  • In this episode of The Black American Orthodox Experience, Fr. Samuel Davis speaks with Fr. Moses Berry about his experiences, what he's learned, and what he would do differently as a pioneer and lifelong servant in ministry.
The Black American Orthodox Experience is a program focused on Orthodox missions in America-insights, challenges, and how we can reach (and are reaching) members of Black, Indigenous, and other communities with the Church of Jesus Christ. Our goal is to feature honest and informative conversations about what the Great Commission looks like in modern America within a historical and cultural context.

I am sad that I never got to meet Father Moses on this side of eternity before his repose. He's one of the first voices I heard from Orthodoxy that drew me towards the Church. May his memory be eternal.

When I was warming up to Orthodoxy late last year. His video on how he discovered Orthodoxy really touched me. May he be blessed in memory eternal 🙏☦️🖤

That was so beautiful. Fr. Moses, thank you for sharing your honesty and you heart the way you did hear. Christ is speaking through you to my heart. When you confessed some of the mistakes you made and have learned from by God's grace, it gives me hope for my own failings to be forgiven and to learn from. It is rare to hear priests and leaders sharing personal mistakes humbly like that, and then how the Lord gave the opportunity for greater understanding and healing to come about, like in the Chicago airport or with the priest who spoke insensitively to your son. On that one I really like how you taught your son to still behave respectfully regardless, and to let you as his father defend him. That's a better way of handling such things, rather than getting confrontational. It's wiser than the macho way, and actually shows more strength and intelligence. The culture teaches us to show strength outwardly and aggressively, whether through bravado or clever verbal comebacks, but your way is actually much more powerful spiritually. In the end you defeated both those "enemies" by bringing them to repentance, and gained friends and brothers in the end. Thank you again for sharing these personal stories, and to you Fr. Samuel for this excellent podcast and interview. All praise to the Most High, our Lord Jesus Christ, and gratitude to each of you and the GOA for hosting the podcast.
