5:09 Not that it makes a big difference to its usefulness, but you failed to mention that Detect Invisibility also allowed you to see players that had used a potion of invisibility from the alchemist profession. The buff could also be used as a buffer/shield to protect your more valuable buffs from being removed by a shaman's Purge ability, taking the first bullet so to speak.

One useful thing you could do with Detect Invisibility: there were lvl 60 passive ghost mobs in the Ruins of Lordaeron and Raven Hill Cemetary. You could only see them with detect invisibility, so warlocks had an easy way to farm soul shards at max level without flying all the way to a high lvl zone.

No way for me to do that, partner, everyone is going to be try harding, I will be ignoring all messages, using people to get my quests done and level all the time without stopping, ever!, people that say that they will "play it slowly", "at their own pace" and "take their time", you don't understand, you don't get it, you will be left behind the natural curve and flow of the game and won't enjoy it as much, that's what happens if we play with people sick on the head that wants to just play end game.
You won't be able to play it slow and expect to enjoy the game at it's fullest, it's just not hapoening, specially in this day and age with the new generation of gamers who want everything done fast, and specially with the current retail toxic community (it's worse than Dota 2 and Lol toguether).
I wish I could play it slowly, but the current World of warcraft community won't allow such playstyle, I know this for a fact, not because I'm smarter than you or anyone else reading this and can easily predict it, but because I have lived through the most elitists cunts in current World of warcraft, people that won't tolerate the slightest mistake and kick you in the blink of an eye from a raid, even if you say it's your first time in it, people will also abuse the layering for said elitists, who want to look cool than everyone else, be on top and treat people like crap (toxic current players), I also don't see most of the old veterans like myself who played vanilla when it launched, coming back to the game to play it as "it was intended to be played (in other words, stopping and enjoying the world and socialicing), most of us are on our 20s and 30s, have a family to take care, work and kids, and don't have the time to play World of warcraft as it was back then with all the grind, it's been 15 years, most of us have moved on with our lives, so I don't see us compensating for the current players with bad maners, most of us don't have the time required to play.
So I know the advice to play it slow and enjoy it, it's not smart, in fact, it's very stupid, specially in this fast paced day and age with this very community, so be smart like me, you either adapt or be punished, cheers.

i would say you missed the main point of "eye of the beast" wich is to use it for any jumps in any dungeon or raid. You jump with you pet befor your hunter to not use dismiss and call beast. The reason why this is pretty usefull is you wont make the pet pull the entire dungeon and you dont need to feed your pet again. Since now you need to feed the pet to get it happy and have 125% dmg on it.

Eyes of the Beast was HUGELY used in raids like Molten Core to pull certain bosses, like Geddon, all the way back to Garr's room. The hunter would go tag the boss with their controlled pet, then click off the buff and the boss came trotting right back to the waiting raid

  • @Arli3n
    @Arli3n Před 5 lety +5

10: Eyes of the beast: Mainly removed because it could be exploited the same way as sentry totem and when used mid fall could make hunters immune to fall damage.
9: Detect magic: also needed to see enemy / boss CASTING BARS. This more than anything was the most important use of detect magic. For Casted boss abilities it gave your tank that extra 1/2 second to respond to some abilities.
5: Perception was incredibly useful. You could see rogues extremely easily and HoJ them. Also there were various stealthed mobs that you could attack and pop out of stealth.
4: Turn undead also initially worked on all undead players. Shortly after launch player undead characters were changed to "Forsaken" type.
3: Manaburn was also needed for various boss fights and AoE pack fights especially in Naxx 40 or AQ 40? don't remember which.
1: DI: The initial time on the bubble was 30 seconds, also since zones didn't go into combat, using DI on someone and removing them from combat could allow people with a res to res people while the rest of the raid was still in combat.
Also fun things to remember: Most buff spells required reagents. Even shamans' Ankh ability. Paladin blessings were 5 minutes and had to be recast on each raid member every 5 minutes, unless you speced specifically for the salvation buff which then would last 15 minutes, and only the salvation blessing had an extended duration. Spell ranks are another thing that is completely missing from the current game. Down ranking spells to conserve mana.

Instant poison was the first to go.
Because after the creation of Arena, some rogues in mixed combat/Assassination spec were completely destroying 1-2 players at a time by abusing Shiv, because it instantly applied poison damage on top of specialized off hand strikes that generate more energy upon hit.
      Fun times.
So, to clarify- off hand heavy slow weapons and slow main hand dagger with Cold Blood right out of stealth- backstab, extra energy, shiv, shiv, shiv, shiv, max combo points, cold blood, finisher- shiv shiv shiv shiv shiv shiv shiv......
Very few arena teams could withstand this amount of damage so fast on top of Kidney Shots, Blinding Powders, vanished, cloak of shadows etc...

One note for the mana burn abilities and Arcane Torrent: It's worth mentioning that Blood Elf racials worked a lot differently in BC. They originally had two separate activated racials that worked together:
Mana Tap - 30 sec cd, burned some of the target's mana and gave the BElf a stack of Arcane Energy, up to 3 stacks (spell and buff removed in Wrath)
Arcane Torrent - 2 min cd, silenced (didn't interrupt) all enemies within 8 yards, and restored mana/energy based on the number of stacks of Arcane Energy you had (flat resource restore added when Mana Tap removed, interrupt part wasn't added until 3.2)

Mage had two buffs that could be self applied or applied to other friendly players .
    Amplify magic and dampen magic.
Amplify would increase the effect of all spells that hit the player, both damage AND heals. Dampen did the opposite.
They had use situationally (e. G amplify when fighting a melee only boss, to increase healing received). They could also be used for griefing, to increase someone's magic damage taken or decrease their healing received, this plus the fact that many players didn't understand when to use either spell, meant that they were inevitably removed.
Shame, it was nice to have the tool for niche uses.

Another good mention is Druid 'soothe' ability. While it currently exists in the game as a "remove all enrage effects" spell, previously in Classic it decreased the threat range of beasts. This was actually incredibly useful, as it allowed some dungeon and even raid groups to bypass entire mob groups entirely.
Also innervate used to regen mana instead of giving the caster mana-less spell costs for spells for its duration.
And wtf HEALING TOUCH?!? no mention of that?!

  • @Todie85
    @Todie85 Před 5 lety +12

    Eyes of the beast, R.I.P.
Actually, it was removed because twinks in certain brackets of Arathi Basin used it to mess with players.
To the point that one hunter could guard the mine and make it look like no one was there.
Even if it was an abused mechanic that allowed some Nelf hunters to be completely stealthy and destroy some badly equipped lowbies, it was no reason to ultimately get rid of it, because in higher ranking pvp, it wasn't possible to have the same effect.
Blizzard said it in the forums when they removed it, it was part of their reasoning for getting rid of it.
When I protested it, a lot of people added their comments about the low rank pvp issues, and confirmed it; so because of a few bad experiences players would have against a handful of skilled players who invested weeks worth of running certain twinks they created using higher level accounts or friends with higher level characters, with the express purpose of having some fun because they could in the lv 39 bracket of AB and Warsong gulch, Blizzard only response was to remove the ability.
Because who needs fun in a Blizzard game.

Not everything is useful, Not everything has to be. Being cool is often enough. This is what Blizzard has forgotten. Their constant attempts to refine the balance of the game has them so focused on spreadsheets and stats that they forget sometimes people just wanna do dumb pointless cool things, like summon a Doomguard and tame it.
The game feels to clinical and a lot of the niche abilities added flavor to the game. It's like the difference between a nutrient rich paste and a four course meal. Both may contain all the body needs to survive but one is a lot more enjoyable to eat.

Eye of the beast was actually a critical ability. For example, if you want to fight baron geddon or shazzrah, you need to fight them in Garr's room. There is a very long hallway between Geddon/Shazzrah and Garr's room. Your tanks has a very high chance to get killed trying to pull the boss, then run to the other room. The much safer way to pull is let a hunter use eye of the beast and go aggro the boss, the boss put the entire zone in combat and after it kills the pet, it comes to the raid, then the tank can safely pick it up.

idk if its just me but like i think ritual of doom would be a really cool thing to bring back as a burst CD for warlocks, maybe though instead of taking 4 warlocks and killing one, be something like it only requires 2 or 3 players, maybe 2 warlocks, maybe the warlock and one or maybe 2 other players that doesnt have to be a warlock, or like 2 warlocks and one other player, and instead of being an instant kill for one of them, its an instant 75% health damage ability or something so that the person doesnt just die outright. So it could be a little mini rp aspect while still being a sort of practical ability, acting as a burst damage sort of demon that only lasts for like 30 seconds to a minute but does fairly heavy damage in return for the sacrifice? idk i feel like it could totally be brought back because like as a person who really likes the cool silly novelty role play aspects of wow, id love go actually see this it would be so fun.

Hunters were a 1-button class in BC and a 2-button class in Vanilla. Hell, Ret paladins were arguably a 0-button class in Vanilla. What they did was remove a bunch of hyper-situational abilities that they felt did little beyond take up action bar space. This was true to SOME extent, but I understand people who feel they went to far. Eyes of the beast was extremely useful for farming dungeons. You could use it to pull large groups with your pet so your character didn't have to take the damage rounding them up. Then you cancel the spell, resummon your pet, and AoE them all down once they get back to your character. I used it with a gorilla pet to pull all mobs in DM up to the locked doors, large portions of SM, any lower level dungeon basically. Also I believe it was mentioned recently that the spell was removed due to a bug they didn't want to fix.

I used ritual of doom a lot in WoLtK BGs, during prep. There were a lot of idiots who can`t read and assumed i`m making healthstone table. It didn`t actually kill target per se, it just dealt 20-30k damage - which, in vanilla and even BC would be lethal for sure, but not in WoLtK. Very useful pet, with it`s WC3 abilities! Cripple alone was extremely effective! At least until you die. Still fun, though.
Um, also, why didn`t you mention Windwall totem? The one that decreased damage from ranged atacks? Also, warlock`s Curse of Idiocity deserves mentioning, at least for its name. It decreased targets spirit and intellect every few seconds, up to 180 points after .. 3 minutes for max effect, i think, while it lasted 5 min. Sometimes used it on priests during long fights to cut their mana pool and regen.
