- This video is the NBC Sports broadcast of Game 2 of the 1971 World Series between the Pirates and Orioles, with Baltimore prevailing at Memorial Stadium, 11-3, on Oct. 11.
Baltimore pounded six pitchers for 14 hits (all singles) and 11 runs, led by three hits and four RBIs by Brooks Robinson. Jim Palmer pitched seven shutout innings and aided his win by drawing two bases-loaded walks.
The reason I personally posted this game, aside from the fact that it's called by the great Curt Gowdy, my favorite baseball broadcaster, is to get it onto one file, something I hadn't been able to find on CZcams. Copyright, Major League Baseball, NBC, or any other party; I did not create, do not claim the rights to, and do not profit from, this video. I just posted for historical and educational purposes, and for those who will enjoy it as much as I did.

This is a little easier to watch than the other version on here. Thanks for all your posts, I'm on a 1970s/80s World Series binge
Day Time World Series Games**** God I Miss the 1970's*****
Just to see Roberto Clemente in action is worth watching this video thanks for posting
You're welcome! Nobody had quicker bat speed!
This is an amazing discovery because it includes the Orioles half of the 5th inning where six runs are scored. It had thought to be lost. Not even the official MLB highlights of the 1971 World Series has the 5th inning. I'm so elated somebody found it and put it in its rightful place in game 2. Thank you very much Mr. Goodwin.
Well how about that! I can't take any credit other than finding it on CZcams, but if anybody knows the story ...
@@petegoodwinboston4825 I traded with a collector for that Pirates game about 13 years ago never expecting it would be missing that inning. When I asked what happened he said that's how he got the game. Offered me another game to go with it free. I'm sure anybody can tell the quality of your copy was perfect until the 5th inning. It suddenly turned into a not so great picture then returned to perfection in the 6th inning. That's the insertion of the missing piece. Still good enough quality to enjoy. Thanks again.
@@kentduryea7109 Awesome! Glad you finally found it! How bout that Clemente throw? And Palmer with two bases loaded walks, 2 RBIs! Baseball!
@@petegoodwinboston4825 Watching tapes of great games is great, they are their own little story. That is second to learning about The Christ and Lord God, so I can improve as a person, and thereby stop all these criminals anti American and anti family evils
@@petegoodwinboston4825Pete what channel did you get this on out of curiosity? I don't see any other versions so I assume it was deleted. Thanks again for posting
Thanks so much for posting this. The sound of Curt Gowdy announcing Steeler playoff games in the '70's still gives me the chills. I loved that guy. And Dick Enberg after him. I loved those years when NBC had the AFC. I can still hear Gowdy calling Stabler dropping back into the pocket to throw when a playoff game was on the line. I just knew in the pit of my stomach somewhere downfield Biletnikoff or Branch were getting free. On the edge of my seat with Gowdy calling the action. Those were the days.
Those were the days, indeed! The pipes and the knowledge ... Curt was my favorite!
Chuck Thompson had the best voice I have ever heard
Very nice; perfectly suited for baseball!
I still can't watch the O's or even ride into Baltimore without thinking of Chuck Thompson.
Interesting how infrequently the centerfield camera was used in this game.
Watched as a 10 year old growing up in Maryland.
Favorite Oriole?
@@petegoodwinboston4825 Brooks, was always so nice and personable to us kids when he visited our school on several occasions. I actually remember thinking that Buford and Blair seemed shy LOL Mark Belanger was nice and loved to sit and chat with us kids about our little league teams like they were important to him. As kids, we thought they were, and he understood completely.
@@GrayShadow13 Great memories!
A national tragedy that the Orioles didn't win this World Series.
It was a national tragedy in 1970 when Brooks Robinson literally kept the Cincinnati Reds from winning the World Series
......they should have taken the 79 series too, their bats always go cold at the most inopportune times
@@timfremstad3434 That's exactly true.
3 games to 1 lead ,and they lost 3 straight
It was a tragedy that the Orioles lost the 1969 World Series and that the Colts lost Super Bowl 3 in January of 1969
My favoriye Club Orioles, my fav. Stadium Memorial stadium. Horray. 🇺🇸⚾😃🤠 Al vs. NL. Before baseball.got trashed.on purpose by this goof in there. Puts a clock in, and everything else....
I agree....Baseball sucks today !!!.....The Money these "Clowns" get today have ruined the game along with jewelry, tattoos and beards !!!!
Chuck Thompson (PBP) & Curt Gowdy (C) 1st half

I was at that game. 11 years old, I took the Metroliner from NY (I hated the Mets ever since that series) and stayed with family friends. Box seat tickets on the third baseline (my grandfather was a Hall of Fame player and got great tix all the time). Anyway, we went waaaay waaay up behind 22 until a meaningless three runs late. I still hate Kison, Blass and Clemente to this day. We shoulda won all three Series from 69-71. Think about it: the team we had with FOUR 20 game winners was the worst of the three and would finished at least 7 games behind the other two. That 69 team was better than the 61 Yanks...
I can't stand the Mets either! Who was your grandfather? The Orioles are good again this year and I can't name one of their starting pitchers! Not quite like 69!
hating opposing players for doing their job...hmm mature
