  • In this webinar, Jennifer J. Carroll, PhD, MPH discusses how law enforcement is deeply involved in public health responses to drug use. They implement 911 Good Samaritan laws, deploy and distribute naloxone, perform outreach to overdose survivors, and even distribute fentanyl test strips. Ending overdose requires an all-hands-on-deck strategy. But where do these hands, hands that wield coercive police powers, belong in the response-if they belong at all? This talk will discuss current research on law enforcement involvement in public health responses to substance use, outlining the challenges and consequences of police partnerships, police initiatives, and alternative policing strategies that are spreading rapidly across the United States.
    Recorded May 27, 2021.
