite low, around the 50k mark. I'm very carful to keep the oil changes up to date since.
Great informative and comprehensove video.
Just please don't put music in the background.
Great video. Lose the music though. Not good for informative videos.
brilliant explanation!
Excelente informacion muchas gracias
THNXS!
Great video, but the music was too loud and annoying.
Turn up volume I didn't have a problem hearing him and music wasn't loud
Thank God I have an old Rover.. don't have to worry about any of those pottential issues. Just the occasional trailing arm bush and Head gasket replacement.. then you are good to go for another 100k. 😊
Is that a joke lol😂
I did have foot well module problem..got the car for 800 spent 56 pound unlocking..the foot well module..worked fine..my gears are pretty still going for the m3 gearbox mounts
There's water ingress here and there, which ends up in various modules, mostly PDC and FRM.
thank you
2007 116i here. 67k miles. I'm pretty sure I have a timing chain issue due to the rattles etc. Wish I lived close to your garage! Need to find someone close that knows what they are doing.

Plz only instrumental songs cause text makes it harder to focus on what is being said.
Check scuttle drain holes or face a wet ecu
2.5k to fix
1.oil leak on oil pan
2. timing chain guides broke and fall in to pickup pipe and cloge it
3. oil pump broke off
4.injectors
5.ABS rings
6.rear wiper leak
all this happen to my 118i and many many more - fixed still running
I don’t have a BMW service center close to me but there is a VW. Can I take my BMW to them for servicing? Since they’re both German companies
around 14:00 ... what's with all the rap music going on? Music to high. Hard to concentrate and hear the guy explain the issues.... sounds like some kinda "bump 'n grind" party wt
Please Please do E90 3 series (335d owner)
All I want for Christmas is my front crank seal
❤
👍👍👍
My 116 wont change gear with the motor running. The clutch was replaced by previous owner but within a couple of months, it wouldn't shift... fine with engine off. Any ideas?
@@liamkenny100 sounds like the clutch plate and bearing are not aligned, failing that could be a gear box issue, with out removing the gearbox and checking i would t be 💯
@itsimty yeah my thoughts too, but I'm not a mechanic. The car was free so could be worth replacing the clutch for around 800 and if no fix, we will sell to recoupe costs.. gearbox recondition is £1200 plus labour and vat 🫣 such a lovely car though 😍
I love my 1 series and dont want to let it go even if i have to do the work myself i have a no start no crank at the min from a flat battery now just every light on the dash and a click / whir sound like a fan then nothing any hints guys battery has 12.8 v after a charge
Any update on the 123d?
Nurburgring booked in May and new video coming very soon nearly there
Thanks mate. Now i'm totally terrified about fuel pump failure.
lol you should be deff check it
@@WhatChuSay I went back to using my Mini cooper for the winter. Rear wheel drive in this weather isn't great. I'll sort it out in the Spring when I got the time money to deal with it.
I’ve got a 2lt diesel fuel pump broke up and buggered injections 😢£2000 bill and now just keep getting dpf going wrong and had it cleaned twice £350 a time!!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated
With you dpf jsut drive at higher rpms it should clean itself.
Avoid small journeys also. And make sure you let it warms up and cool down before setting off and turning the engine fof
I’ve tried the things you suggested but as soon as you go on a small journey say 5 to 10 miles the issue comes back 😔 but thanks for the advice 👍
@@robsalisbury9352 dam. Good luck with it. I had a dpf light come up. A few pulls and higher rpm driving sorted mine. If you can fine somewhere that does “mots” might be worth gutting it and having it remapped out I know there is some things you can put in your diesel that clean the dpf also. Might be worth trying. Also what diesel are you putting it it? If you’re using normal DONT alsways opt for the premium BMWs are ment to be run on premium I also swapped to premium at the same time as it fixed itself I recommend bp premium or shell’s Vpower. It’s suppose to clean your engine at the same time and being a performance fuel and being all round better for the engine. It’s a little bit more expensive but not too much more and can save you paying the big bills like stated. Good luck with it man hope it resolves itself
@@robsalisbury9352 yeah get a different garage ; there is obviously a fault that been missed - vaporiser , temp sensor cracked dpf etc
Does BMW make any good engines these days? These problems could bankrupt an average salary earner! Helpful, clear review though, I'm off to buy Japanese!
bro I have a BMW from 2005 and it is pretty reliable. I had to change the rubber gaskets though because it was leaking oil as well as the throttle body. There is no car without problems. If you don't want to face any problems just take the taxi.
@@lgiorgos1 excellent to hear yours just needs standard maintenance. The ones from the early 2010s are particularly problematic. But thanks for the taxi idea 😂
Timing chain, abs rings, crank position sensor 2012 65k miles. And the auto start hardly ever activates maybe once a month.
Why is the music so loud? We can barely hear the guy
Mine overheats but doesn’t come up as a fault. Anyone else get that?
Very comprehensive, thank you. Looking to get a 1 series coupe and convert it to EV. So a lot of the engine problems won't apply, but still handy to know what mechanical and electrical issues to be aware of
Is the n43 an good engine
Many people complain of its internal parts, have the same engine in my e87 1 series, car has 185k kilometers on the clock and had no problems with the engine, only wear and tear items such as struts failing after 10 years of ownership
Worst car ive ever had 116 thank y
Why?
I’ve got the same car. 2 years now. Only had to change ABS speed sensor and ring and the starter motor thus far in terms of major work.
@@Kofi_Mensahs_BurnerAccount i am planning to buy 116i 2016 model 115000 km ran already, it is okay to buy what would be the maintenance cost in future
@@vinod4604 factor in a potential timing chain change in your plans. Chances are, the car hasn't had good oil changes and even if it has, poor quality oil was used. Check if the electric and power steering recalls have been done. Potential EGR issues and other than that it's generally a great upgrade to the first generation.
Bmw cars are really overated motorbikes are also overated i have a 2022 r1250gsa i reckon it will be unreliable in the long term was considering changing my focus mk2 2.0tdci titanium x for a 1 series coupe think i will stick with my ford
I went from a MK2 Focus to a E87 116. I will never compromise and get a crappy Ford ever again. That Focus couldn’t even last a year.
😂😂😂😂
@@Kofi_Mensahs_BurnerAccount oh dear my focus is reliable
Wow this was very detailed review. I'm just about to take 118d to try it for couple days. Thank you for all info 🤍
