What did Timo Boll do after a devastating loss? He picked up Truls' racket from the floor, went to congratulate the Swedish team, and handed the racket back to Truls. What a legend! What a role model! He's now officially my favorite player. ❤

I was in the same table tennis club as Truls when he started out as a kid (around 6 years old iirc?). I put the paddle on the shelf a long time ago but it's been SUPER cool to see his journey from being this kid from a very small town in Sweden just starting out to beating Timo Boll to grab our first european championship gold in so long. Huge congrats!
That's cool. Hope you played against Truls back then and now can truthfully claim that beating Truls used to be a daily routine for you.
Timo fighting spirit is unrivaled. What a true fighter Timo is. Respect to the German who plays 2 times with very tight scores against Falk and Truls.
I am Swedish, i always root for my country, but Timo is also my second favourite player of all time right after J-O Waldner, his longevity at the top of the game, his absolut class act and sportsmanship, extremly strong mental strength and ability to turn what looks like complete losses into wins makes him a still playing and living legend, very well played by Truls, and Sweden truly do deserve this after having had a total table tennis drought for over 20(!) years were finally winning (sometimes ;) on the big stage again.

On a sidenote (not to diminish the Swedish victory) I just need to write that the top class player field in Germany is so broad, that they easily could have reached the European Final with 2 teams and play the Final among themselves with the absent Team A: Dang Qiu, Ovtcharov, Franziska, Filus versus this Team B: Boll, Duda, Stumper, Walther.
Sweden earned it this time though and this Final will go down in history as one of the best and most intense!

What a great match! You can never count out Timo, but I don't think I've ever seen Truls play with such confidence before. Once he got locked in, he looked unstoppable.

After joining the China super league recently, Truls skills had improve quite abit so is his composure, temperament, concentration.
Timo does not seem to be able to beat him. Truls has a good trackrackord. Too bad, would have loved to see the comeback victory for Timo.
If they played against each other in 2018 or 2019...
Earlier in the tournament Timo could have crushed him, but his endurance has ran out. Still what a legend, playing this well at that age..

I am german and Timo supporter. In my opinion it is finally time for him to retire. If he retires now he will remembered as the second best european table tennis player ever (J. O. Waldner being no. 1).

So sad that after such an epic game between two great players, Truls did not even briefly acknowledge his opponent’s contribution at the end before celebrating with his team. Lost respect for him however good he may be.

They are ongoing intensive training for the olympics with dang qiu as well

It’s crazy how bad contemporary European players are. Timo is still very competitive.
Waldner and Persson were competetive into their 40s too, Persson got to olympic semis in 2008 at 43.
Ma Long still beating top chinese players at 35. Doesn't mean the competition is weak.
Timo is very talented and has a very efficient playing style, that's all.
@@torsteinholtz1535Waldner and Persson were also competitive because the next generation was much weaker. Same for Samsonov and Timo. Ma Long is very strong at 35, but Timo is not 35. There is no way players in their 40s should be remotely competitive in a sport like table tennis. Plus we have to remember - at the time when Persson or Waldner were competing (and when Timo was at the height of his career) people would generally retire from any sport at 27-28. So there's just no way.
@@torsteinholtz1535Boll has always been plagued by injuries because he twists his back when looping.I wouldn't call his game efficient.
And most Euro players that were born after the early 1970 never got the same amount of training the Europeans went through in the 80's.
Moregard himself has terrible knee problems,he tries to max out his serve-receive but I don't see him beating players in rallies.
If you watch Waldner /Perssonbeating young Euro players they had better technique and even their footwork was superior.Samsonov had good all-round technique but he was physically inferior to guys like Primorac/Persson.
TT is not much valued outside China,in the 80's it became an Olympic sport and Federations got some money which helped developing some formidable players.Since the 90's it has been stale.
Truls does not know how to shake hand, i think everybody in this leaguw except timo. Arrogant, disrespectful and too much bravado.
So the winning team are not allowed to hug and cheer for a short while before they exhanged hand shakes?
