Thank you Coralienya for another great upload .The cogwheels are maybe part of the FUMO i guess..After the war many german soldiers were put in work to clean up in the places they were stationed before they could return home to Germany..It seems they did not finnish the job on the barb wire.😆

I love seeing the places and areas that are not in the history books but were occupied by the Germans during WW2. As huge as the Atlantic Wall was it only took one small weak spot in it to allow the Allied soldiers to enter Europe. Many German positions never saw any action on the Atlantic Wall but that doesn’t mean they weren’t important or needed by the Germans. Surprising how much has survived after the war. Thank you for sharing this small piece of history.

@@coralienya I live in the United States. Most of our history is protected by the park service. You can walk the trails but many of them you can’t leave the trails. I personally explore old farm land where houses use to be and local, and state parks where you’re allowed to used a metal detector. I don’t normally find anything really interesting but I get excited finding an old bottle top ,nail or hinge from an old door. Like finding old farm equipment in the field like a mule chain or disk off an old plow. Maybe one day I’ll find some buried treasure lol.

Hey Miss C . Thank you for your channel . I have watched your family and your father's channel since shortly after he started , I a American veteran of 24 years of service 4 in the US Air Force and the other 19 in the US Army . I have been privileged to visit a few of the sites he has visited . I agree with him they are fantastic., I have been watching yours since the first one and I like your content , but I do have a request of you. . Please keep your mind on safety when and as you are making your explorations . Remember when you're father went down in that bunker into the BAD air please stay safe. You do your research very good and present it even better as for the extreme stuff please remember I am as we say here ( " an OLD FART " ) so don't do anything to outrageous , it may save your father some heartburn to . Hi again 🙂. I'm about half way through the video and already I'm smiling from ear to ear. I always say that the best videos for me are those that make me feel smarter after I've watched them, and this one makes me feel brilliant lol. Seriously, this is truly eye-opening.
The thing is that I've read and watched so many histories of different aspects of World War II, and have gotten the broad brush of those various campaigns and engagements. But very rarely do we get an insight into the day-to-day existence of both occupiers and those being occupied.
And now you've mentioned Jaffa Cakes (spelling?). You are clearly a woman of refined taste 😂 I'm not sure we have those here, though we do have some great treats from the United Kingdom. I'm particularly enamoured of what we call "Marie" biscuits, which I've always dunked in either coffee or tea. But I'm also a fan of chocolate biscuits of any kind hehe.
And finally, thanks again for a truly great, well-researched insight into life along the Atlantic Wall. All the best to you, and I can't wait to see what you have in store next time!

Hi Cora, me again. I really appreciate your videos and the perspective from which you look at the history aspect and how history constitutes not an intrusion but an active element of the living landscape as well as of the changing human societies living (and having lived) on its surface and in interaction with it. This so pleasantly different (intellectually and visually) from all those boring metal detecting videos only focusing on the rarity and/or the prestige value of decontextualized objects.
When I started to become interested in history as a child, this came partly from books, but I got really hooked when I discovered the world surrounding me being something like a giant book-in-progress, consisting also of multiple layers of time.
In the autumn, when the fields were ploughed and it had rained over the naked soil a bit, I could find everything: Roman potshards, 19th century coins as well as flintstone tools which I soon learned to classify because they could range from "only" 5000 years old ones to (sometimes) Neanderthal tools, which had been touched by another human the last time more than 30.000 years ago.
Meanwhile I am more interested in the history of 19th/20th century, probably because that much more directly relates to me. Funnily, I never became really friends with the metal detector. Each time I tried one, I immediately stopped finding interesting things, only some cartridge cases or nails. Just by walking, being curious and reading the landscape I find so many interesting things, and they come from all material classes. And also often coins.
At WW2 places I always try to find the spot where they got rid of their garbage. That´s always somewhere locally and close by, and if they respected the military service regulations (Germans loved them, haha) it´s not a garbage heap but a garbage hole, containing (empty) bottles, food cans, ink glasses, toothpaste and cream tubes (with interesting inscriptions), broken combs, medical garbage like empty glass ampullas and and and... -and in sum altogether, the things in such a hole tell quite a lot about the people behind them.
I hate those people digging for profit. They destroy much and understand nothing.
Already curiously looking forward to your next video, Greetings

Yes, that was a pure pleasure to read and thank you for that! Trashpiles are interesting if you know the story of your area and if you use you mind tactical and read your environment one can really predict where things would be thrown away over time or in unexpected locations. We only find these areas cause we use time and we "scan" the whole area carefully. I have found many of these piles under WW2 metal detecting and surface find so I agree with you and understand what you mean a 100%. As you explained I also like many different types of history behind an area and love to mix it up or blend them or connect them :) Happy to have you here and wish you just happy explores and fun in the outdoors and take care you amazing being

❤ Need to catch up as I have been so busy moving. What an interesting historical site that is. Absolutely mesmerizing! It is so peaceful now, but it would have been so different during war-time. The lighthouse was a little gem and served an important purpose. Thank you so much for the overview as it helps put things into perspective. I hope you enjoyed your coffee and Jaffa cakes 😋. We have McVites & Crvenka orange Jaffa cakes here. Yes, the old familiar German barbed wire. The trenches held up well built with surrounding environmental resources. Thanks for taking us there, Coralienya . I am looking forward to the trash pit metal detecting. ❤

Thanks for a great little explore! Such an awesome, and beautiful, location. And yes, we should never forget the impact that the occupation had on the local population. Where once you could go fishing out to sea, or just off the rocks, all of a sudden there were armed soldiers, and barbed wire, checking everything, and blocking your path. Love the detail of your maps (better than dad's!), and matching up those photo locations was great work. I think in that second photo (at 7:40 in the video), they were standing on the big rock in the centre. So you were pretty spot on with the location! Just loving your explores! Looking forward to even more adventures coming up! Stay safe!

Again an awesome and enjoyable explore, I cannot imagine what how the poulation felt being suffocated under the Nazi regime. But as you pointed out, life had to carry on, and I am sure that the secret resistance paid a heavy price too. November 1945 would have been a real life changing event for the locals that's for sure. The lighthouse was indeen beautiful. Just imagine a manpower of 75 were involved in building that beautiy. Location does look familiar. Great catch as that is indeed history for sure. I heard that in most cases the regular German soldiers teated the locals respectfully. As it was war, it would still be understandably unsettling. Would have awesome to see the original German MG and radar system. Sneaky having the bunker under an ordinary house. Thanks for another adventure 👍 You must do a lot of research beforehand.
Jaffa cakes aren't really well known in the US. I've been to Europe several times, but I'm not sure I've ever tried them. If I did, I didn't know what they were called.

Wreckdiver,- thank you for being here as always! Yes, have to make sure I understand my environment and the traces of the past! One day we will have Jaffa and coffee :P Take care and thanks again! Coralienya//BBG
