That is among the reasons I am attempting to focus on reusable items made out of glass or metal. Glass is more recyclable than metal, but at least they are both more recyclable than paper and plastic.
And yeah, paper is biodegradable, but that still isn't a good excuse.

I really wish these resin codes (very appropriate name) were actually used more. Like the councils 'recycling guide' that talks about meat trays and yoghurt pots, but never simply says "yes to 1, 2, 4 and 7, no to all others". Then governments make the codes compulsory, even for films of plastic (they can be inked on), suddenly you really could exclude non-recyclables as a purchase decision.

I drink a lot of water myself, but I've noticed that for the people who were raised in a family that always had flavoured drinks, they have to push past that consciously. A lot of people don't seem to want to.
If I drank a glass of orange squash as a kid (cordial), and then immediately followed it up with some water, the water would taste a bit bad just because of the comparison. It tasted plain and therefore, unenjoyable. Same kind of "eugh" reaction as drinking orange juice just after brushing your teeth - the comparison of the two flavours is what tastes bad?
Problem is, these people who never drank plain water as kids (due to lack of access, childhood stubbornness, or whatever) don't *know* what a plain glass of water is like. They are always comparing it to something sweet and flavourful, which it will never live up to - for obvious reasons.
I moved to a different area with harder water and I did not like it when I first arrived, but I love plain water, so eventually I worked out that if I put ice in it it'd "cover up" the mineral taste. And now I actually like it, just because I drank it enough to get used to it!! So I know it's doable... you just have to try. But a lot of people don't want to push past the initial "eugh" and do that. Which is kinda sad.

Water definitely has a taste and the tastes differ by region you get the water from. I’m fine with it plain but prefer it flavoured, like with some lemon, etc.
Sometimes I wonder if some people genuinely can’t taste the flavours in these things, and it’s like a weird genetic difference or something. I’ve wondered if it could be an “untrained palate” issue where they just can’t detect more “nuanced” flavours, but I don’t think that’s it. Maybe it’s like how people think of vanilla ice cream as being plain ice cream even though it’s literally flavoured with vanilla; like, maybe people just consider it flavourless because they see it as the neutral default?
