      Hello Karen, as you asked previously, I'm sending you this message, as I am now able to let you know where you can buy most of the products that I used in my jewellery video #175. As I've been getting heaps of requests about where I buy my settings etc, I decided that the best way to do this was to become an Amazon Affiliate. By doing this, in the information area below the video, I have been able to put links to where people can find the same product if the Amazon in their country has it. I get a small commission if anyone buys from one of the links.

      Thanks heaps Shelli 💓. I have found that the settings available seem to change now and then and if there's something new that I think people will like I get them, as it's good to have different settings to keep customers interested. (I sell most of them through a local art and craft shop) YT no longer seem to let us know when new videos are posted for people we have subscribed to. It is annoying. It could also be that I have had long breaks between posting at times. Thank you for noticing my cover painting. In the beginning of creating the group, I alternated the cover photo with art creations that members were posting but then I realised that it would be better to have one permanent pic, so that members would find it easier to find the group. So I decided to use one of mine and it has stayed.

      Hi Julie, Thank you so much for your kind feedback. That makes me feel very happy. Yes, you can use any acrylic paint for this. Just don't add any silicone, or suchlike, to your paints as the oil would likely stop the paint from adhering properly to the glass cabochon. If you are new to acrylic pouring, the way to make your acrylic paint more fluid is to add a 'medium' to it. I use Floetrol (US is fine) and some people use Liquitex medium and some use PVA glue ~60% mixed with ~40% water. It's important not to use too much water, as that will break the bonds which hold the pigments together in the paint. Have fun! Alison Hood 💕

    These are gorgeous! I’m just trying to learn how to do this. So I assume you have the Flotrol are added into each cup of paint, correct? Wondering what is your ratio of paint to flow medium? Thanks so much!!

    • @artwithalison
      @artwithalison  Před rokem

      Thank you Angie. As I am in Australia, I use the Aussie Floetrol. As different paints have different consistencies, I no longer use ratios. Instead I add the Floetrol until I get the consistency I am after. Here is a link to my video #161 which shows how I mix my paints: czcams.com/video/AnzC-zqeq2g/video.html
      If I am using Liquitex Basics, it is probably 2 parts Floetrol to one part paint. For the jewellery, I have it at the consistency in this video. It is a little on the thick side, so that it makes a small mound on a mound and leaves a trace for a few seconds.
      I hope this helps.
      Cheers, Alison

      @artwithalison  Před 8 měsíci

      Hi there, Thank you. I usually wait a week or two before gluing. It also depends on what the weather is like as it gets very hot here in summer and so dries pretty quickly. As the amount of paint on the cabs is quite thin, it doesn't need nearly as much time to cure as a pour painting does. I use the E6000 glue and it sets well enough after 24 hours to sell. Have fun with it.

      Thank you for your kind words. If you are absolutely sure the sides will be hidden, you probably don't need to remove the paint. Though, you would still need to be sure that there is no paint that has gone over the top. Also, often the trays are a tad bigger than the cabochons, so much so that you could still see the sides after they were glued in. I hope that you have started to give this a go. It is very rewarding.

      Hi Marian, thank you for your kind comments. Yes, I do use metallic acrylic paint. The DecoArt Extreme Sheen (DAES) paints, I feel, are the best ones, as they give wonderful cells. In this pour I am using the DAES 24K Gold, Amethist and PInk Tourmaline. I mix the DAES very thickly, as in a lot more paint to the medium; approx 3 parts paint to one part medium. Yes, I am definitely fortunate to have access to the Australian Floetrol. One of the artists that I watch the most is Sarah Mack. She gets amazing results from the US Floetrol in her amazing pours. I don't know if it's easier for you to get the US one. I hope that you do give it a try. It is really very easy to do and very rewarding. Gorgeous work, I pour skins but this seems like a good idea. How long do you leave to cure before putting into bezel? Also does paint ever come away from cabochon?

    • @artwithalison
      @artwithalison  Před rokem +3

      Hi Andi, yes, I find this a lot easier than using skins. If you are in a hot climate, they only need a few days to cure as there's not much paint on them. In colder climates, it would probably be best to wait two or three weeks before gluing. The paint can come away from the cabochon if you peel it off with your fingernail, or if you soak the cabochon in water. You do need to be careful when scaping the excess paint off the sides not to slip and go under the cabochon, taking the paint off the bottom. Though, I've not found this to be a problem. I think that I only did that once when I was first starting doing them. If you don't like how any have turned out, you can soak them and the paint just comes away, leaving the cabochon like new again. Once they are glued in, I've not had any problems. I've even worn a ring for weeks, forgetting about when I washed my hands. It was never a problem and stayed looking amazing - until one of my dogs chewed it up!

I already have some of the rotating crescent moon trays. I can't wait to use them. Do you have any issues with your cabochons separating from your acrylic paint after setting in the bezel tray? Do you use E6000 to attach the cabochons to the bezel tray? I've read that Diamond Glaze will not hold them for long term, which is what I was going to use.

      Hi Julia, I haven't tried it with the glue and water medium. I'd be interested to know how it goes. I buy me findings from Amazon Australia. Here is the link: www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09FYS64V4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
      To make sure that the paint doesn't come away from the cabochon, it is important to clean the bezel as well as the cabochon with rubbing alcohol. This will remove any oils that may be on them. I've never had a problem with this happening.
      Yes, I use E6000. It is very strong and works very well. I've never had them come apart. I sometimes us the Diamond Glaze to seal the paint on the back of the cabochon a few days before gluing.

      @artwithalison  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hello ShriyaAnupam, Thank you very much for your kind comments. Yes, I do mix medium into the Extreme Sheen (ES) paints. I use Floetrol as my medium and, with the ES paints, I keep the viscosity heigh (thick) and mix the ES paints at about a 3:1. That is three parts paint to just one part Floetrol. I use Australian Floetrol but I don't think that there would be much difference from US Floetrol for this type of of pour. Wishing you well with your creations, Alison Hood from Western Australia
