I’m working on videos for every song on the self-titled album. If you have any suggestions or corrections for any of these videos, message me if you know me or leave a comment and I’ll update the video as soon as I can.
I’m still learning, and I’m trying my best to do all these songs justice. Hopefully these videos can be helpful to anyone who wants to learn them.

Man, you're doing one of the biggest favors to all elliott smith's fans and future elliott smith fans, thanks !
Also the only person I have notifications on for as well lol
There was a time where good to go was my favorite song on the album. I guess I've never realized nobody else talked about it.
The entire self titled record is a masterpiece. At first it was just a couple of the songs that I listened to but it didn't take so long for every other great song to grow on me.
Hard agree on the hidden gem status of this song. It's always been one of my favs, and one of my favs to play.
That chorus vocal line is gorgeous, and the simplicity of the guitar part with how fun and interesting it is can't be understated.
Thanks for this one!
Also the comparison to House of the Rising Sun is crazy, I never thought about that but it seems so obvious now. Elliott was a big fan of Britpop like you mentioned but he also covered older country songs live on occasion (Hank Williams and such) so that makes perfect sense. There's always something to learn with him.
Fantastic video as always!! For some reason the chorus to Good to Go has always strongly reminded me of the guitar part to no name #1 right after the opening hook.
this might be the best channel on this hellsite
I love the idea that you just woke one morning with the desire to make these videos. Thank you so much man!, haven't lost any of them since Needle in the hay.
So glad a talented elliott smith fan has a channel like this. Elliott Smith blows my mind to this day, even though I've been listening to him incessantly for like ten years. His songs can be challenging to figure out and play btu very rewarding. Then there is the whole thing of trying to sing his songs. He was talented on so many levels; he is endlessly inspirational.
Edit: Also, good job! this sounds fantastic! Thank you so much for your videos!
3:50 I’ve always called them 'campfire chords' …the basic open chords on guitar any joe blow would know.
I'm yet another person who overlooks this one. I'm sure it would get more love if the other 11 songs on the album weren't absolutely perfect. But it's still pretty damn good and deserves attention. Great video!
Hope you're doing well fella. Waiting like a child before Christmas for the last two the past couple weeks, best guitar vids out there thank you for doing this! Incredible job!
god bless u man love this project u helped me learn clementine and imma keep going through ur series, ur awesome man
these videos are incredible and the progress in the edits and function is also impressive. all the best.
This series of videos is so wonderful. Like I new there was something about this song but the fact that you took the time to figure out the exact guitar part makes it so much easier for us, fans. Thank you, really.
stepping up the thumbnail game i see.
Gotta stay on top
Love your serie, been picking up the guitar to follow every one your videos and finally learning how to play these songs properly. Looking forward to you covering the rest of the albums too if you have the energy :)
Another incredible video nailing all the finer details, love this project!
I’ve been trying to learn this album specifically since it came out - I’m in heaven right now, thank you so much for doing this justice. You should see the silly way I came up with to try play The White Lady from some crazy geocities tabs 20 years ago hahaha
I appreciate the heck out of this. ❤ Thanks man!!
Project New Moon channel slaps. That’s how I learned my own bastardized version of First Timer.
A friend of mine living in new york has a setlist from a live show Elliott Smith wrote on the back of one of his own personal checks. The front has "VOID" written largely across it but is written out to "pay to the order of Dr Frankenstein." Also his real name Steven Paul Smith is on the front. I was told he paid $2000 for it after it was authenticated in 2011. Very cool to see in person.
Enjoyed your video a lot dude! I’m glad someone is out here transcribing these amazing guitar parts.
I have one suggestion: when I play this song, during the chorus instead of a regular C chord on ‘hers’, I slide up into this chord: x35050 (like a c7 without the barre). It sounds closer to the recording to my ear and adds to that eerie suspended feeling ES was so great at
Please do Condor Ave!!!!
this has always been one of my favorite songs, these videos are great fr
good to go is one of my favs because it reminds me of me
Man, you and this project are like heaven coming down to earth and blessing us with all the shared love for Elliot and his music, finally someone who not only shares but meticulously teaches us how to play his songs with all of their wonderful details. This might very well be on of the best things ever uploaded to CZcams, I feel like this is what the internet was made for, to my taste anyway ⊂(^‿◉)つ. Thank you so so much!! I would be absolutely delighted if you would teach and talk about more of his other songs in the future, maybe even cover another entire album, though I understand that this kinda stuff is a lot of work.
I’m having a real tough time in life right now and these videos are one of the shining stars that keep me smiling. Love from Germany
I do put alot of work into these videos, but besides the enjoyment I get from the work and the music itself, comments like these make it all more than worth it. I'm sorry to hear you've been having a tough time. You definitely aren't alone, and I'm hoping the hard times pass soon - they always do. Thanks so much for the support, and please keep the suggestions coming! This project will definitely be continuing in some form after this album 🤘
Everything reminds me of her is really good too
Just found you! This is amazing.
Your channel is a hidden gem, man ❤
Elliott smith is one of the best guitar players, you can really hear his piano skills come through in his complex guitar arrangements. He seems to have really gotten into some nice drum parts too later in his career, I feel like we just missed him showing his complete potential in being amazing at each instrument in his songs. His vocal harmonies and Melodie’s were also top tier.
You're my hidden gem bb
got a question, will you be doing more albums? if so which? love the effort put into the content by the way
Good job
Will you also be doing Elliott's other albums? No worries if not, but I'd love to see you do this process for Roman candle, as I feel tracks like last call and the titled Roman candle doesn't get enough credit. Feel free to ignore this though. Love your videos
I just might 🤘🏻thanks for supporting!
@@_E_S_P I'll be here for it if you do man. Thanks 🙏
@@_E_S_P another suggestion would be to not do a whole album at a time but whatever individual Elliott song you or your subs want you to do. And do one once a week or so.
The first Bob Dylan album also has House of the rising Sun
This is definitely in the minority of songs of Elliott's that I basically never listen to, can't quite pinpoint why. I think it's a bit meandering, doesn't quite have any eye-catching chord changes which are my main draw for elliott smith. Also just had a listen, is it weird to say that the chorus sounds very taylor swift like??
Alphabet town drove me nuts trying to learn to play 😂
Once in a while, I will come across a video that I don't remember watching and I will see a comment that I totally agree with, and I will go to click the like button and see that it was my own comment from months or years ago 😂😂😂
Are you sad winter hat season is dying? I know I am...
Waiting for something that's not coming...
Could have been a hero if I wasn't such a zero and then all the dipsy doodles and quiet twists and turns at the same time
Bought the book, you’re doing the lord’s work. Keep it up.
ya what now?! 00:28
Dude you Rock! I’ll admit this Song is my least favorite off the album. I think I only dislike it because of the “if I wasn’t such a zero” part. I think Elliott is an amazing lyricist but I think he has a FEW clumsy lyrics is all. The guitar and arrangement are beautiful, as well as the vocal melody. I just think the other songs are so strong that they kinda outshine this one. Not a bad song though.

what is the strumming pattern on the chorus part and 2nd verse?
It changes alot but [Down, Down up Down], with the downs on onbeats would be a good one to start with!
what is an onbeat
