Winsor & Newton for us Europeans, nothing can beat it! ❤ Love your landscapes, Sketches and your videos are always so informative, in just 10 minutes I learn more than in a entire day at a conference or a class 😂❤ LOVE the fugitives, I have them too, so what?? For just sketching, come on, they are delicious.

“So clearly FUGITIVE!” 😂 Perfect way to describe that Magenta. Winsor & Newton is, hands-down, my favorite gouache brand but they are so expensive in the US 😢. To add insult to injury,Jackson’s Art increased the prices for W&N products for US buyers. I’m so sad, but I also like DaVinci gouache, which the most economical of all brands and especially in the US. So, as I use up my Winsor & Newton stash, I’m going to replace them with DaVinci. They don’t have a huge range but, as an example, a 37ml tube of Titanium White is about $7 USD, and the quality is stellar! I love W&N but they don’t love my wallet, so I’ll adjust.

    Great video demo.
I used Winsor & Newton in college for textile and surface pattern design and I loved it. Such beautiful quality paint. Dried so flat and clean.
I haven't used gouache in a long time as I now do acrylic paintings on canvas.
But recently I wanted to start painting with gouache again so I bought a 12 pack Essential Set of 'Liquitex Professional' online.
When they arrived and I opened the pack I discovered that they are not true gouache at all as the wording on the pack said "Acrylic Gouache'. I was quite disappointed. I hadn't really focused on the image of the pack online as the large heading stood out more where it just said 'Liquitex Professional Gouache'. (I'm kicking myself 😢)
Well, I tried them out anyway painting little swatches of each colour in my art notebook to test their opacity, coverage, etc. Only 3 in the pack were actually opaque despite the bottles advising that 10 are opaque. I found the coverage not at all to be as good as the Winsor & Newton that I remember.
In my opinion they are just 'Poster Paints.'
Definitely Winsor & Newton gouache is my favourite too.
Love your doodles, by the way. And such a lovely floral pattern and beautiful landscapes too.
    Greetings from Galway. ☘🙂

I loved this video! So much of what you said about setting up a palette of colours resonated with me. I always swatch everything too and fill in the pigment details (because I'm a complete geek about stuff like that 😊). It's easy to get carried away with picking colours just because they look so pretty, then finding out you can mix most if you choose your primaries carefully, as you have done here. As for the difference of zinc white to permanent white - I learned in a recent gouache course I've taken (Vicki McGrath on Domestika) that zinc white is the mixing colour for the early thinner washes in a painting and the permanent white for the last, more opaque layers. This makes sense as it is brighter and more opaque. So I hope that helps! I've only really used W&N and Arteza traditional gouache. I'm in the UK, so its easier and more affordable to get than other brands.

Such a fun video. I also really like winsor and newton gouache (not a huge fan of its watercolors tho)...anyway thank you for making this, such helpful for people interested in winsor and newton gouache and need a little help getting started.
*PS. So this was probably just a slip up on words but just in case you are mixed up: Ultramarine Blue PB29 is a WARM blue...So in a regular split primary palette Ultramarine blue PB29 would be the warm blue....Then a green leaning blue like Phthalo blue (gs) PB15:3 would be your cool blue. The best way to remember if your blues are warm or cool is this: Blues that lean 'purple are warm'...and...Blues that lean 'green are cool'. Again, I'm sure you already know obviously, but in this video you mentioned that your Ultramarine Blue is the cool blue in your palette because its purplish (I can't remember the exact words but it was something along those lines). So yeah I'm sure it was just a mix up on words but I just wanted to make sure you knew just in case..lol Sorry about the unsolicited advice lol. Anyway I'm gonna press play and finish your video now. Im enjoying it very much, thank you for sharing and much love 💜

Great video! I love the price / fugitive swatch chart!!
I wish W&N were an affordable option in Canada, or that Jackson’s was allowed to ship it to Canada. It’s very expensive here. My local store only has the 6-tube intro set and perhaps 6-8 open stock colour options. For some reason, it’s much easier to buy Maimeri gouache here and I can order Holbein sets online. I did manage to find the 10-tube W&N set on Amazon a couple of months ago, so I do have that! So right now, I have a mixture of tubes from W&N, Maimeri, Holbein and Schmincke… but no clear favourites yet since I haven’t used them enough. That’s my goal for 2023… more gouache practice!

Have you tried Winsor & Newton’s blending medium in your Prussian Blue? I’m trying it out in my airtight palette and so far it’s helping.
