Unboxing New Hampshire: What It's Like Living In New Hampshire

- Does everyone in New Hampshire hate people from Massachusetts?
Is everyone in New Hampshire a libertarian?
And is everyone here white?
We’ll answer those questions and talk about a lot more! So let’s hop in the car - but we don’t have to wear our belts! Cause we’re drive through and Unbox the state of New Hampshire!
Okay so this looks pretty charming. A neat little town tucked away into the forests. The kind of place where they know your coffee order by heart, and where you can probably get all the local gossip from the maple syrup guy. This is the REAL America, mister. Before it got all screwed up. Of course, nowhere is perfect, and we’ll get to that, too.
New Hampshire sure doesn’t look like much, but it’s actually the 42nd most populous state. There’s actually big cities and stuff to do. I mean, it’s not ALL plaid flannel jacket wearing crotchety gun loving forest dwellers.
It’s beautiful. It’s safe. Kinda boring and very independent. To get a well-rounded view of this state, we need to look at the whole place and then visit each different area. Then we’ll know what New Hampshire is REALLY like.
This is New Hampshire. As you can see, most of the state is heavily forested with small towns scattered throughout, and most of the population and entertainment is on the southern end of the state. But we’re going to begin up here first. Northern New Hampshire is kinda like Alabama with snow.

It is! You are awesome!
I watched your entire playlist on unboxing states.
Here are my 3 most favorite states.
1.Delaware.
2.Texas.
3.Florida.
The best part about NH aside from the fact that every single town has a state run liquor store is the “Live Free or Die” motto. It’s just objectively more badass than every other state motto.
💯
If only the actual legislature followed this 😅
And it's on all the license plates. Nothing cooler than that.
Did you ever hear the George Carlin skit on state mottos? He said that he would never live in a state where they talk about death on the license plate...LOL
The one complaint I always had with NH liquor stores, the worst hours ever. Some locations close at 8 or 9pm, many others at like 5 or 6pm. Seriously, same hours guys for all locations and it shouldn't close that early. But at least I can get beer and wine anywhere.
Important to note: “Rough, run down and drug riddled” in NH is still not that bad compared to other areas in the country you would use those labels on.
As a NH resident I can attest to this. I'm a 5 foot tall smol girl and feel safe walking through those areas alone at night.
Bingo. That was an exaggeration.
It’s because everyone is doped up on heroin as opposed to meth or crack, so instead of terrorizing the city the junkies are sleeping 🤣
Agreed
@@Bob-vp3dc Speaking straight facts. Lol!
I have family ties to New Hampshire, and am considering leaving FL. I don't mind snow, cold, mountains, trees, and freedom. As much as I love FL, I love the thought of a crisp, autumn chill, clear, bright skies, and a people around me that distrust the government as much as I do.
Great video.
exactly! 4 seasons- hot in the summer and cold in the winter- the cold keeps the bugs to a minimum ;)
Dude you have Ron Desantis relax
@@garycolonna470 Florida sucks, dude.
I moved there from Florida, Clearwater area, in 2002. Adjusting to the winter was rough but NH has its good points. Didn’t hate it but by 2015 I was ready to move back down South. Where I live in NC is kind of like a good medium between the two. Easy winters but still seasons and not as crazy overpopulated as Florida. Have both beaches and mountains.
I've lived here for 26 years and honestly, I can't see myself ever leaving. I love New Hampshire.

‘They have a healthy distrust in the government’ I like that
Lol its true. I know democrats, republicans and independents. Everyone has a good healthy dose of distaste and distrust of government in general. Our state motto is legit "Live Free or Die" 😆
Good thinking.
Many of us do. There has been an influx from Mass. so more and more people are beginning to really like government. I am not one.
Actually the state government is solid red.
I have lived in NH for 26 years and this is completely true.
Honorable mention not discussed: gigantic state run liquor stores at truck stops off the highways
State monopolized alcohism
Hookset truckstop
Ya we need to also open up state run dispensaries . But Feds yaknow
@@graves5696 I 100 percent agree

70 years old and I’ve lived here all but the first two years of my life. I’ll never understand why people move here from ‘away’ and immediately want to make our state just like the state they just left! Insane!
How do you feel about the free state project?
That is ridiculous. People move there for freedom NOT to make it like the hell they left.
Spent a week in New Hamphire, it's beautiful in the summer. Watch out for potholes....
Also they don't seem to be F'ing around about the "live free or die" thing. It's refreshing

I remember my first time going to New Hampshire. We hit the state line and all I heard was the sound of all of the seatbelts coming undone and coiling back up. They looked at me weird since I didn't take mine off, and reminded me I didn't have to wear mine there. I told them that it was ok, if we got in an accident, I would just stay with the car and make sure everything was alright.

I have a friend that lives in Australia, he's a traveler.. Been everywhere. He reminded my son and I how lucky we are to wake up the beauty around us everyday. He said NH & VT are two of the most beautiful places he's ever been. With the humid summers, and frigid winters sometimes one forgets. If I had one complaint.. I'd say give me the winter wind in the summer please, someone got it backwards. And to the out of staters, you're not in Connecticut anymore.. You don't need to cut in front of us, it's an open road lol
New Hampshire is sounding pretty damn good to me.
Its not bad but be prepared to be snowed in 9 months of the year. And cost of living is high for low wages.
@@JesusChrist2000BC You're exaggerating on the snow. New Hampshire has a full four seasons, though yes Spring and Fall do feel short. Summer is hot and humid and last from May until September. Winter is cold and snowy and lasts from November to March. October is fall, April is spring.
@@markroy8342 Not exaggerating anything. I'm trying to prevent more people from moving here so people can actually afford to live and buy property.
@@JesusChrist2000BC it's a fine line. Yes we should want to preserve the beauty and culture of our state, but with no implants we'll end up like VT. Poor, no business, tourist economy. NH already relies too heavily on tourism IMO

@@WallSt101 yeah that’s true. Than again people in Alaska are allowed to drive cars with hole in the body, broken shocks, etc... I knew someone from Fairbanks and they could get away with almost anything up there
Try not paying your property taxes in NH, and the government will seize your property and sell it at the speed of sound. Even for $200.00. Told to me by a City Hall employee: "They do it all the time."
Well...I hiked the appalachian trail in 2021 and NH might have been the most masked-up state of the 14 I hiked thru. They seemed really happy to do as the government said.
The biggest problem with NH is that particularly south of the notches it is getting too expensive for working people to live to not become impoverished. Housing costs are the biggest problem. Good job, Nick of balancing out the pros and cons of living here.
Yeah property tax and regulation on real estate are the biggest factors driving people out of the state. You can't keep young people here. I'd rather have a sales tax and do away with continuous property tax than people having to pay $5k a year on a home they already bought.
There should be a way for older people to exempt themselves from property taxes, but the taxes are low compared to states with many tax streams, because when you have 1 tax you pay attention to it. It's also a tax that is more or less depending on what your local government is doing, which you have more control over than state level taxation. And, everyone pays it, renters, home owners, and businesses.
People are getting poorer too
@@brittanybanks1370 u taggin the same tom im thinikn bout?

Yeah, like 3-4
Yeah but unless you live closer to one of those other beaches, you say "I'm going to the beach today" and people think Hampton

I live in NH! 'Trashua' specifically. Although that only really describes the downtown portion of Nashua. Much of the rest of the city is very quaint and suburban. For three summers now I have been trying to buy a house in southern NH, but the real estate is becoming a crises here for first time home buyers. I can afford up to $350K, but every single house I bid on I am outbid and I lose even if I waive inspection (because everyone is doing that right now). A ton of people are coming to NH, and no one is leaving, driving the prices through the roof.
Hoping I get lucky this summer and can snag a house somewhere in Merrimack, Londonderry, Hudson, Litchfield, Nashua. Then get a vacation lake house in the much cheaper VT lol.
I'm in the same boat! Keeping our hopes up for Spring inventory. Best of luck!

Live Free or Die!!!!!!! I miss NH, I lived up that way a few different times in the early 2000s. 6 months in a tent on the side of a mountain. 3 months on my sister's couch. So on and so forth. Mt. Washington is dope, I climbed up to the top with my brother and when my son is a little bit older we will be doing that
I lived in Nashua, NH for 2 years. Yes the tree streets have their challenges, but having moved from La, it was a very quaint and charming place. NH is a very special place.
They don't call it Trashua for nothing.
@@sullivanbiddle9979 They don't called that at all.
@@kindnessfirst9670 Yes they do. They call it Trashua and Nashganistan. It's a shit hole.
Thank you so much for that video! The map is genius
Awesome video!
I've never been to NH and I doubt I ever will. I learned a bit from your video.
I am and old “Masshole” in remission. Went to UNH in the 80s and have been living here most of my adult life. This funny piece was VERY accurate!
You did a really nice job with this video, Nick. Anthony and Chase sure know their state well! Also, nice touch with the Heathcliff theme song. I'm glad you mentioned Mount Washington. The train ride to the top is half the fun! I do wish you had said something about the state liquor and wine outlets, as they are one of New Hampshire's quirks. I can't help but agree with you about people from New Hampshire's making a lot of sense politically. Two of my favorite presidential candidates in recent years have been Ron Paul and Tulsi Gabbard--both of whom were very popular in New Hampshire.
Yay Matt! Good choices.
I grew up in NH and it is great. Loved the song at the end.
Hey Tim!
